How Many of You Actually Segment Your Email Lists?

I'm curious how many of you who are into list building, actually segment your lists into sub-lists, and then build autoresponder follow-ups on those using tools like AW Pro Tools?

It seems very tedious, but I'm sure the payoff can be huge if done correctly.

I'd love to hear your experiences and successes...

Cheers!

    Here's my abbreviated two cents:

Main advantage of autoresponders, segmenting, and funnels:
    1) Perfect for tracking. You can setup a massive autoresponder sequence, then track open rates, clicks, and sales. This is really badass when you get this going, because you can then see what styles work the best for opens/clicks, and most importantly, sales. You can also readjust your style to take advantage of the data you get.

Main advantage of NOT segmenting/autoresponders & SOLEY relying on broadcsts
    1) This is the "agile development" approach. It's light. It's easy. It takes 5% of the effort of having a massive autoresponder sequence. And is very agile and "clean". Another note that's worthy of notation, is that you can create content that's 100% "real time" and based upon "0day events". This is a major advantage, arguably THE advantage of not segmenting/funneling.

    More notes:
Segmenting works best if you have a big, complex, multithreaded autoresponder. The potential to create a massively evergreen, profitable asset (aka multithreaded autoresponder funnel) is literally endless. The problem of course, is the initial development and upkeep. Funnels will never be 100% evergreen, and they are difficult to move if you ever change anything. IE: They are *NOT* agile. (They don't have to be evergreen necessarily, but that's a debate for another time).

    Just my $.02 brainstorm.

As far as what I use; I use a mixture of both autoresponder/funnels/segments and "real time" - "0day" broadcasts. My formula is everchanging. I get bored easy.

As far as funnels/segmenting - I keep them as evergreen as possible, and as "easy" as possible.

In your experience does the segmenting route make more profits and money?, ,compared to not segmenting.

This is basically what I would have said. Depends on the niche. Some change so fast it's hard to setup much ahead of time.

In my GR account I only ever send to segments.

At the very least, you shoud have 4 basic segments...

    1. Leads in follow-up sequence
    2. Leads finished follow up sequence
    3. Customer in follow up sequence
    4. Customers finished follow up sequence.

You could also segment along the same lines but in sub-niches (especially for the customer lists) if your niches are very different from each other.
