Is Internet Marketing Dead?

Hello,

I tried IM back in 2011, and was scammed total of $1700 from two guys.

1 is reputable, and after 2 weeks was almost uncontactable.. i dont want to rat him out, but am very very dissapointed.

I had tiny wins here and there, but not enough to make my investment back, so i gave up.

i am now back feeling refreshed in 2014, and was wondering if IM is still alive and well, and also wanting to find out how much the game has changed....

LOL I don't know why Smarta@@ comments like this make me laugh. Seriously laughed at the fact that someone would even ask that question at a forum where people go to make a living. But the reply is awesome.

As long as there is internet IM will survive ,I thought it was internet marketing you know "Internet " being the keyword and all.
And this is the most I laughed today.
This was the mother of all irony.
But I am sorry that you got scammed .
        Be careful next time.

First of all, welcome back to IM and it's good to see you want to have another go at it. Succeeding is about trial and error so when you find that sweet spot you'll be glad you took the plunge again!

Secondly, why on earth would you not want to rat this guy out? After being scammed out of $1,700 (or whatever the amount from that particular seller) i'd personally do everything in my power to warn others from making the same mistake!

What do you really mean by being scammed out of $1,700?

Does this mean that you paid for something that you didn't receive? Or did you quit too soon before making any money?

You can buy into any program but before you will be able to make money with it, you will need to learn how to market and promote it properly.

There are some great programs and systems out there today however I keep seeing the same thing happening over and over.

People get into and opportunity and then find out that it will take some work (on there part) and get out as fast as they get in.

It doesn't matter how good a system really is, if you don't follow the instructions on the box, you will not succeed.

    Oh,

And what a place to be asking this question. This forum is based on internet marketing.

    No it's not dead!

But also don't go spending $1,700 on paying some 'so-called' guru to teach you how to make money when chances are the only way they're making money is by charging people $1,700 to teach people to make money

There's plenty of free stuff here on the WF. Spend the $50 (ish) to gain access to the War Room and you'll gain access to THOUSANDS of useful guides/products that are often WSOs and paid products.

Just kidding, IM is very much alive, the only thing that has changed are some marketing techniques. That's all.

And really this isn't even true.

Drive traffic to an opt-in list. Sell stuff to the list.

That same model has worked since the 1990s!

Welcome back and wish you success this time.

In this IM everyone has been scammed and lost time or money. Without mistakes we can't learn. Even after we have learned again there is chance to be scammed. But yours was really lot at the very beginning. But believe me there are a lot more people that have spent a lot more than the amount you have spent. The only difference some of them have got the patience to continue in this industry. First of all you should understand how this IM works at all then you will know which one to purchase which not.
Before you pay for something make a research, search for reviews from other experienced people in order to make the level of being scammed at the lowest stage.

IM works, but only 2-3% succeed. This is because the rest doesn't have the patience to wait and gives up or only want things to get fast results or earn fast and become rich. This is the reason why most don't succeed and a few succeed. This is the reason why I told you to first understand the main logic of IM and how it works, then ask yourself the question can you be in this 2-3%.

    I've also PM you.

The key to not get scammed is research, research, research... and you are in the best hands here on the WF!

So many people here have been stung in the past. My advice would be have a search of the forum and see what people are seeing success with. If you do find something that looks interesting ask for peoples experience - That said you will always find someone with a negative experience of any business - so gauge the responses and take some with a pinch of salt!!

Good luck in your endeavours - Hope you prosper in 2014

    Internet marketing will never die.

Why would you say that? You probably think that it is very saturated which it is not because THOUSANDS of people who are new to the internet go online EACH day and looking for some sort of a home based business.

If you learn how to do things right, you will succeed.

So many people can't wrap their heads around "Global Marketplace" so they assume the numbers are around the same as within their small town or city. They simply cannot compute the numbers, potential and opportunity to think even remotely out of the box for just a minute.

I get what you mean BUT......

Each day, thousands of people come online to....

      Lose weight
      Learn to trade forex
Learn to buy a car safely (get a deal)
      Learn to train a pet
Learn to be rid of acne
Learn advice on raising a troubled or difficult child
      Learn to cook
      Learn to save energy
And YES..... learn to make money from home.

It is a common misconception in this market that "Internet marketing" means "selling how to make money" products.

That's not true - "Internet marketing" is selling products to a market, using the web as a means to reach them. Nothing more.

2008 2009 I started and bought into a lot of 47,70, 100 dollar programs that didn't really teach much and made the marketer a lot of money. I feel they were scammy products and then I didn't know any better. Been out of IM until July of 2013. I have learned more in the past few months by buying some low cost WSO's from reputable marketers who know what they are talking about than I learned from those products back then.

    Is I.M. DEAD?

Just have a look around and you'll soon see that it's still very much alive
    and kicking.

It can stay alive for as long as you want it to by building a list and building
long lasting relationships with that list.

Once you have someone on your email list it's then down to that marketer
to build up trust by giving value first, then having a repeat back end sales
system in place that allows their subscribers to grow, learn and get results.

