Best way to present a proposal to investors?

What is essentially the best way to present a proposal over to an Angel Investor or Venture Capitalist? My website is going live, and I already have been in touch with a few folks in the industry who are powerful decision makers that could help greatly.

Reaching out to these folks a few months ago during development stages has really helped me build that relationship I was looking for. Now that I'm ready, I'm looking for the best way to present.

Before I start sending out emails and getting in touch with people I have read about the best way to put a proposal together, however doing research online to help me build and work with a template I have found nothing but online platforms to use to present.

So my question is nowadays what is an acceptable form to present a proposal? Is having a digital one more helpful say then creating one in PDF or Word?

If so, what would be some options or software you would suggest to look into?

    I say a video should make the best presentation and will get you the best results (that if you present it online), without contact with your investors. I understand that you want to present a website, so a capture screen software with your voice should do the trick.

    The best way to present is in person. Invite them to a nice dinner and let them know you're going to present your proposal with desert. Then make it simple using this formula:

    1. What's in it for them
    2. What's in it for you
    3. How much does it cost
    4. When do they get paid

    I agree - in person is best. However, if that's not realistic, then shoot a video of yourself outlining the benefits to them, the profit potential and sales targets. Potential investors need to see a face. And in this day and age, if that face is only available via video that's totally cool.
    Alternatively, if possible, set up a video conference where you can present and handle Q&A.

    Agreed. In person is by far the best option. You're selling yourself as much as you're selling your idea/business.

    If that's not possible, I agree with creating a video presentation and making yourself available via Skype to answer questions. But, I'd have a real hard time investing money in someone that I've never met personally.

    Has to be in person and you better know your financials. If nothing else watch Shark Tank and you will actually get some good tips. As much as that show drives me crazy the "investors" there do always come back to what they think the bottom line is for them and how quickly they can get their money back.

    If you are good at 'selling' face to face and you are 'confident' enough, then do that.

    If you are confident but would rather not sell personally or 'present, then do a video.

    If you are not comfortable with presenting personally or even doing a video, then the power point option may be a better fit.

    It all depends on how you feel about this.

    There is no one size fits all in presenting.

      All my investors are in the city I live in, I'm not reaching out to anyone else because my business is focused towards the city itself. I met with them in the past briefly to discuss as whether my idea is doable in a sense of demand and needs. When I met them before, it was a pleasurable experience so I kept their information to contact them once I completed everything. In fact they're waiting to hear back from me.

      Now that I completed everything, I'll be reaching out to see them in person. I'm an extremely confident person, I know my numbers and how I want to report.

      My question specifically is, how should I create my proposal?

      In the past I've used business plan pro to help me create my business plan. Now I'm looking for a way to use some sort of "Framework" to help me develop my proposal. Going online, I didn't necessarily find any software to download but rather platform online software to subscribe and use.

      So it brings a question to mind, are online presentations the best way to go or is the old fashioned print out just as acceptable? When meeting face to face. I want to come off as tech savvy but not lose that personal touch.

          Yep. Forget all the long sales copy suggestions that talk about "benefits". When dealing with CEO-types they want to know two basic things:

          How much will it cost?
          How much will they make?

          Your numbers need to be correct, proven and make sense/cents.

    Unless your skilled with Powerpoint, I'd go with a printed version. Too many things can go wrong with tech.

    However, if you are good with Powerpoint, I'd do both. Powerpoint 2010 and 2013 can export as a PDF and as a video, so you have a backup plan. You can upload the video to Youtube, just in case, as well as have a hard copy you can leave with your potential partners.
