The two options are:

nutritionquestions.com
nutritionask.com

The first one is a real phrase, and easy to remember. The second is snappier and more brandable. Which one would you be more likely to click a link to, and more likely to tell friends about who were interested in nutrition?

  • nutritionask.com

short, and EASIER to remember. And building a logo around that/brand will be easier.

"Yo bro have you been to nutritionask.com?"

    vs

"Hey, you ever been to this site called nutritionquestions.com???"

    What sounds better? Lol
  • If you are going for how it sounds, for word-of-mouth recommendations, then nutritionask.com
If you're going to try to rank in the search engines, then I'd go for nutritionquestions.com
People are more likely to type in search queries with 'nutrition' & 'questions' in.

    • i prefer definitely the second one
    • Personally I would click on any link that promised me the information I wanted.. so either name would not stop me clicking if the sales pitch was right for me.

I also agree with the other comments already made. You also have the option to take both. This could be useful for split testing.

  • I will also go with second one
  • nutrition ask and you can use the nutrition question or whatever you'd like as keywords, doesn't matter

    • Thanks everybody!

Up until today, I was almost certain that nutritionquestions.com was preferred. Shows how much I know. Not that nutritionquestions.com is bad...it's a very direct name and will probably get some traffic, and I can try out some neat split testing like was mentioned above.

      Content time, phew....

nutritionask.com looks more brandable to me.
  • zenkamal,

"Nutrition Questions" goes along with what people will type in to get info.

  • I prefer second one.
  • Go for second one. I like short domain names.

I prefer the second one since it's easier to remember. It creates an effortless Recall to anyone. On a long-term basis, the 2nd option is more flexible when it comes to branding and marketing.

    Good luck
  • I prefer the second one, NutritionAsk.com

    • How are you branding your site?

If offline in magazines, billboards or print the shorter is better.

If online marketing, then as long as it is not longer than 3 words you will be good. Very few people remember websites anyway. they click the link then go to the site. If they like the bookmark it.

I have never went to Google and thought "What was the name of that site again"???
  • I like nutritionquestions.com

Easy to remember in my view.
  • NutritionAsk has a major flaw in that it's dyslexic – it reverses the order of words compared to how we normally hear them. Nutritionquestions.com doesn't have that issue, and since we tend to think in chunks of words it doesn't matter so much that it's a few extra characters longer.
  • I like nutritionask.com

You will grab some of the authority by default from the already branded Ask.com

    Good luck

    • Just gonna throw out some thoughts for you.

NutritionQuestions - this domain gives the impression the site is more of a FAQ type site where there are multiple questions that have been already answered. An info site.

NutritionAsk - it IS nice and short but it sounds more like it's a search engine or place where a user goes to ask a question of their own.

I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to do but, you can always change the domain. Get busy with your content!
  • I like nutritionquestions.com, OK, good luck, Edward Smith.
  • Like many here, I'd also go with NutritionAsk.com.

    • Wow, this is a tight race. And the feedback has been super helpful. This is my summary of what everyone has suggested plus my thoughts:

      Nutritionask.com advantages:
      -Snappy
      -Brandable
-Makes people think of asking questions

      Nutritionask.com disadvantages:
      -Dyslexic
      -Abrupt
-If you say it fast, it sounds like "Nutrition Ass"

      Nutritionquestions.com advantages:
      -It's a natural phrase
      -Maybe some SERP juice

      Nutritionquestions.com disadvantages:
      -50% longer (18 characters)
      -Kinda generic, not so brandable

I'd like to choose by the end of this week. Any other opinions?
  • Yeah I like the sound of number two more. Its has a nice snap to it not a boring road trip. Good choices
    • [1] reply
    • nutritionask is slicker
  • NutritionQuestions.com

It is easier to remember, say, and brand, IMHO!

And, if you're going for organic traffic, it also has more built-in SEO juice than NutritionAsk.com would have in the search engines.

    Good luck!
    • [1] reply
    • Yeah, nutritionask.com is confusing to say and grammatically strange. Both names have some pros and cons, so I keep deciding then changing my mind. I'll most likely set a deadline of a couple days then choose. And develop the other one later maybe.
      • [1] reply
  • "nutritionquestions .com" gets my vote. But you should be good to go with anyone you choose.
  • What are your intentions of the site? List 100 Questions already asked with the answers? Let users ask Questions (wether it a forum or like a yahoo answers kind of way)

ask is much more snappy, but personally I would go there to ask questions I had..

