Article Writing For Beginners?

Hey everyone,

I'm working on a lot of SEO campaigns, but that's the thing with SEO - it's time consuming and expensive.

I have great command over English. I've been writing since I was 16 and I can dish out very high quality articles with perfect grammar almost effortlessly. It's not my first language, but then again I have better English than most native English speakers (no braggadocio).

While my campaigns simmer in the pot, I'd like to take up article writing work that can bring me around $50 a day or so - not huge money, but enough to re-invest into SEO. I was wondering where I can get a stable number of articles to write everyday? I don't think too much about Fiverr and Freelance websites (saturated with writers, require heavy self-promotion), or iWriter ($2 for articles is frankly insulting).

Are there any content writing teams here that might take me on, or any other website that has a good influx of writing jobs that pay decent price? ($5+ for 350 words)

Thanks a million for your help!!

I'm not sure if what you're looking for is as easy to find as just asking a question... Most content writers I know who are making a steady income took the time and went through the process of building their own client list.

You may want to try out Elance.com or oDesk.com .

It's a good start for freelancers.

Thanks for your inputs. Do you know any content production teams that are willing to hire?

Yeah, it can be tough to get decent consistent writing gigs that pay well. As stated previously elance or oDesk are options. The jobs here won't pay super high but you probably can find some to get started.

If you really want to get higher paying consistent gigs, you would probably need to put together a portfolio of your writings which you could use to approach clients for more regular assignments.

Another place that is always looking for writers is About.com so just one more place you could try. Good luck.

If you are so good at English and writing, why not show some examples on freelance sites and charge a higher price for your services. If it were me, I would never hire a $5 article writer from Fiverr and would rather pay more for someone I know will deliver some quality, unique, SEO optimized, and fits in with the latest trends in my niche.

I guess I'll need to shed my ego and apply on Freelancer websites, although I'm not sure how seriously they will take someone who has 0 posts, 0 ratings and 0 reviews.

    Thanks for all your inputs!

Looks like you know something about SEO and you can write.

Why don't you find clients that need SEO articles?

You can start right here on WF in the warrior for hire section or you can search on
Craigslist (using SearchTempest) and find people that are looking for SEO content.

Great idea! I think I'll invest some time into drafting a nice thread on Warriors For Hire. I'm so grateful to this forum - all of you are so supportive! Thanks a million

I think you need to start slowly and build up. You will get a few 'licks' here and there but that the nature of things. Start out, not looking for much revenue but establishment and creating a clientele Do learn that article/content writing is not slanted the same way as journalistic writing. You need to get a bit of practice. This will not earn you much but the experience is awesome. Here is a site that buys and sells articles. Join it: Iwriter.com with Brad Callen. Clients come there knowing exactly what they want and they make their request. You will write and if they are satisfied you make a sale if not you are turned down. You will learn, build your stats and get rating. This will move you into a higher pay scale. Go there and see for yourself.

Your English is very good. I'm impressed. It's not often I come across a non-native speaker who writes as well as you do.

Anyways, I assure you that the freelancing sites, like Elance, Guru, etc, are not the black holes people make them out to be. I've been in this business over 6 years, and while I get clients from a variety of sources, Elance has always been my bread and butter.

You need a strategy though; placing five to 10 bids and then waiting for something to happen simply isn't going to cut it. I suggest you hunt down some quality books on the topic. I'm not sure what's out there but certainly they've got something on Amazon.

In fact, buy five books on the subject and read them all, taking notes as you go. If not more. This is the type of studying anyone should do when they're starting a new business in an industry they don't know.

Yet no one does this. It's no wonder why most people get crappy rates...

You might also considering contacting SEO companies and providing their content. Don't send them the typical page-long email selling yourself, though. Just drop them a friendly, informal message inquiring whether they work with freelancers. Short and to the point.

I also suggest you raise your rate expectations. With your writing skills, you can do a lot better than $5 per 350 words.

    Good luck.