Of course if you don't have a line of products of your own you can always
    start out as an affiliate.

You'll be able to get yourself on the first rung of the ladder so to speak and
    gain some experience.

But I always tell my readers that they're always going to be miles better off
in the future by creating their own products and services.

You get to keep all of the profits, build your buyers list and of course build
an army of affiliates along the way too.

So my advice would be to build your own list first and learn how to build
an effective sales funnel that allows your business to grow as you add more
    leads into your funnel.

    Regards
    Gavin

the wf threads here are priceless, worth more than any 1997 or whatever priced item, if i had a family member just getting into im i'd have them spend a week reading through the WF for the world's best IM education.

as far as gurus go, it's best to simply Watch How they do it and copy their business models, after careful study. watch learn and copy.. maybe look up youtube videos from many gurus to see their content, their 4-video sequences; it's very challenging and no single course is enough anyways, just watch and learn, then apply

Whether you choose to, sell on ebay, create an info product, become an affiliate, build and sell websites, ect ect ....and just make $1, that's enough proof to your self that internet marketing is not dead. If you can make $1 online, you can make $2, if you can make $2, you know its possible to make $3..

....and so on. Don't give up this time, take action!

    Hi,

Sorry to hear you got scammed...but at least you learned a lesson.

IM is certainly not dead...its probably a whole lot more competitive than it was a few years ago, but certainly not dead.

It depends on how you approach it.. Look at different forums & find out what problems people are experiencing...then build your product around solving those problems..

Also, don't neglect other non-IM niches as there are still loads of low competition niches topics where you can make money. I actually started out in the Decoupage niche 5 years ago and made a killing!

In my opinion, the key is to learn (there is tons of great info on this forum, both free and from some quality WSOs) and then to take action. Make a real plan and stick to it.

Too often, people give up quickly when the realize that there isn't a "magic button" and that most solid methods do in fact take time and effort.

IM is far from dead. New methods, new opportunities, and new income sources appear all the time. I'm not saying you should go with the latest shiny object, I'm saying that IM is constantly growing... not dying.

No internet marketing is not "dead" in fact it is far from "dead"

You have just gone through many challenges along the way, and you got discouraged.

However! You should just use those obstacles as lessons learned and keep moving forward.

The only thing that is dead about internet marketing is your mindset on it.

I personally recommend to learn on a few skills and be actionable upon it each and every day.

    Remember: No Action, No Results!

Procrastination, battling personal problems, etc. Yes the course I signed up for was a bit pricey, but I feel this is my last shot at trying to make money online so I took the plunge. So far, some methods are unique while others are standard fare. The difference is my teacher is kind, patient and says that she will offer help and guidance for as long as I ask for it. I would title this "The More Things Change The More They Stay The Same". As much as everyone want to talk about how everything has changed, google, social media, video etc. etc. the truth is the basics are still the same. Do some research, find a niche with lots of buyers, get your message in front of them. It really is that simple, and at the same time that complicated. But really keep the basic business premise of trying to fill the needs for someone and you will do fine.

Kidding aside, sorry you got scammed. Sucks but it happens. Doesn't mean Internet marketing is dead though.

It's alive and well though sometimes things CHANGE, like new methods, platforms and such. Same can be said about methods, platforms and what not, going out of style, too.

Keep abreast of what methods are being used with success and you'll find IM is alive and well.

Don't keep up with what's working and well, yes, IM would be dead TO YOU... because your METHOD is dead.

As an example, way back in 1997 when I was "a baby marketer" it was sort of a "thing" to use FFA link pages. Any old timers remember those?

If I were doing that today, I'd be, well... DEAD.

And then there's the "time tested" methods that have withstood the test of time and were used in 1997 and are still being used today... solo ads being an example of such a method.

I quoted this part of your message because I implore you to examine those and look for scale ability. Success seldom happens by chance so look at those wins and ask yourself how to do it again, and with more frequency.

Well I made $9,100 last month from all my online ventures so its definitely not dead.

About $2,000 of that was from Clickbank then about $7000 from my local sites.

The real problem is IM just requires a very unique blend of different skillsets. Its like learning a trade. And many IM'rs come into this field thinking about making money. When the last thing on your mind should be money.

What should be on your mind is "how can I learn all those skillsets"?

Some of those basic skillsets include:

    Copywriting / conversion optimization
Web design / basic coding / how to outsource real technical stuff
How to do extensive keyword research and find niches
    How to monetize your properties
How to rank and get traffic
Various other forums of traffic generation

And I'll tell you for a fact, 90% of what you "learn" will be from real world experience. Not reading. Reading is good, but I'd guess it accounts for roughly 10-20% of entire the learning process. The other 80-90% being application. You have to take action. You have to test. And you need the ability to view this as a science. Don't take failure personal. Its just a part of learning the science. It took Thomas Edison 1,000 times just to get the lightbulb right. So don't expect money. Expect to take action and actually enjoy learning from all your tests. If you don't enjoy marketing. If you don't genuinely enjoy it, I don't think you'll ever make money.
