FREE Traffic Techniques for Everyone to Use!

I know most of you struggle with traffic, I wanted to post this here.

I just want to make it perfectly clear - IF you do not have a follow up system in place, half decent sales copy, and a half decent offer to promote, you are just spinning your wheels using any of these tips. So please - horse before cart.

Now, I'm not going to delve too deep into any of these tips, simply because if I gave you all of the tools I use the competition would get too fierce and none of us would make any money at all. BUT - I am going to give you enough to get started using the tactics I am using right now, so you can get half-decent traffic coming in with a little bit of elbow grease and some research.

So here we go.

Step One, you need to get yourself a landing page. To heck with those templated squeeze pages and all of that junk, go find yourself a Wordpress template that is super simple, open it up in an HTML editor, and strip everything - and I mean EVERYTHING but the main post page away. Gone. No header, no menus, no links, no commenting, nothing. Not even the titles for your posts - JUST the post text, and a half decent looking background.

If you want to skip this step, there are commercial Wordpress templates available that already do this, but you absolutely have to make sure that A) you're using Wordpress as a platform and B) you've stripped away every possible distraction from your message.

You MUST use an SEO plugin for wordpress, otherwise you'll be losing out on valuable traffic here. Do your homework, find one you like, and install it now before moving on.

Step Two, write a free report detailing something related to your product, and make it sell. It takes a bit of talent, some time, and dedication to do this - BUT with some work, your free report will be fantastic. Don't outsource this to a content writer, under any circumstances. And if you do choose to outsource this step, use a content writer first, and then hire a copywriter to make the content sell. Most copywriters won't write a free report for you, but they will edit it so that it presells your product. Or you can do it yourself. Either way, you want a content rich free report that presells your product.

Step Three - get your free report online, and setup your autoresponder to capture names on your new wordpress landing page and send them your new free report. You can also setup the rest of your autoresponder sequence now, so that when people start subscribing you're not scrambling to get follow up messages to them that lead back to your paid offer. This even works for CPA offers, just skip the free report - but collect their email for access to a free whatever the CPA person is offering, then have the autoresponder direct them back again and again.

Don't skimp out on content for your autoresponder. It is not your automated salesman, it is a content delivery service and should be treated as such. Just make sure that your content leads back to your primary offer as a helpful suggestion.

Step Four - okay, now you should have a landing page done up using wordpress, a free report that presells your offer, an autoresponder that delivers the free report and sends people back to your offer. What's next? Research. You want to take your primary niche and dig down, down, down... Take, for example, dog slippers. I love that example. So we have slippers for dogs, that is pretty niche. But is it far enough? No way!

If you go to Google's keyword suggestion tool, you see that "dog slippers" gets 6600 searches per month - but a lot of competition. But we also have "snoop dog slippers" - 36 searches per month, "slippers with dog" 58 searches, "dog paw slippers" 91 - and every single one of these has less than low advertiser competition, 2 out of 3 have NONE.

Step Five - Now you have some search phrases that people are using. In this case, "snoop dog slippers", "slippers with dog", and "dog paw slippers". Now you want to plug each of those search phrases into Google, and see how many competing pages there are, and how relevant the advertisers are (if there are any). So for the keywords above, we have 77,000 pages and one relevant advertiser, 6 million + pages and dozens of advertisers, and 32,900 pages with 3 relevant advertisers, respectively. Because "snoop dog slippers" showed us that Snoop D-O-double G is bringing out his own line, and that isn't what we're targeting, the best keyword to work on right now is "dog paw slippers" - 91 searches per month, not a lot of organic search competition, and not a lot of relevant advertising.

Step Six - Use SEO firefox or whatever program you use to find out how many high PR backlinks the site that is number one for "dog paw slippers" has. You can see it is a PR3 page, no social bookmarking, and less than 4000 links. We can beat this - trust me.

Step Seven - Start writing 5 articles. Or outsource 5 articles. Or get 5 articles however it is you get 5 articles. But make them QUALITY (please, do not spread more crap content around the internet. it will bite you in the caboose.)

Step Eight - Start a free blogger blog, and put one of your articles up linking to a SECOND free blogger blog. Now put up a new article linking to your landing page.

