craigslist question (re: flagging, etc.)...

Can anyone, for any reason (legit reason, or not), just go ahead and flag a post - then it gets removed, with no further discussion or wondering WHY it got flagged and/or if the post violated ANY CL rules?

If so, if I put up a post, can a competitor merely flag it so it gets removed, simply because he doesn't like the competition?

Does the flag lead to removal without any real CL oversight?

Is anyone at CL actually checking to see if flagged posts really do violate any CL rules? Or is it all just one big wild west free for all?

Please advise.

Thanks.

-- TW

PS: Seems like a competitor of mine is monitoring CL, and flagging my LEGIT posts ASAP. No way to know who it is. And no recourse to have CL check into it - it seems.

In my opinion the Craigslist Police are a bunch of spoiled brats that live in their parents basement and get off deleting ads for whatever reason they want. They think they are saving the internet.

With that said, I once ran an ad to pick up peoples unwanted car batteries that they might have in their garage. I am in upstate New York, but because it is illegal to transport batteries in California then my post was deleted. I went to their forum and that is the reason they gave. They think they are so smart.

So I ran another ad with the headline. "Will pick up your unwanted Car Energy Delivery System" and in the post I put a pic of the battery. The geniuses didn't figure it out

A bar of iron cost $5. Made into horseshoes, it's worth $12. Made into needles, it's worth $3500. Made into balance springs for watches, it's worth $300,000. Your value is determined by what you are able to make of yourself

      That's funny.

BTW, I used to live in Troy (near Albany) for many years. Anywhere near you?

Man you're not kidding. It literally has become a 3rd world country cesspool on CL. I'm trying like hell to sell a 1450 Garmin (Yeah, a real physical product) that's only 3 months old I don't use anymore, which I paid over $150 for.

Some of the replies I get are laughable. One loser emailed me stated I was trying to rip people off. I sent him the proof of website site where I purchased it from. To make matters better, I told him to get up off his fat lazy ass and get a job, and to mind his own F---ing business.

If you ever want to witness bottom dwelling ignorance, sell a "Legitimate" product on CL.

What's the point of having a sig if no one buys from you?

I've never placed an ad on CL. I've read a lot of posts about it and from them I find that flagging each others posts is what people do on CL.

A typical day in the life of a CL "advertiser" - Post an ad that probably violates CL TOS. Run around and flag all the other losers' ads that are posting the same thing. Re-post your ad because while you were flagging your competition, they were flagging you...

no acountibility, i tracked one of my competitors, over the past three years i logged everything , and sent it to all agencies from
    CSLB
    BBB
    Craigslist
Governer Jerry Brown him Self ( got in big 3o min long argument with his attorney, over all the laws that the guys was violating, and this state CA is full of a bunch of lazy state employes)
I got this guy to call me and make a death threat for crying out load, and sent it to everyone, they told me i needed his consent to record him, wtf is that about
i then informed them of a service i was using on the internet the let's me
foward a call From my main 619 area code to a # back east where those laws don't apply!!
only need a one person consent, and i gave it to the phone #'s operator at the initial setup
all state employess hate me when i tell them this, and i tell them i'm gonna call them every week until someone gets off there ass,
if you think i am bull shitting you guys
    check this file
    media fire . com download/opp282cdeq0tlxo/Exhibits.rar

Bottom line is , no one is going to do anything, until there are some laws made up against it,
cl was invented not to gets it hands dirty ,
they set it up as tho it is ran by the community
so there really is no responseability or acountibility
they don't care about some flagging crap , especially when they don't care about all those girls that have been kidnapped from there, all they have to do is notify police of any ips that seen the ads of the girls being kidnapped,
cl says they need a Court order
    wtf is that shit
girl could be dead and gone, and same for the killer,
all becauser they dont want to get there hands dirty
there is a name for it, but cant think of it off hand

CL has become useless. I've tried posting legit ads and they get flagged as spam every time. It's a closely guarded secret how many ppl have to flag a post for it to get removed, but it doesn't matter because there's flagging software that does it automatically. And the flagging forum ppl can go to to ask why their post got taken down is frequented by losers with too much time on their hands to nitpick every post and why it doesn't deserve to be on their beloved CL. Price too high? Flag it. Product not good enough? Flag it. Misspelled word? Flag it.

It's gotten really bad and CL hasn't done anything to stop it.

CL flagging comes from your competitors, most of the time. Know it is frustrating - I'd like to pinch their little-pointed-heads off too !

It is not about one person it is about many people flagging a spam post.

One person can not get your ad deleted if it is a legitimate guide.

However, if it is spam, they can.

Ive found flagging and removal to be pretty arbitrary on cl.

I've seen many posts that should be flagged stay up, and had some that are by and large legit and within the guidelines be removed.

Its kind of a gamble, but stay within the lines and more often than not you should be alright.

The truth of the matter is Craigslist users
    far outnumber Craigslist employees. Like
many other content sites, the moderation
is under the control of the site's community.

A raw deal, yes. But think about it from CL
perspective. Hey, I can't stand it myself so
    don't get me wrong.

I think in this case "hands free" also means "synapse fee."

Not really fair - imagine if kindle worked like that.
"Hey, there's a book that competes with my book - I think I'll just flag it, to make it disappear. There! Done + done!"
