About blogging traffic

I have one question, is it illegal when you make a blog and find articles on other websites and preview them on your blog for others to see as a quick source of information? Where everyone would go for specific things but they are from other websites?

What do you mean by "preview them on your blog"?
Are you asking if you can copy articles from other sites and post them on yours?

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

I am asking if you can give an overview of the article then have a link to the real article.

Yes. If you give an "overview" i.e. a summary in your OWN words and then give a link to the original - that's fine.

If you copy part of the original post and give a link... you are on thin ice.

Not sure exactly what you mean by "overview of the article".

The internet thrives on the sharing of quality content so
linking to articles with valuable information is a time-honored
        practice.

What you should always do in your "overview" is ADD VALUE
to the content you are linking to by:

        (1)incisive analysis

(2)examples of personal use or benefit

(3)additional ways of implementation or use

(4)Alert as to the most valuable core of the linked to content

(5)Identify relevant resources that enhance the value of the content

Then, there should be no objections whatsoever of your linking,
and the ADDED VALUE will provoke some subsequent backlinks
        to your content.

Sounds a little like you want to use others content but without coming outright and saying I want to copy what you have.

I am not sure legally where you stand I can tell you not to expect Google to come running to your site if this is your plans when it comes to content.

Write yourself its much more worthwhile and will see you gaining rankings with minimal links if it is good user targeted content.

Better to come up with your own content or you won't really rank. One strategy is of course to have backlinks to the articles that you mentioned but you definitely have to come up with your own content.

Plus, you really don't want to put other people's content on your blog because sooner or later you are going to get called out for it, maybe right on your own blog if you allow comments. That could hurt both your credibility as well as the credibility of the blog.

I don't RSS would be considered illegal, but Google doesn't really favor sites that use excessive RSS feeds, unless they have independently created, original content that complements or explains the content of the RSS feeds.

What the other's were saying about writing an orignal synopsis of the article is the way to go if you want to do it at all. However, you want to make sure that this is not 100% of your blog content. Doing the outside article linking from time to time is ok, just make sure most of your content is all your own. If you don't want to write it, hire someone to do it. There are various places online to do this, you can even post a Gig ad on craigslist for article writers in your area.

If you wrote your own original synopsis paragraph of the article being linked to, you might be able to use this technique. And, actually, this is a fairly common technique used by many bloggers who provide round up lists of best article resources, linking to an original source.

I wouldn't put their content on your site, ever. If you mention things in your article that are congruent with another idea simply link to it naturally.

If for example you're writing about guns and you mention assembly of the weapon after cleaning and steps to take, you might link to the site where you learned the information from.

You can link to whatever you want on the net and yes you can give an overview or summary of that post too but you could get in trouble if you straight copy and pasted othe peoples articles into your own blog without their permission.

You can take any article that you want and place it on your blog.

But there is one rule you have to follow....

Most of these articles have their own resource box with the article owner's link. You have to leave their link as it is and not change anything.

Sorry, Tal, but this is horrific and dangerous advice.

You may NOT take "any article that you want and place it on your blog". That's called "breach of copyright", and unsurprisingly enough it will get your site taken down, as soon as the owner of the copyright serves a DMCA site take-down notice on your hosting company. That's what DMCA take-down notices are for.

And if you're unlucky, it might even get you sued, as well.

You can take articles from an article directory (provided you use them in accordance with the directory's terms of service), because of course that's exactly what their authors have put them in an article directory for: to be republished, and they've given their permission and waived copyright (subject to the application of the directory's TOS) by putting them there. But for Heaven's don't take them from anywhere else without permission!!

Don't quote more than a few lines. And, even so, link directly to the page where you took the content from. Never take credit for material that is not yours. I'm not saying you won't get into some sort of duplicate content issue with Google, but maybe if you used quote marks for any quoted text, it would be acceptable.

    Take a look at huffingtonpost.com

It's called content curation and what you're talking about is acceptable so long as you don't copy/paste the majority of the article on your site. Normally around 20% is acceptable but try not to have too many links pointing to other sites.

You could also ask the original authors if you can post a part of their article on your blog with a link back to the original. Most would be OK with this, and if not, then you just don't post it. But it is legal to post like 20-40% of someone else's article with a link back to the source. Its called content curation, like others have mentioned already. The news does this all the time. That's why when some breaking news story comes out, there are immediately 100s of articles with almost the same thing in it from all different sources.

You shouldn't blatantly copy & paste full articles on your site unless you have permission from the copyright owners - for instance, getting it from article directories. Portions, quotes, or a preview of the content should be fine so long as you provide a link back to the original.

    Hi Bob,

As a rule, it's always best to create your own content. If you're using someone else's posts, credit them fully and of course, ask them first. Ask them for permission to use their posts before you do so because some people may not want their content on your blog, if it's off topic, or just not vibing with your delivery.

I say, create your own stuff. Brand you. Stand out from the crowd. Curating works nicely if you create a big time, comprehensive lead in with your own content and if you're curating through a few different channels relevant to your niche.

The challenge lies in finding great content that's not been curated by the big boys, or the top curation sites on the web.

This is why it's best to write daily, to learn how to create and publish your own content. Be unique and brand you on your blog.

    All the best.

You can't just preview them on your blog as it is illegal until you have written permission from the original publisher/Author. Better be genuine write your own content, which will increase your own credibility.

I don't think, it will be permitted legally. But you can contact directly to the sites regarding the same question about their copyright and sharing policies.
