Radio Friendly Unit Shifter to IM (help)

Hi there,

I'm a radio professional who has made the move to the internet in hopes of making a living for myself. Because my only real expertise is in terrestrial radio, my first endeavor online was offering voice over services.

I've been working the freelancer sites for 2 years and have finally gotten to a point where I'm high ranking on those sites and am making up to 2k per month from recurring clients and my personal website.

Now, I'm looking to diversify, so to speak. Obviously I'd like to expand on my VO business and perhaps really market myself in that regard, but I'm also interested in developing some other skills for making money online.

Niche sites, podcasting and things like that have my attention, but I guess I'm having a hard time figuring out where to begin. Maybe I should just focus on the VO stuff for now and really marketing myself.

Any advice on where to go to find tools and information for newbies would be greatly appreciated. Also, maybe you could check out my site and give me some feedback on how it looks, functions etc. (I am currently working on updating my Commercial VO demo).

Anyway, I'm happy to be on the forum now and really getting into it. It's definitely information overload, so any tips on where to begin would be great! Thanks so much!

    Also you can create videos. Not the ones with your face in front of a camera but more the screen cast type videos.

    IMHO, you should expand in VO business instead of burning money in new niches. May be go for bigger clients?

    First let me congratulate you on breaking into the VO business, many people would think that it is a natural extension of your radio work, but once having worked in both areas, I know it is not easy to bring them together. As an outsider looking in without complete information I would caution you on taking on too many different projects at once. Trying to build a VO business is a full time job and spending time trying to get into non related internet marketing is going to dilute your efforts. I would advise you to set your goals and priorities then stick to them. OK, thanks and good luck, Edward Smith.

      Hey guys,

      Thanks so much for your thoughts. I suppose you're all right in regards to sticking with one business and expanding. I guess what I really need to do is find other ways of expanding the VO business online.

      Bidding on projects is a pain and rarely is worth the effort at this stage in the game. Bringing high quality clients to me should really be the mission. So I need to investigate marketing techniques for myself online, does that sound right?
