Is Blogger a good Affiliate Platform

Is setting up an affiliate website on Blogger as good as using Wordpress. Would be interested in the pros/cons

    No. It's not. Unless you're selling ice cream and lollipops you are sure to run afoul of their terms of service sooner or later. Do yourself a favor and get your own domain and hosting. That way you call the shots, not some giant conglomerate.

      This. I set up a few blogs with blogger and Wordpress but the platforms don't allow you to control every aspect of the blog. You don't get full control. There is also the chance that the company will delete your blog for some reason.

      Invest some money in hosting and Wordpress. You will have full control over your website and you will be free to market whatever you want.

    Blogger is more on the code side and does not have dynamic plug ins like wordpress. You basically use blogger if you want to through something unique up really quick, you would use wordpress i suppose if you want to establish something a little better - this is one reason why wordpress has so many plug ins.


    I dont know if wordpress has it's own syntax but blogger definitely does. I use blogger because using wordpress is useless, to many buttons, you dont need that much to throw up a quick website. Blogger is straight forward, wordpress you have to freaking study the dashboard.



    and dont listen to the guy above but you should get a domain and just redirect it, you dont need to buy hosting just use blogger hosting. So long as you dont expect to get as much and constant traffic like a blog, you should be cool.

    I started my blog on Blogger back in 2006, but quickly upgraded to Typepad, then Wordpress as it grew. For a jumping off point to get started, it's okay. But I wouldn't use it for much more than blogging. As others have said, violate their TOS and you're gone.

    If you can, invest some money in your own domain name, hosting and a good Wordpress theme. It'll look more professional and you won't be tied down to Blogger's arbitrary rules.

    Are you allowed to even use affiliate links in blogger...I have had a blog with them for over a year with only 2 affiliate links throughout my 25+ posts and haven't had a problem yet...Am I violating and TOS?

      I've always used affiliate links on the various blogs I started on Blogger. Never any problems. I think Blogger has integrated the Amazon affiliate program into their platform, making it easier for affiliates to put links.

        You can use affiliate links of approved programs only. I set up several Blogger blogs a few years ago. I read the TOS carefully. My stuff was well within their limits. Five weeks into it I got two of the blogs shut down. I emailed and asked why. They said I was in violation of their TOS. I asked them for specifics and they said, technically you're not in violation right now but you will be by the time we update our rules.

        Nice, huh? I invest a lot of time and energy in promoting these blogs and was starting to get traffic to them and had made a few sales. Then, WHAM! You're out of here! I wasn't selling anything illegal or offensive or black hat. They asked me to change the title of my blog and a few of the words in the content. But doing that would have killed everything. So I packed up my stuff, deleted all my Blogger accounts and went out and did it on my own.

        The point here is that if you're camping on someone else's property they make the rules. And what's cool today ain't necessarily gonna be cool tomorrow. In other words, don't turn over control of your stuff when it's so cheap and easy to control it yourself.

    Blogger is a great learning platform. You can use affiliate links. It is not a bad way to get started, but with the caveat that you should back everything up. More than 1 warrior has mentioned having their blog simply disappear.
    With the price of domains and hosting becoming so reasonable, it's really a no-brainer to set up your own site. That way you're in control and can choose your own domain and hosting service.
    5 years ago I'd so start with Blogger. Today I'm saying I wouldn't bother.

    WARNING!!!! Do not use Blogger Platform to promote affiliate offers.
    I learned the hard way. My 5 year old Blogger Blog was deleted
    because they said my blog was a spam website and was contrary to
    there user guidelines. All i did was to review IM products on that blog
    and i made some good money from that blog. Now my 5 years of work
    has gone down the drain. Use Wordpress instead on your own website.
    Blogger is owned by Google and gets high ranking for quality articles
    but the drawback is you do not have total control of what goes on
    your blog. With Wordpress you have total control and Wordpress
    Blogs are ranked high on Google too.

    At the end of the day - it's safer to go with self hosted platforms, this way you won't work at creating something that'll be wiped out in one of their cullings. Hosting can be cheap - when starting out shared hosting is dirt cheap.

    You don't want the hassle of either getting the site removed (they usually work on neg ratings - so many and you're out) or having to transfer everything once it takes off a bit.

    For beginners , Blogger is ideal for affiliate marketing. But you have to eventually level up to getting your own WP site for better control. Blogger is a free platform and you have to abide by their TOS. But it is also easier to rank higher in the SERPs compared to WP site, based on my experience. Up to now, some of my blogs in Blogger are giving me affiliate commissions even without updates and no backlinks. But some of my WP sites were not earning at all that I have to take them down.

    In short, use Blogger to reinforce your income. But don't rely on it as your main money site.

    I'd go with WordPress, just because if the site takes off it would be easier to update the site, add new features, and you'd have more control. If you just went with Blogger you'd have the hassle to switching over, which may lead to down-time and may even cost you a few readers. Pretty cheap to start a WordPress site and get hosting. Plus having your own site gives you more creditability, people will take you more seriously because you have your own site, and more control over SEO. Just my opinion.

    if you want to get sales so be professional and get your own hosting and domain because most of the traffic go with .com domain but if you still want to know which is best between blogger and wordpress the i refer you wordpress.Choice is yours!