So I think it depends on what your intentions are with the site. If your jut gonna do AM then maybe you want more "SERP Juice"
    • [1] reply
    • The domain name will mold the intentions to some degree. At this point I may just choose whatever the majority prefers, since then I won't feel so much buyer's remorse
      • [1] reply
  • I like this one cause its shorter. nutritionask.com
  • NutritionQuestions.com is the obvious choice and, in my opinion, it's the only logical choice, since NutritionAnswers.com is already taken.

NutritionAsk implies that you're asking nutrition something, which is just plain silly. One "fix" to that might be AskAboutNutrition but that's already taken too. And if you're thinking NutritionAsk because of the search engine ask.com, then why not NutritionGoogle or NutritionYahoo?

All the great business men for the last 200 years have said you should name your business what it is, unless you have gobs of money to make it famous. NutritionQuestions is what your business is. NutritionAsk requires an explination before people even know what it is.

A real live example is the real world brick and mortar business I helped my son build. He has 20 years experience in his chosen profession, and a lot of people know him. But, which one is best in your opinion "Robert's Place" or "Panama City Car Wash"? Which one, in your opinion, would require less advertising? Which one, in your opinion, comes up #1 in google whenever anyone in Panama City needs a car wash?

The point is, don't let your ego cause you to name your business wrong. Or don't name it wrong just because you think something is cool. Your business is questions about nutrition (hopefully answered). The only logical choice is NutritionQuestions.com

But, I could be wrong, I've only been making my living on the Internet since 1996, and I was wrong once. :-)
    • [2] replies
    • You're the first one to have a very strong opinion in favor of nutritionquestions.com, and it's a logical one. It was my initial choice because of how straight-forward it is, but then 70% of people said they prefer nutritionask, and then yadda yadda yadda.

I keep coming back to: what would I rather visit? I'd rather go to Panama City Car Wash than Robert's Place, and I'd rather go to Nutritionquestions.com than Nutritionask.com. BUT...my closest friends had a different opinion than me. So logic may not win the day. Unless I develop both of them.
    • He didnt say he was naming it ask because of ask.com, somebody said he "Could" get a bit of free PR because of the famous ask.com (ask being a keyword ... As far as the second part of this ... REALLY? Thats just asking for a DMCA and the loss of your site.

How do you explain what ebay is? Amazon? Google? Facebook? Don't need gobs of money in this, Just need smart and effective SEO. Everyone knows Zuckerberg, started in a dorm room with 3 friends and flat broke! (No gobs)

Glad your making a living online, but please don't drive this guy into the ground before he starts! ... And I guess that would make twice now!
      • [1] reply
  • I would choose nutritionask.com or something with "ask" in the name since nutritionask.com is already taken. To me, having "ask" as part of the name of the nutrition website means that the website has the answers to questions I'm looking for.
  • I agree NutritionAsk is much better!
  • dunno, but I'm off to buy NutritionAnswers.com
  • nutritionask.com
its shorter and easier for people to type in

as you know is short and easier to remember by your visitors !
    good luck
  • better to with the second one.
  • The first one sounds like it's better for SEO purposes. The second one is more brandable.
  • I personally would click on nutritionask.com. Plus it's shorter and easy to remember.

How about .guru extensions for your niche?

    • I vote nutritionquestions.com.
    • Hi zenkamal!

Obviously, there are pros and cons for each. I'd make the choice based on two things: The purpose of the site, and what happens when you begin to type a search in over at Google.

When I started typing "Nutrition Ask," nothing populated; however, when I started typing "Nutrition Questions," I got an auto-populating response as soon as I typed the "Q" in questions.

That tells me it's a phrase people are typing in on a very regular basis. That's MONEY.

      Best of luck to you!
  • Second one is better according-to my opinion.
  • nutritionask is better than nutristionquestions for my opinion because it is easy to remember and to pronounce. And as they said, it makes a catchy slogan.
  • nutricionquestions.com looks more professional off-line as I am sure you will be doing promo items like business cards, car signage and such. It will be easier for users to remember and find you the second time they hear about you.
  • I will take both than you can be a authority in both but shorter are better.
You can always brand yourself in which one ever and have good content and it will still work well that's my opinion

I prefer nutritionask.com def a more brandable and memorable choice.
  • IT'S LIVE!

