What's a good Wordpress sales page thingy?

I don't know much about plugins, but I've got a wordpress (.COM) account, and I'm working on my sales page, and I'd like to play around with the look of it.

Are there any good free wordpress plugins?

Also, what's a plugin and how do you use them?

It sounds like you have Wordpress at wordpress.com? I may be wrong but I don't think they allow plugins.

There are thousands of Wordpress plugins, both free and paid for, but they are for self-hosted Wordpress. So for them you would need your own hosting account and install Wordpress on that.

If I'm incorrect, I'm sure a Warrior or two will set the record straight!
In the meantime here are some plugins to look at - https://wordpress.org/plugins/

Thanks. Actually I think it's .com I've never understood the difference.

Well ok if wordpress.com doesn't allow plug ins, how would I actually create / present a sales page?

Well you don't need any plugins to create a sales page. Just pick a decent theme that you like the look of, add your copy and graphics, and you're done!

So I guess you don't really need anything fancy? What theme would you suggest, and where do I get graphics?

No, you don't need anything fancy. Well written copy with a good call to action is the main thing. Graphics can be outsourced if you're looking for something custom. Lots of freelance sites out there.

You can also buy royalty free stock photos. A google search will bring up a bunch of sites for that. Do reads the small print if you go that route.

Also, If you have a digital camera, you can always take your own pics.

Thanks. What about logos for a guarantee, and buy buttons and stuff like that? And boxes for text, etc, basically all the things that bring a sales page to life.

Just do a search for website graphic packages. You'll find plenty. Or just use Google Images.

There's a bunch of that stuff right here in the Warrior Special Offer forum. I'm not sure if I can link directly to one of the offers, but if you enter the following into google - "Brand New BIG Graphics Package - 30 modules + Warrior Forum" you'll get to one of the offers. You can search directly within the WSO forum for more.

The boxes are called Johnson boxes, named after Frank Johnson who is credited with having first used them with direct mail. On web pages they are created with a mixture of HTML and CSS. Here's a link to a forum post that advises on it. http://www.warriorforum.com/website-...ox-urgent.html If you need more examples, just search google on "how to make a johnson box".

The difference is that when you create a Wordpress site on Wordpress.com, they are hosting the site on their server, using their resources and bandwidth etc., You will need to comply with their terms & conditions. And there are limitations involved, such as the plugins situation.

The alternative is the install Wordpress on your own server with a hosting account. You can then do whatever you want with it. You have much more freedom and security with this option.

Use Wordpress.org. Get a domain and install Wordpress on it. Then pick a good theme to install on it (like Flexibility Theme which is pretty newbie friendly).

.com is hosted on Wordpress.com. Gives you less flexibility and control.

.org you host on your own domain. Gives you full control, flexibility, etc.
