Need Advice on a Domain Name

Good question Arctic.

Why don't you forget about using your city in the name? After all, if all goes well you might end up expanding the business anyway!

Is Panda Property management or 'arctic' available? To me the important part of the domain name would include your service or product.

There are many ways of looking at this however. I had quite a time choosing my domain name, which although it was for a personal blog, some of the information might be relevant to you.

Knock the Arctic off and "PandaPropertyManagement.com" - Still a little too long?

Kind of think having "PropertyManagement" as a keyword would be beneficial

Property management mainly deals with people. I mean your customers are people.

Now, if your business has a long name that is "keyword rich" you communicate something to your customers that might not help your business:

"This is a company that tries to trick search engines to get more business" or something along those lines. This is not something that you want to have as your first impression.

Yes, if you would get tons of traffic from search engines would be nice but a nice name that is easy to remember and short will work better in the long run.

Maybe right now you do not have a lot of funds to get the business rolling. But maybe next week you somehow pull in your first client and things start rolling and things expand from there... A long and clumsy name might not be what you want then.

Almost always, the shorter the better if you can do it...

It's common to use - mgmt - as an abbreviation for management..

edinburghmgmt.com is taken, but edinburghmgmt.co.uk is available..

In addition - .uk - domains are going to be available for the first in the next couple months, and those with .co.uk domains will be offered the opportunity to register their .co.uk version as .uk before the general public.

So if that type of idea is of interest to you, then you might want to register a .co.uk version so you have first rights to the .uk domain.

Quite honestly, I think the ArcticPanda name is neat as heck.. I see U say you're the ceo.. arcticpanda.com is not even registered though.

I realize you have the .co.uk, but for $10 don't let someone else get the .com version, that's not a good idea..

The first thing I would do is register that if you're really serious about the name.

There is no rule that says the name of a company needs to literally reflect the actual business of the company..

Why not just use Artic Panda Ltd as the name of your company with a .com or .uk extension.

People are sure going to remember it and it's easy to type without spelling errors..

There's many other examples of that.. In addition your official company name could be Arctic Panda Property Management Ltd, so it's clear what you are really about.

Maybe you can use something that is specific to Scotland and just add the word "Management" to end

Really bad example would be NessiManagement.com but I think you get what I'm trying to say.

While brainstorming ideas I'd suggest using InstantDomainSearch.com so you can instantly know whether the domain is available or taken.

Unless you plan to manage properties in the arctic or in China I would not consider using ArcticPanda at all. The name should sound serious and professional above everything else. As long as you use "propertymanagement" in the name I would not worry about anything else as far as SEO.

You might see if EdinburghPropertyManagers is available. Since hummingbird Google does a lot more crossover of similar words. When I enter "property managers" every single site in the top ten is actually showing sites SEO'd for "property management".

Getting mixed messages here! haha Some of you say keep ArcticPanda, some say avoid it. Not quite sure what to do if I'm honest.

I'm leaning towards just having "ArcticPanda.com" and just doing some quality on-page SEO.

Looking into it, almost ALL the market leaders in my area are just basic names.

EG - "SplendidProperty.co.uk" "ClanGordon.co.uk"

Either way I now own ArcticPanda.com as well. It only cost me £2. So It's hardly a big hit

You should get your domain name same as your company name and give your website's title a keyword phrase related to your offer and target market. If you can get a domain name on your keyword its fine but if you want to build brand then domain name should be good to absorb, memorable, logical and moderate in length.

IMO it really doesn't matter anymore but if you are into opening a REAL business then make it catchy and easy to remember, perfectly with some name related to what you are doing but that's not a must.

ArcticPanda.com isn't a bad domain, just not relevant so you need a great USP for that people can remember you.

Would be a great domain for a HVAC comapny without a USP so as you are in another niche think to add some like...

"The Coolest Realtor Deals in Edinburgh" where your logo could be a Panda with a thumbs up or something like this.

You should have you official company name as your primary domain name, and then buy and link as many "search related" domains to your site as possible. You're killing 2 birds with one stone.
AND- don't waste a lot o time worrying about a name. If the product is good people won't care what it's called.

Just grab something that's "brandable". With due respect to your IM instincts, don't go for KW domains - they sound bad, look bad and also Google might just kick you off SERPs someday just because they want KW domains in the near future. So, think of a "cool" name instead

Where are you searching for your domains? Seems as if someone keeps a log of domains searched for and then poaches the good ones. NameSecure.com used to do this all the time.

Rule #1 when it comes to domains... If you think of an idea that MIGHT work, grab it. Certainly don't post it here...
