14k Email List, Where to Start?

I have a coupon site that we've built a list over time & make ok commissions on affiliate offers (coupons, promotions, etc.). But I'm looking to get a little more aggressive with our email list. I've been told over & over again that we should be making at least $1/subscriber/month, so I must be missing the boat somehow? Here are some things to consider:

1. This is a natural list, built up over the last 2 years. We email it daily right now with our existing posts using RSS to Email feature.

2. We're looking to promote similar type offers, but that have better earning options. It's not coming from the current coupons we're promoting & are looking for suggestions.

3. I want to keep my list, so won't push anything too hard in the beginning. I need to start with light offers & slowly work my way up.

4. What network would you suggest i start promoting offers from? Or where should I start?

Start dropping a small ad for an info product related to helping them save money at the bottom of each of your mailings.

You should be able to find some good offers on ClickBank or Udemy that might appeal to your audience.

You may also be able to locate a few "save money" offers from a Cost-Per-Action (CPA) network. You might be able to locate offers of this type at the aggregation sites such as OfferVault.com.

You don't have to force the offer. Just drop a compelling description of the product, and post a link. You can include this at the top, in the middle or at the bottom of your daily emails.

Instead of focusing on niche marketing, you could start marketing demographically...

Who is on your list? What other interests and needs do they have besides saving money?

Once you find that out, you are no longer locked into the world of only pushing coupons and 'save money' offers.

Thanks for all the feedback. From everything I heard I think it might be best to just start out by testing some offers with our existing email newsletter, to see what works?

With that in mind at what point would you consider doing a solo blast just for the Ad? If we're lightly promoting through our daily emails, would it ever really make sense to push in a solo? Or would some offers be worth testing out if we feel they would work?

In making this transition what is the risk in losing subscribers as we're sending them more offers? I'm ok losing a few, as long as the revenues are their to make up for it.

You would have to test solo's to your list, etc.

Everything should be tested, tracked and analyzed.

You are already mailing daily, yet until you test, you don't really know whether you should use top ads, middle ads, bottom ads or solo ads, or a mix of all of the above.

Jeff Walker mentioned that 80 or 90% of his net income actually comes from his own products, which is surprising because Walker heavily promotes affiliate products also. Goes to show you how valuable having your own products is both in terms of margins and increased conversion rate due to trust factors.

I would bet that Jeff Walker's personal products are higher priced, and therefore only needs to sell one to the affiliate's 20 products to make the same kind of money.

That´s a great list. You can send different squeeze pages products of different niches and you will see what people are interested in. It would take time to classify but then you can email them different products that are related to the niche they are interested in.

      Good luck!!!

The idea that you should be making $1 per subscriber per month sounds very unrealistic. I have lists of 50,000 people and I market to them fairly aggressively, and there's no way I'm pulling in $50,000 from those lists every month.

But, it all depends on the RELATIONSHIP you have with your list. If you make it a practice to share good information with them, and are careful about the products you recommend to them, then obviously your list is going to have a much higher value than a list of people who barely have any idea who you are, and are sick of receiving spammy offers from you.

Don't be misled by the "size" of anyone's list. It's the relationship they have with their list that counts. I've had blowhards tell me they have a list of 100,000+ subscribers, and when they promote my offers (which have been proven to convert well), their promotion bombs and they only sell a handful of copies. And I've had smart marketers with small lists do incredibly well with my offers.

I'd look at Clickbank for products to promote, and join a couple of the big CPA networks.

dont worry the $1 per sub is usually for those who have their own product. if you really want to start getting aggressive, can start offering solo ads for $0.60-$0.80 a click if your not in the mmo niche. you can join fb solo ad groups and mention your niche when you advertise your solo ad, it should stick out since everyone else is in the mmo niche. but if do go with the solo ad route you need to be adding more subscribers than your losing, since each solo ad you send will result in unsubs.

Start a free membership site and charge people $9.97 a month for an UPGRADED membership with exclusive access to the best of the best deals plus bonus offers that are not shared with standard members.

      Do the math.

Your email list is 14,000 active subscribers, right?

With just 1,000 upgraded members paying $9.97 per month that's $9,970 per month in your pocket.

....When you make your first $10K be sure to remember who gave you the idea

Based on building your list from a coupon site it seams like they probably like to get good deals on things.

A lot of CPA networks have offers like "Pay only $3.99 shipping for this $85 knife", "try this facewash for free for 1 month" etc. Those type of offers may be appealing to your list...and you get paid anytime they take the free trial, or in some cases just if they submit their email.

I have been using Max Bounty for a while and like what they have to offer.
