Describe Your Ideal Writer?

Ladies and Gentlemen; Describe your ideal writer?

Mine: about 5ft 8, female, curvacious with blue eyes and a cute smile...

But seriously, which qualities would you love to find in a writer? For me, the description would be: affordable, quality content, fast delivery.

Opinions please! xx

As a professional writer my reply would likely be prejudiced. I am afraid that I must refrain from commenting (even though that is exactly what I am doing) and have myself withdrawn from this test.

On the other side of the coin, a buyer who was willing to give clear explanations of the content they want, what its purpose will be (as writing styles should greatly vary depending on the use of the materials written) and when it needs to be done ... and does not ever ask anybody to re-write their old PLR rehashed garbage ... but that is a personal prejudice as well.

Whereas I look for a writer that takes my explanations and guidelines seriously and follows them, is careful about the actual message of the article and not the length, and doesn't give me the same generic info-dump that I would have gotten had I explained nothing.

Watch out, we might be doing business soon

PS My wife is about 5'8", curvaceous but with black hair and brown eyes typical of the Filipinas. Funny thing is though, people see her and think I am a rich foreigner with a very young "trophy" wife when in fact according to many people here, she is far too old to be eligible for work LOL (She is 35 but I can't help it if she still looks great!) She may not be a writer but she is definitely a great inspiration.

ALSO, what I'm trying to find out is what are people looking for in a writing service? I realise writing your own content on a subject you're passionate about, is by and far the best way to go. HOWEVER, if you HAD TO employ a writer, what would you look for and why?

well, there are quite a few different specialties under the
umbrella of "writing", and I doubt many writers even have
the capacity to do them all well:

        -reporting journalism
        -editorial
        -criticism
        -essays
        -short fiction
        -novels
        -direct-response copywriting
        -technical writing
        -scientific writing
        -how-to books

..more too. These categories are just off the top of my head and
while it's tough to make a living writing short fiction all the other
forms are viable careers - and most competent writers can do
        several forms competently.

Copywriting itself, which you may be inquiring about, has several
        areas of specialization within it.

That doesn't tell you much I guess. I'd recommend you read some
of the books on freelance writing.

    You are your ideal writer.

If you outsource your writing it is just another job for someone.

The best writing comes from the heart, and readers pick up on that.

I am also a published author - best selling book on Amazon and book shops around the world - and write all my own IM material. Believe me your own writing is far more powerful than any outsourced writing.

If you are passionate about a subject - writing is easy and a pleasure - never a chore.

    Same for me.

A writer that can really understand what I want. Someone who can pick up my mind.

    bye

Someone who understands article marketing and is able to give you well written, cohesive articles surrounding a given keyword.

There are a lot of bottom feeders in this field of work, as we've discussed in other threads here. So just do your research and try some out.. choose the one you like working with the best.

Just a suggestion: anyone interested in writing for a living should really proof their posts here thoroughly. I've certainly been guilty myself of typos but some of the posts I've encountered on this forum are full of misspellings, grammatical errors and incorrect usage of "your" and "you're." I am a newbie myself, but when I see a poorly proofread post I am surprised. First impressions are made from these posts. Oh, and I'm not referring to any of the posts in this thread, just in the forum overall.

Depending which side of the fence you are looking at this. Affordable, that depends on the person doing the hiring. Many people will say that affordable is paying a few $$ for writing an article. Others find it is affordable to spend 4 or 5 figures for their writers to complete work.

When I was hired by a Publishing House to ghost write for them, I went through an intensive interview before being given the brief. They treated it exactly the same as any company who hired staff. This is something missing online by many people.

Too many people say, I need 20 articles written and I need them by tomorrow, I'll pay you xxx.

The best work is when you can talk to a person via email to find out what they want, and then to talk via skype to get even more information about their needs. Based on those, you can then create or suggest changes needed to their original brief.

Article writing is something many people here focus on, but there are many other opportunities for writers beyond that.

    Qualities of my ideal writer:

Pays attention to the purpose of the articles (sales, clicks, what?)
    Delivers on time
Writes in the style I prefer (mimicking my own)
Researches well, and from many different sources (reputable sources)
Knows what it means to produce original writing

I'm lucky to have found some writers who fit that mold

My ideal writer would be affordable, keep me informed on progress, meet deadlines (I don't mind things being late, as long as I'm told so in plenty of time).

In terms of ability, I like writers to be in tune with their audience. They would be able to 'talk' to the readers, and challenge them to use their mind!

I have outsourced writing numerous times and have not yet found a good fit for me, I always have to change things. It's a long term process though!

Please somebody who knows the rules of punctuation! All I see is the comma misused and overused. You don't need to use a comma after the first few words in a sentance. If you're going to take money from people to write articles you must know grammar as well as punctuation.

Well, sometimes you should use a comma within the first few words of a sentence

I know what you mean though :p

An article writer had this on her writing sample page: "Would you like to have your boss's job"?

I immediately clicked off her site.

If it was because of the way she handled the possessive case of 'boss,' you should know that's one of the more debated usages. If I recall correctly, Strunk and White calls for the 's regardless of whether the word itself ends in an 's.'

If it was quoted as you have it here, with the closing quote inside the question mark, that's an error, but not one I'd disqualify someone for. If you added the quotes yourself, you've got two errors in your objection.

Writer for what? A sales copy? Content?

    I'd like these qualities -

Proper research skills, so that I rest assured the writing is from a reliable source.
Good communication. I like to keep updated with the progress. Not a hindrance, but I think it's a good practice.
Deliver what is promised - If someone says 80 articles in 8 days, I'd take his word on that. He should provide me the articles on time, unless something drastic happened.

And of course... a good hold over grammar.

I'm a writer, so I'm biased, but if I were looking for someone to help me out, I would look for the following qualities:

    - Be on time with delivery unless there's a major emergency.
    - Be thorough with your writing and your research.
    - Be flexible and open to receiving suggestions.

Those are the biggest points I look for!
