Best free word processor / converting to pdf

I've been using wordpad to write my book, but there are things that I can't do, such as wrapping text around images.

And when I do a test conversion to pdf to see how it would look, I use PDF Converter - Convert to PDF Online Free

Some questions :

1) What is a good free word processor that I can download that is comparable to whatever is the standard?

2) When it comes to converting to pdf, can you convert any format to pdf, or only certain ones?

3) is PDF Converter - Convert to PDF Online Free good enough to convert to pdf?

I would suggest using Open Office at...

Apache OpenOffice - The Free and Open Productivity Suite

...to create your ebook pages and convert your ebook into a pdf file. It is free to download and use and functions very similar to Microsoft Word.

    Best regards,

I agree Apache Open Office is great. Google docs is also surprisingly good in terms of functionality.

Yes Openoffice is good. I downloaded it and although it's going to take me some getting used to, I like it. It's also got a wordcount and spellchecker. It's got everything I wanted, and it's a nice surprise to be able to convert to pdf. The word wrap is a bit fiddly but I'm getting the hang of it.

Why not use Microsoft Word instead of WordPad, if you have the
latest Windows 7 install you can convert to PDF form too
from micrososft word. If you don't have windows 7
    just use OpenOffice.

For saving webpages and other stuff as PDF I use BullZip PDF Printer, a virtual printer.

For converting documents to PDF I'll typically just use the inbuilt word processor function. Until recently that was OpenOffice or LibreOffice.

Now I'm on IBM Lotus Symphony which has this feature too. Symphony was IBM's free proprietary office suite, itself based on OpenOffice. Support/updates were recently discontinued, unfortunately. But I use it anyway because I'm a fickle son of a b*tch and prefer the interface, and like IBM in spite of some of the disturbing stuff I've read about the company.

    Hi,

I really like OpenOffice because its free and easy to use. It's open source software on the Internet. It's at openoffice.org .

Good luck with what ever you choose. I forgot to tell you about Kompozer. It's also free.

There's one thing that I'd really like to do, which is to embed videos into pdf. Is there a way to do that in Openoffice?

From time to time, openoffice completely breaks down and doesn't open files at all. It's so frustrating. I have to restart windows and this is totally unacceptable. It's a shame because it's otherwise a brilliant program.

Something like that is probably only going to be found in the new Adobe Acrobat which costs quite a lot of money

This is more than likely a problem with your computer or the install as I have run open office on 3 different computers and never had a single problem

Try Kingsoft Office. It has versions of all MS office products and the best part is that the user interface is almost identical to MS, although the older version (2003) of MS office. I've used it quite a bit and the word processor and spreadsheet work great.
