Supersite Vs Authority Site?

I was wondering if there's any difference between a "supersite" and an "authority site"? I heard sites like "huffington post" and "drudge report" are called "supersites" and then I heard (maybe here in the WF) the name "authority site" thrown around.

Are they the same or are they different ?

That's a good question David and one that is possibly up for interpretation!

Personally I would call an Authority site one that is big in a niche whilst a super site is obviously still 'big' but covers a wider range of topics.

An authority site to me is something like the 'Mens Fitness' online mag whilst a super site is a company like Sears which sells pretty much anything.

    What do others think?

I believe I coined the term SuperSite.

A supersite is the dominant authority in the niche.

For example, in two years my site became the dominant authority in the dog niche.

And I have more to come.

An authority site gets great recognition from Google in terms of SEO.

      A SuperSite is beyond SEO.

We can rank for any term in our niche and get page one without any SEO.
