VA vs Specific Outsourcing?

Hey all,
I have gathered that a lot of successful online business owners outsource some or even a majority of their work.

I have money to spend on outsourcing. I realize that for the most part, it takes money to make money.

My question is this:
When outsourcing jobs for my website, is it better to hire a virtual assistant to help with multiple aspects of a website? design, content, seo, etc...

Or hire specific people for the individual tasks?

Any advice and personal experiences would be awesome.

Thanks,
Josh

It greatly depends on the aspect. I hire freelancers all the time. Some are girl Fridays, do it and some are specialists.

I don't want my girl Friday tweaking my code in my website but she usually can do help desk, email marketing and some html.

A coder is a coder and a better specific coder is best. When you see there skills if they list about a dozen walk away. Look for someone specific in a few set of skills. If they tell you they can't do it thank them and feel lucky alot will tel yes and wing it. Always narrow down your target market for specifics.

The whole "walk away from someone with a dozen skills" thing makes a lot of sense. I've been studying a few aspects of the online world for a while now, and still don't consider myself "skilled" in any of them lol

Thank you for your reply, hustlinsmoke.

No problem. Better to spend more money and get pro's and specifics than let someone like me a jack of all trades do it lol.

I haven't commented on threads like this for years, but for some reason I feel motivated to do so so I hope you and others can benefit from my experience...

I've been outsourcing for 6 plus years and have had the same VA for the last 5 years so I've been around the block.

It's best to CENTRALIZE all duties into one person if possible (but not always).

This is the person responsible for completion and integration of all tasks related to the project.

The time that you would spend sewing together the different pieces from different people you hired to do the work for you could take an immense amount of time depending on the scope of the project.

You ideally want one person who could coordinate all incoming activities into one single flow like a conductor of an orchestra.

So the times that you do outsource he/she can take the other pieces and fit them in with the rest.

To hire someone like this is more costly per hour, but the extra flexibility to complete various tasks will be well worth it plus you'll get less headaches.

You should hire for specific tasks. If you want programmer or web design, don't hire a VA that specializes in organization or customer support. There will be frustration on both ends.

Thank you, Pai Mei, and benzwm02 for your answers. I think I may be able to "blend" both of your responses to my situation.

benzwm02- I think when it comes to the actual structure of the website, I would like to hire an individual website designer.. Someone who specializes in designing the "infrastructure" of websites. What good is a building if the foundation is weak?

Pai Mei- Once the foundation of the website is complete, hiring a dedicated and highly competent VA to assist in all day to day functions of the website seems the most logical thing. This allows for a closer business relationship and understanding. I like it.

    Thanks again,
    Josh

Simple solution Josh. Find a VA who is also competent at building even complex websites.

We just finished up another clients WP site and am about to start a new one for another client.

We build sites for people from time to time depending on how busy we are at the time.

I think the best solution is hire a Virtual Assistant but he/she must be in an Outsourcing company. In case of he/she has a difficulties with the work, another people in company will support him/her.
