Copy of my credit card?

I approached a newspaper to run an ad. They don't have paypal option and hence they need me to pay throw credit card. I was planning to use the virtual credit card for the transaction. But they are also asking for a copy of my credit card.

That complicates things, coz I have to use my physical card then. How safe is this? Any advice??

    Suggest bank transfer or post office transfer for the cash. Even cash? If there aren't any alternatives, I would wonder why.

      If i were you, i really wouldn't give a copy of my credit card... Ask them if cash can work and if it doesn't, you might be looking for another newspaper...

      Sending cash is definitely better. But as you see, I don't live in US. hmmm. Probably I have to look for another newspaper then.

          It's a rather old fashioned request - but is your credit card a secret?

          Don't you hand it over when you buy something? As long as they want the copy of the front of it, don't see how that would be a problem. I wouldn't give a copy of the back side due to signature and 3 digit code there.

          They may be using outdated card processing equipment and use this feeble method to verify your name is on the account.
