Hi guys

I am working out which CMS to go with, does anyone have any recommendations or know of any review sites that provides a comprehensive review of the differences/benefits of each product?

Thanks so much

For what it's worth, I am a big fan of Drupal and have used it for many sites, but for my new IM activity I choose WP as it seems to be the industry standard for IM and there are lots of resources and help available, e.g. here.

I'm not so familiar with Joomla.

    Good luck with your site.

I guess most votes will go for WordPress.

I have worked with other 2 platforms also but Wordpress had good community of developers and there are many plugins which make your tasks very easy

It's hard to recommend something without knowing a little more about your plans or needs.

For most of my online endeavors in the past I used GLFusion. I switched when they quit making timely updates and when support became unresponsive. That's one of the downfalls of free software - you can't really demand support. I don't fault them and would go back in a heartbeat if they got things together because it basically had most of what I needed and did things in a way that no one else did.

You can go to Open Source CMS Demos & Information - OpenSourceCMS and run demos on their servers to see what you like. I'd suggest playing around with those 3 demos if those are your 3 final options and seeing how it all fits into what you want to do.

I'd suggest first, though, you know what you need and any special requirements you have.

Wordpress is generally a blogging platform and drupal and joomla is more of a development platform. Layouts are different and the each serve different purposes other than being a CMS system.

Honestly if i had to choose a blogging platform word press vs blogger, i would definitely use blogger because it is allot easier by far from wordpress and has far less downtime than wordpress. However with blogger you do need to know how to code which is why i like it so much, basic HTML and CSS will suffice but understanding JS and JQuery will help. Wordpress it would be best to learn PHP, im personally not a fan of PHP i like the ASP.Net framework allot better because it is so much more dynamic than what PHP will ever accomplish. SO if your looking for a blogging platform use either wordpress or blogger; blogger is way easier but wordpress has more things you can plugin, so it can be allot funner for someone who wants quick fix methods BUT your code may not be semantic.

If your trying to develop a unique layout, drupal and joomla are definitely the best platforms to go for, really choosing one is based on preference..

Everything all depends on what your trying to do. If your not so creative go with a blogging platform, if you are go with a development platform. Everything is based on what you want to do and your preference of the model. But im assuming you just want something quick, blogger, if you want something easier wordpress.

I have built hundreds of sites, including HTML sites back in the day.

    Today, I rank this preference:

    1. WordPress.Probably the best overall CMS since version 2.8. Biggest developer community.

    2. Joomla. For extra heavy duty work. Used by thousands of governments, government agencies and businesses. Huge developer community.

    3. Drupal. "Also ran." Check the download stats and you see it is not all that popular and does not seem to be getting traction after a number of years. Comparatively small third-party developer community. Some people love it, but not that many.

IMO, you can't make a bad decision by going with WordPress. It is an excellent piece of software with the kinds of add-ons people want.

There seems to be a lot more Internet marketing tools and themes available for WordPress. Based on that reason alone, I recommend you go with that platform--custom coding everything can get real expensive and cause a lot more headaches.

I started with Wordpress and it is by far the easiest to work with. It has a huge developer base and tons of plugins and I think it is about 17% of the worlds websites run on wordpress (no citation to back up).

Joomla, I tried to play with and just couldn't get my head around it. I have also had to fix more sites that have been hacked in Joomla then I have for wordpress which really surprised me when I started seeing it.

Drupal, I have been playing with Drupal and I have been damn impressed so far. Some of the things that I had to buy expensive plugins for can be done with stock drupal modules. For example, creating membership sites can be done with shopping cart modules and permissions versus DAP which I use on my wordpress sites. While I always use shopping cart scripts I have been surprised the number of top brands that have used Drupal for e-commerce.

Many will disagree with my but the sense I got was.

Wordpress - easiest to use, but less flexibility.
Drupal - most flexibility and powerful (Governments use it as well as lots of porn sites)
Joomla - Not as easy as Wordpress or as powerful as drupal

I am starting to mess around with concrete 5 which seems to borrow lots from the CMS world and ease of use of wordpress with lots of pretty themes on Themeforest yet their development community tends to focus a lot more on paid modules/plugins versus Wordpress and Drupal.