Step Nine - Repeat the process above until you have 5 blogger blogs all pointing towards your landing page with quality content, and a link from an article on each blog pointing to the next blog your created. On the last blog, link to your landing page AND another web 2.0 property like squidoo, hub pages, etc.

Step Ten - Create some more content on web 2.0 properties and link them all together. Ping your blogs, hub pages, squidoo lenses, etc. using ping services like pingoat - as well as pinging your landing page.

Step Eleven - Do some social bookmarking for your blogs, your landing page, your lenses, etc.

Step Twelve - PING your social bookmarks.

Step Thirteen - use a series of high PR web 2.0 sites to link to your landing page and one of your blogs each time.

You'll now have a network of high ranking, relevant blogs and web 2.0 properties pointing towards your landing page, with a number of high PR links pointing to your landing page and your blogs. If the content is valuable, and the comments and things that you used to get your high PR backlinks are contributing something instead of just spamming, you WILL get traffic, and you WILL rank high in the search engines for these phrases. I guarantee it.

There are other more powerful strategies here, some of them maybe a little grey-hat that will amplify the effect of these strategies even more, but this is enough to get you started getting some real traffic to your site.

The key to making this work - do NOT use crap content, and do NOT spam web 2.0 properties. You'll get banned, your backlinks will disappear, no one will read your content, and you'll get exactly SQUAT for all of your hard work.

For the record, since I know I'll probably get a backlash of some sort from this post, here is some clarification on a few things...

ONE - Yes, I have actually used this, and yes, it actually works. Want proof? My bcwebmedia blog was a PR 0 on Tuesday. I implemented just two of these strategies, it is now a PR 1 and rising. It took two days for Google to up my page rank, and an hour to do the work to make it happen. This stuff WORKS.

TWO - No, this is not everything I use. Nor is it content from any product, mine or anyone elses, that I'm publishing here. This is a mixture of strategies I have learned over the years from different sources that I am publishing here for your use - nothing more, and nothing less.

THREE - No, I am not doing a WSO for this information to include the "top secret" other stuff I'm doing. This is not a promotional post. Almost everyone here struggles with traffic, and this will help.

I'm trying (possibly in vain) to turn this back into a sharing community where people HELP eachother, not just a community of people asking questions and getting flack from 200 post forum trolls "putting them in their place" while posting their own promotional crap in another thread.

I'm starting to think this place is going to hell in a handbasket real fast, and instead of just ranting about it like most people do, I'm attempting to DO something about it. Action breeds action.

and FOUR - DO NOT post an argument in this thread, not out of any kind of courtesy to me, but courtesy to those that might glean something from this info. This is here for the help of everyone, not intended to condescend, patronize, offend, or otherwise harm any other person, company, group, or thing in any way.

It is sad that I have to post that disclaimer here now, but for the good of the people who might actually learn something from this thread, if you disagree with me please take it up with me privately - not in this thread, so we don't lose the valuable information among the muck of arguments starting everywhere else on this board.

If you can give feedback without cursing me out, berating me, or attempting to argue with me, feel free to post it here - and of course, anyone who has tried this I'd love to hear your results!

Good luck!

- Cherilyn

    Thanks for sharing Cherilyn,

I used to make diagrams showing this exact sort of thing - I'm sure I've shared them in this forum a few times over the years - but it's simple and works so it's weird that people still need to be told and I thank you for taking the time to do it. So many new people join here all the time that someone is bound to 'get it' from reading your post.

Sometimes just finding it at the right time helps, too.

I'm truly sorry I missed your earlier posts about these techniques, Andy. It's one of the things that kind of bugs me about forums and blogs and Twitter in general - unless you catch the "flow" at a certain period in time, you're bound to miss some really good stuff, unless you're specifically looking for it, you know? Don't know how to fix that yet :-)

      Eh, that's another discussion...

