I just got scammed through Bitcoin

I didn't... But I imagine that what many people are thinking right now after reading this: Bitcoin exchange Mt. Gox disappears in blow to virtual currency

I guess the idea wasn't as innovative as many has thought.

I understand that our whole financial system is becoming more digitized by the year, but something about an anonymous virtual currency backed by processing power is more than a little unnerving to me. :-)

I agree - until I understand how bitcoins work - I don't think I'll be investing in them.

    Dash Evra,

There will be more coming...as long as people keep looking for the great deal
    without investigating.

I think virtual currency, whether bitcoins or something else, is here to stay. Its just so new right now that we're in unchartered waters.

No thanks. There will come a day... sooner than later, I think... when
governments will come down hard on these deals.

I looked in to BC. I fairly ran away. "Sketchy as hell" is an understatement.

This is exactly why I invest in real gold and put it in a shoebox under my bed. I don't trust technology.

Edit: Don't take this literally. If you look under my bed, you'll only find dust and some old Playboy mags.

      What's your address?

In all seriousness though, do you invest in silver as well?

Everything has its pros and cons.

Gold under the bed isn't without its disadvantages.

All money only has value because of consensus. The ultimate source of paper money is debt being generated in a bank and gets tweaked by federal reserve processes hardly anyone can understand.

When debt is generated interest is accrued, which is why banks and financial institutions become so massively wealthy and powerful at everybody's expense while providing so little value to society. The game is rigged in their favor because everybody until now has needed them to provide a medium of exchange.

If you have a tamper proof electronic currency who's supply is regulated by some sort of work being done, whether it's crowd-sourced encryption of transactions (BitCoin), original content generation (DevCoin) or some other means, it's at least as good for society in the bigger picture.

That is correct and even worst . The part that hardly anyone can understand is not true. Below is a video that explains the process in a way that even simpletons like me can understand and get shocked by it.
Bare in mind that the guy did all this effort in order to convince you to buy gold and silver (aka marketing) but that does not have to say that the facts there are not 100% true.
Regarding purchasing gold, i thought and decided that if i store
gold at home and the economy crashes i will have MAD-MAX type of visitors knocking at my door and if i store it at an Institution no one can gurantee that they will be there to protect/give me my gold back.

I do the same. And silver too. I like technology. It's the banks I don't trust! Oh, and I have a safe. A shoebox isn't too secure...
