Unsubscribing to increase productivity.

I used to think that it was necessary to stay on a bunch of email list to stay abreast of new developments in IM, like a doctor reading medical journals.

But now it is completely overwhelming. I get several dozen emails, mostly product pitches, a week. Sorting through them all, trying to separate the wheat from the shaft, is a time suck.

In addition, if I do purchase something like a WSO I cannot properly evaluate it without it being a distraction from my current campaigns and projects.

I must admit though occasionally there are really good products, that could be integrated into my business, that I would not have found out about without being on some many email list.

I thinking about unsubscribing to all my mailing list even if it means the possibility of missing out on good products.

What do other warriors do? Do you worry about keeping your knowledge current?

Yep, I unsubscribe to stuff all the time. Usually it's because they start sending too many emails. Much more than once a week and I'm gone.

You should definitely keep your knowledge current on whatever your niche is. The hard part is finding the right sources to accomplish that. It's a balancing act.

Sounds like you need some time management skills. If emails are taking away from important time spent in your business I would shut the email notifications off and stay focused on activities that make money and contribute to your financial goals.
Yes it is annoying at times with the volume some marketers send emails and yes there can be some gold in there. You can set up a special folder in the inbox that directs the specified marketers email without populating your inbox every 30 minutes, that is if you insist on keeping your email open while you work.

I keep all marketing/subscribes to another email list if I feel like reading marketing emails. I know it was overwhelming to see it on my main email account.

I've found it necessary to be very stingy with my focus. Nothing except information on my currently chosen #1 priority niche gets through, otherwise... 'Shiny Object Syndrome' takes over.

Choose a niche, master it, automate as much of the process as possible and THEN rinse and repeat.

He who tries to be a jack of all trades ends up a master of none.

Thanks for the reply Clyde. Could clarify what you meant by "my currently chosen #1 priority niche"? Are you referring to the marketing method or product? For example, if you were using Adwords to sell dog training ebooks. Would you consider Adwords or dog training your "currently chosen #1 priority niche"?

What I find particularly problematic being on so many lists is the time it takes to go through all of that email every single day. It seems like such a waste of time and it is a distraction as you mentioned.

That being said, I have said to myself time and time again I am going to unsubscribe from all of these lists but somehow I never do . I guess, like you, I am always worried that I will miss some important method, release, product, etc.

You may want to join a master mind group. Share some of the resources that you have amassed, and ask some of the group members to test things out for you, and let you know any ideas as to how to best, and easy use them to make money.

Sounds like you have the e-mail monster in your inbox. Started sweet and innocent now it is just a nightmare checking your inbox. But not worry, here is the solution for you. Create a separate e-mail account and only use that email for whatever updates you want to sign up for that way your main email is clutter free and you aren't buried with messages. Also with many different offers hitting you as you thought already it can cause you to be less productive and have information overload. Find a few methods you've learned and work that.

After years of experience in the IM industry I can now know, on most occasions, if the newsletter is worth subscribing. I get that from quick analysis of the source of newsletter; their website, their sales pitch, their over content and other things.

If I make mistake then I unsubscribe. In my starting years I had dozens of emails everyday now I only get few over a period of 7 days. I am at peace!

Sounds like you are focused on receiving rather than giving.
Let me expand on that - I'm not being rude! :-)
When you create the information yourself you are focused on giving that information to others - free or paid.
Just by doing this you change your focus and become far more productive.
But - you need to stay up to date. Find the industry leaders and stay on their list only.
Or find the authority websites, create your own feed (feedly.com) and check in on updates once a week.

I like to keep a close eye on the market and the two main ways by which I do so is by going to a few forums and keeping up with them. Also, I subscribe to important companies and people that keep me updated with the latest news and trends. This actually increases my productivity.

I always like to have an overall map of where I am and where I want to go, and any changing direction of the wind. Being subscribed helps a lot.

If you feel that being a subscriber on most lists is wasting your time then you should take yourself off them. I just did that recently.

Most lists out there, they only pitch you on the same product or multiple products.
