Understanding how websites communicate in a Sales Funnel

I realize the importance of research that needs to take place beforehand. My confusion is outlined below after I give a brief synopsis of my understanding of the Sales Funnel process. This is a simplified version, just so I can outline my area of uncertainty and confusion, and general enough to apply to an Affiliate Offer or Product Launch. I am sure if I am making this way too technical - but my brain works at the detail level. Possibly merging my understanding of Affiliate offers with Offering your my own product makes it worse since OTO's are usually inherent in an Affiliate Offer and the fact I was told I needed a hosted website to run everything through (where it may NOT be needed for an Affiliate offer, unsure about that last statement).

The simplified sequence, as I understand it:
  1. Prospect comes to your sales page
  2. If they like your offer (free or paid) they enter their email
  3. You have a couple options, but say you send a message saying "Check your email to find the link to your product" or the order form from say Clickbank appears
  4. Present an OTO (or several OTOs)
  5. You now have a prospect/buyer on your list for more promos
  6. After #3 "above" email is sent with link to product
  7. Customer confirms a valid email and either link to free product download is sent or prospect is sent to merchant account (like Clickbank) to pay for product
  8. Thank you page is sent for each product ordered
  9. Conversation ends

So my questions are in regards to the technical side of connecting the flow mentioned in the above scenario. So here is my understanding along with my questions (Note, My questions "below" correspond to the sequence "above").
  1. Does the Sales page need to reside on your own hosted website or is there a "free" place for it? My understanding is that you need a hosted site - so unsure how that plays in. Remember, the goal is to offer great products AND create a list.
  2. Email is captured by your autoresponder.
  3. See #1 "below" (first question - 2 up from here) and replace "sales page" with "Check your email" page. Also, how is this page accessed (what makes it come up next on the prospects screen)? This is that technical link I am missing in my understanding
  4. See #3 "below". You still want to give prospect the chance at the OTO even though they refuse the initial offer (or the previous OTO).
  5. The list resides on your autoresponder. If you change your autoresponder company do you take the list with you or is is "locked" in with say aweber?
  6. This is done with your autoresponder - message sent immediately
  7. See #3 "below" replacing "OTO" with "Download" page. "Download" page may need to link to other OTO's.
  8. See #3 "below" replacing "OTO" with "Thank you" page
  9. How does the "loop" (actually more of a "flow") end?