Check it out at nutritionask.com. Maybe even ask a question if you're bored. (you can log in using google/fb/whatever)

As a bit of background, I'm a nutrition PhD student, so I can occasionally answer nutrition questions for real I worked on the 2010 vitamin D guidelines for the federal government, and have a specialty in nutrition and chronic pain, fructose and other sugars, and paleo/ancestral/whole foods eating.

Thanks so much for the feedback everyone, it was a tough choice. Snappy vs SEO, grammar vs branding, lots to think about.
  • Glad to see it live :

    I also preferred nutritionask.com
  • Nutrition ask makes no sense to me. I'd go with nutrition questions.
    • [1] reply
    • Alas, I repressed my personal inclination to go with nutritionquestions and went with the popular vote. But since I still like nutritionquestions, will be developing that later too.
  • Nutritionask.com is more catchy one.
You can make brand out of it.
It is easy to remember and it looks good too.
  • nutritionask.com is better for me. It is easier to remember and shorter. It sounds nice also. People could easily remember this.
  • For me, if everything else is almost same, then the shorter the better. I would go for the second one
  • The content matters more than the domain, keyword-wise. Nuritionask.com is far better and more brandable.
  • Nutritionask.com is better. Nutritionquestions.com is more like an EMD so it's going to be more risky and less brandable.
  • i choose the second one is more broad

    • I'd be afraid of nutritionask as it could be perceived as an extension of ask.com

      Too close for my comfort...
  • As I think you go for nutritionask.com because it has complete sense for visitors also you are offering them to ask a question about nutrition so you will be able to touch with your visitors and get more positive results due to this domain
  • The short and obvious answer is nutritionquestions.com
    • [1] reply
    • Consider your profiling sight also, let say if you have Facebook fan page or group then "Nutrition Questions" clears everyone easily than "Nutrition Ask".

My go will be with nutritionquestions.com
  • Nutritionask - it`s shorter. Easier to remember. That`s what i would chose. But you could always redirect the first one to the second, and have them both.

  • of course second one.
  • Main site: nutritionask.com

    Squeeze page: nutritionquestions.com

"Hey Bro got any NutrionQuestions.com? Go ask Scooby!"

Sorry, but AskNutrionQuestions.com has already been registered.
  • I'd go for nutrition ask, definitely a more catchy name, it would look better in the banner/header too.
  • I'd say nutritionask..Catchy and easier to remember.
  • nutritionask.com short website name and easy to remember.
  • I don't really think it matters. Especially on this one. People will focus only on the "nutrition" part because whoever will enter your website needs some serious information about this topic, they will not care whether the second word is "questions" or "ask".
  • nutritionask.com . Shorter , in the point
  • I'm actually surprised people are recommending NutritionAsk.

I mean, I get the reasoning, but in this case, I don't think it has a very nice "ring" to it. NutritionQuestions, while longer and not a perfect name, has a nicer flow to it, in my honest opinion.

But I think you can do better.

Take a sheet of paper and write out about 50 possibilities down - sitting as long as it takes to wrench more out of your brain - until you arrive at one that just clicks. You may have to carry the paper around with you for a day or so. But you'll know it when you find it, and you probably won't need to check with anyone else because it'll just be that obvious.

That's the process I usually go through when coming up with domain names (I don't target SEO beyond making it obvious what the site is about).

And I always get compliments on my domain branding; I've even gotten paid to come up with names for companies and websites in the past.

EDIT: My bad - just noticed that the OP already chose the other one. To be clear, even if I don't think it's ideal, I think you can make it work. Sometimes it is just better to get started...

Hope it pans out and good luck with the site!
  • silly focusing days or weeks on names.

Get off your ass, and just get it done, so you can go and build the most important parts of your business. The real nitty gritty, the name is just a name, do not expect anything earthshattering or big money from just a name. That is where hard work comes in/
    • [1] reply
    • Depends.

In my opinion, if you're planning to create a real business, you take every part of it seriously. The name of your business is a huge part of your branding strategy and a chance to communicate your unique selling position in one fell swoop.

This is why many authority websites that are making a great deal of money will even go as far as to change their name and move to a new domain even after they are successful.

Yes, you're right that it won't do your work for you. But its potential shouldn't be ignored.

You can also be working on other stuff during the brainstorming process, so it's not like everything else sits on the back burner until you come up with something.

If it's just a "web project" rather than a real business, on the other hand, I suppose the webmaster can feel free to go with the first thing that pops into their head.

      To each their own.
  • I prefer
    Nutritionask.com
  • He/she already stated that both were bought, so no more recommendations are needed.
