I have a custom job but when I set one up for someone I set up mail poet.
You need a smtp with it and I like mandrill.
A little rough setting up and you have to make sure you host allows it. Hostgator does.
Have the mail port set to 587 and you have to mail them for that. Always say please open so I can mail my DOUBLE OPT IN LIST say nothing about single opt in.

Its free for up to 2000 members and mandrill is free for up to 12,000 emails a month and dirt cheap after that.

Also install pretty links light or something so you can cloak your affiliate links.

    Hope that helps.

You'll get lower inbox delivery figures with self hosted AR. Why don't you try Mail Chimp? It has free tier.

      This is completely false!

      I test this every day!

My self-hosted autoresponder gets much better delivery and inboxing rate than both my Aweber and GetResponse account do...

I wish folks would stop spreading bad information! You are hurting the community!

      Cheers,
      Coby

P.S. I use Interspire. It works great.

You know I am tired of parrots, they are the ones that just repeat everyone else. They are the ones that have been brainwashed by the big AR companies.

I am not blowing my own horn but I actually test things and do things in real life.

I actually get better Inbox rates with self hosted. One google and the rest hate marketers they do not like the words ar. I was making good money with google affiliiate platform and they shut that down cause they do not like affiliate marketing.

I set up 300 email accounts. The accounts were outlook, gmail, yahoo, excite, throwawy emails.

I test against Aweber, Getresponse and my own custom self hosted autoresponder.

I recieved 30 percent better inbox rates with self hosted than aweber, even get response was bettter than aweber.

Several reasons you want to go self hosted.

    1. you have the control over it. Make backups put on additional domain. if you get hit with s DDOS ATTACK like aweber is going through now you can easily switch over.
    2. Your website will be worth tons more because your subscriber base to the company goes with it. You can't sell your accounts on aweber or getresponse.
    3. Price, just so much dang cheaper in the long run.

Now for more evidence. do the big companies have AR's not usually most of them use there own self hosted, do you think they would do that if the mails went to spam.

One example then I will let you decide. Who does Warriorforum use, they are huge. I have never found a warriors email in my spam box. look at the header and tell me who they use it will be after the smtp.
This is called a header and is in every email you get, it authenticates the reciever and the sender.
    --------------------------
    X-Original-Authentication-Results: mx.google.com; spf=pass (google.com: best guess record for domain of support@warriorforum.com designates 174.37.60.234 as permitted sender) smtp.mail=support@warriorforum.com

Thanks hustlinsmoke , That's very useful information !. Most of us have been brainwashed by AR companies and their affiliates . The testing you did with 300 emails is pretty impressive.
    1. Make backups put on additional domain >> is this like installing the AR sw on 2 domains ?
    2. arpReach for example has more features (list segmentation, and AR for those segments) than Aweber and arpReach is cheaper , but why do most use services like aweber (I guess because it's the power of marketing, ease of setup etc )
Apologies for the delay, I've been away

Well ATT I would honestly tell you to use a service like listwire to start it is free and your questions are as if you have no experience.
      Why do I suggest listwire.

Your just starting out and its free.
It won't hurt you that bad since you are just starting out.
Once you understand the ins and outs of the AR world then you can switch that list to a self hosted without worrying about it.

There going to yell at me again for telling you to use listwire but thats okay ATT cause I have been working on the web for more than 20 years. I am telling you nothing I have not did or experimented with.

If you need questions answered feel free to pm me for my skype name. I have a mastermind group I stay in most the time there and can answer your questions there and there are more in there to help you out too. Not offering you a place to stay just to come and visit lol.

Thanks again PM sent I know you are very busy these days, but I hope I can still get the skype name.
I've been using aweber for about 4 years now (about 7k users) (just pi**ed off with the DDOS stuff). But I will be happy to start from the scratch

I have been working on the web for more than 20 years. I am telling you nothing I have not did or experimented with. >>>> This is very cool ! also the testing you did with 300 emails for deliverablility , not many people would have even thought of doing that !

As per your suggestion I started playing with mail poet, you were absolutely right , it's a bit tricky to install (on a shared svr), will get that sorted, and test

You should check this list of Email Marketing Software

It's a comparison of over 10 EMS with its features, pricing, software integration etc. Just go right through the sheet to find out which software is best for you.

By the way, I'm using MailChimp for almost 6 months now. Maybe you can consider that for your review.

@Assignmentwriter if you are just starting out, go with aweber (or mailchimp if you can't afford to pay the monthly fee).

Self hosted solutions are best for once you have enough experience (:

Aweber without a doubt! I've used several services including Get Response and MailChimp when working for clients in the past and Aweber remains my favorite. It's easy to use for beginners and the optin forms are fully customizable.

Oh yeah, and it's affordable too!

I have used both Aweber and Getresponse and to be honest, I love Getresoponse better.

I have been online for 11 years now and totally love Getresoponse.com so I would recommend that if you are going to get out of Aweber.

If you are planning on using self hosted autoresponder you should think also about technical difficulties.
You can't use your own IPs to sent emails because your emails will be marked as spam more often.

You would have to use SMTP service like smtp2go.com to relay your emails.
This way all techincal stuff like IP reputation etc, is handles by them and your emails have more chance of getting to specific mailboxes.

It's probably a better (and cheaper) option once the list is about 5k ++

Well its cheaper no matter what, its free for up to 2000 then only like 99 a year which isnt bad but I have free ones for you, just suggested that one cause the interface is easier to learn. Self hosted shouldn't even cost 99 a year.

I pay nothing for the software but I mine custom made, I pay mandrill over 12000 email a month and it comes out to nothing major. I was paying well over 200 a month in AR fees before this.

I sent you my skype name.

This is on my list of "to do" scripts, mainly because I could never find one that had all the functions I actually require.
Let me know what functions you require "must have" and I will included them.
