E-mail Marketing: Long but detailed or Short but direct?

I will be using e-mail marketing for the first time and I wonder which is better?

Long e-mail but detailed? Like Why did you e-mail them, What will you offer, showing them sample of your works, talking about yourself/company a bit and etc.

OR

Short but direct to the point? Like you tell right away what you're offering and show them how much will it cost. Because short but direct doesn't look like your typical spam e-mails right?

Any successful e-mail marketers here?

Short and direct to the point emails work well.
I don't think people have too much time to be reading too much in emails.

Don't only ask from successful email marketers................ Ask for readers opinions as well on what they like to read and as a reader myself I can say short and direct to the point emails are more interesting to me.

      Thank you for your response.

Do you think putting the price of how much will it cost them a good idea? or just direct them to your website?

Most of the time it works best if you get them to the web site as fast as possible.

        Definitely use a short email.

The price only makes sense if it is really "wow" something like usually $197, today $17 only can work but you have to test. Most of the time it works best to leave the price out.

I go with short, succinct, direct, to the point emails. Short attention spans these days.......anyone stopped reading this already.....

Give enough relevant detail with a link - if they want to click, they will.

    Depends.

If I want loads of clicks - I go with short emails

If I want to presell the click so that only qualified and interested person click - long email.

I use short copy for blog updates, solo ads, swap.

Longer copy for my own products/affiliate offers.

    Short email.

The whole point is driving traffic to your website.

    Do your pitching/offer there.

Short email is good. Straight to the point, readers can know quickly whether it is something that they are interested in. One point to note though, if the email is too short, some ESP e.g. getresponse may classify it more as a SPAM.

Short works best. Keep the link above the fold and tell people to click on it. The goal is to drive traffic.

It does not always have to be to a sales page either. I have had good results over the years getting traffic to a blog post in an email to my list. Just write a short snippet with a link to the post where they can read more.

Definitely Short and Direct. Most people in IM world literally get tons of emails everyday. There is no way that they can sit there and go through all of them.

Perhaps even more important with your email is the subject line. You literally get one small line to convince the subscriber to actually click on the email and open it up so this may be where you want to spend a considerable amount of time with your subject line.

I think everyone's jumping the gun telling you to write to short emails. It sounds like you'll be using solo ads or ad swaps, and they'd be right if that's the case, but if you're building your own list you need to consider longer emails. If you need to give your readers value, your emails need to be longer. If you want to get them to buy something, you need to presell effectively.

Sometimes you might just want to check in with a quick tip.

Bottom line: it depends on what you're trying to do and who you're dealing with.

I'm throwing my hat in for short and direct. I get too many emails to read everything. I usually end up skimming most emails. The best ones are short, direct and have the main points highlighted for easier skimming.

If you're not good at copy writing and capturing attention then short emails will have to do.

If' you're skilled at copy writing then longer emails will work best.
