Weight loss forum too competitive market?

I own a great weight loss domain name with forum word in iit.
I was planning to launch a forum about diet, weight loss.... with it but looks like competition is high, also most revenues will come from affiliate ads or adsense.
I have zero knowledge on this topic but a forum is for others to make it live.

I heard many horror story about managing a forum like daily moderation, member approval, sites hacked...looks like there are more work than earnings and it's not worth. Since it's new a very few people will get onboard too.

So should I jump on this venture or not?

Your opinions thank you

Any forum that relies on its members to create content and move the ball forward will fail.

    Take this forum for example.

The owner of this forum posted several times a day, every day for at least 5 years, BEFORE the forum had enough momentum to keep rolling on its own.

The fact that you have zero knowledge on the topic is one of the biggest problems for your idea.

The number of competitors in a niche is not really the biggest issue, because great marketers know how to stand out in a crowd.

But, you have to have a forum that "creates interest" and "encourages return visits" from people who were just passing through when they found the forum.

Having the domain name is pointless, unless you know how to make it work and you are committed to your own success with that project.

Frankly, it doesn't appear to me that you have the commitment to make this one work, so my advice is to let the domain expire and move on to greener pastures.

if you can find a cost-effective way to band together several people in your industry, you may be a little pull it off.

Maybe you formed a contest where the person who lost the most weight got a full year of product X for free.

Maybe you could integrate your forum with some kind of software, like a free weight tracker or daily scheduler. The forum component is secondary, but fills a nice social desire and eventually builds upon itself with time to become a full-fledged forum.

        Forget about it, champ.

The weight loss niche isn't too competitive if you bring the right game. Lots of blogs, for example, have taken off because their owner has undertaken a fad diet and recorded every single result (inc lots of photos). That alone is not enough, either; the owner will have mixed it up extensively in their social community at a minimum for their traffic development.

But, y'know, if you're going into the niche as a 'marketer', then just forget about it. Although there are still lightly-tapped micro-niches you can slip into and outsource the hell out of, the future of successful IM, in my opinion, is going to be based on creating sites you can stand behind with pride.

Forums are only of the hardest things to monetize. Even if you did end up with a shighly successful forum it would likely take you years to get to that stage.

Much easier ways to make money.