  • dvduval - I can't give away too much here, because there are some fellow warriors who sell that kind of information and I wouldn't want to take any business away from them. But basically, you want to find forums, blogs, news sites, etc. with a high page rank that you can post a comment or a profile on, that allows DOFOLLOW links, then post something that actually contributes to the site. Don't post just your link, that's spammy and it is contributing to the downfall of man... Contribute something valuable, comment on the actual article (other than just "nice post!") and keep the conversation going. Ask a question, reply to someone elses question in the comments, or talk about your experience with the topic in question.

If you do want a short cut, I know some people who have used Angela's backlinks membership to do this - not too expensive, but a great resource from what I hear. I think she still has a WSO up but I'm not sure... (not affiliated with her in any way, for the record...)

A good article is something that contains real information, is written in readable English (try to make it American English... UK & Canadian buyers don't make up a majority of the internet buyers yet, and - no offense to my American friends here - some Americans will think you can't spell if you type "Centre" or "Favourite" or "colour". ), and it is written in a simple way that anyone could glean information from.

I tried to look for some bad articles but for some reason I could find any... Yet when I'm actually looking for info that is all I can find LOL

If you want examples of good articles, pick up a copy of a magazine. Write like that. Offer info, be helpful, and speak in clear, conversational English.

Despite the overwhelming number of people who can't seem to do that, it isn't that hard.

  • Andy yes I know you used to post this kind of stuff all the time It's pretty basic, and there are a lot of ways to make it work even harder - but anyone with a couple of hours to kill and a desire to succeed can start getting traffic this way. It isn't hard.

The bottom line of the whole thing really is, contribute something to the web as a whole and the money will follow. Quality contributions, spread in the right places, will get you boatloads of targeted traffic without having to baby sit it, like you do an adwords campaign.

Give first, thats all it really is.

Amen, Ken. So many people forget that part If you were to keep doing this for different keywords and target an affiliate program, you could easily replace your income from an average job - and sure, it is a lot less work than that job, and once you've set it up it doesn't take much to keep it going (a few regular posts on those blogs linking to eachother and some customer service, that's it) - but it still does take some work!

There's two ways to motivate people, I believe - the Tony Robbins style, where you talk with a lot of energy and flail your arms around and shout truisms and get people all riled up to take action - and the Brian Tracy style, where you simply give people a good, simple, actionable plan with clear steps that they can follow immediately and really see themselves succeeding.

Both are good and both work - and the first one is always the one that gathers the most feedback and thank you's - but personally for my money and my time I much prefer the second style, and this is exactly it. Thank you sir, this post should be stuck above all IMers' monitors.

    WF Noob tip:

Pay attention to the TG you are reading (Thread Gravity)

What is thread gravity? This is totally ARBITRARY (sorry, no ANSI standards here, folks) but:

    1. WHO started the thread?
    2. WHO came by the thread and contributed?
    3. HOW active is the thread (also, to a lesser extent, how fresh?)

    Look at post counts of the participants to help determine the TG {it's really tough to post a thousand (or 2k or 6k) posts on the WF without having at least some sort of clue what you are talking about}

Also (again, less important) JOIN DATES of thread participants - the "old timers" are pretty darn savvy here :-)

Example - Cherilyn (thread starter) is 2k+ , then at least TWO contributors are 5k+ and there are WF members participating dating back to 2003 join dates (as well as all years in between) a VERY HIGH TG, indeed!

What is thread gravity? This is totally ARBITRARY (sorry, no ANSI standards here, folks) but:

      1. WHO started the thread?
      2. WHO came by the thread and contributed?
      3. HOW active is the thread (also, to a lesser extent, how fresh?)

      Look at post counts of the participants to help determine the TG {it's really tough to post a thousand (or 2k or 6k) posts on the WF without having at least some sort of clue what you are talking about}

      What great idea Thread-Gravity is!

It would be great if the WF could use a similar formula and display the result next to the thread title. I am sure it would be of tremendous benefit to Warriors.

I understand that it probably won't happen, but still, I love the thinking - great idea

I was/am in the process for revamping one of my blogs. So this post gave me some good ideas.

I added a more minimal wp theme after reading this post this am, as I was too scared to clean one up. "Smile"

I would like a couple of folks to review it for me if you would.

Just pm and I will send out the link for an evaluation.

        Thanks

        Tina

        BTW: Great post!
