Hi Warriors,

I'm currently writing an eBook and I'd like to use the PDF format. However, I have no idea how to insert hyperlinks in a PDF doc. Can it be done with the free version or you can only do it with a paid version?

If it can be done with the free version, may I know how it's done?

Thanks a lot for your help guys!

Cheers~

  • Mark, what ebook creation software are you using?

If you're using OpenOffice Writer, then you can do this 2 ways:

    1. simply type out the link and either hit the space bar after it or the "enter" key

    or

    2. type out the text to be linked such as: "My Great Site", highlight the text, click on the little globe with chain links icon, and add your link inside the window that will pop open, hit apply and that's it

Option one is probably the easiest, but option two let's you better hide your links which is especially handy if it's an affiliate link

Then, once you've got all your links in place, click the PDF icon, give your new ebook PDF file a name, and have fun testing out your links.

  • Mark,

Most of the paid professional PDF programs will let you use
a link by just inserting it by starting it with the "www".

To be sure of the hyper-link, (especially the free ones) you should
always use the full URL beginning with the "http://".

I personally use Nitro PDF Professional.
    Hope this helps.

    • You can also try the utilities at PDF995.

Download the print driver, the converter, and PDFEdit995. It's a little tricky to get it to work the first time and it's probably not as slick as OpenOffice. However, I use it to produce my eBooks and it works OK.

  • You can do this in a breeze with Openoffice. While exporting the file as a pdf, make sure you edit your headers as html if you want them hyperlinked too.

    • ^^^ My vote goes to OpenOffice as well - very easy to use, convert to PDF at the click of a button, and best of all it's free.

    • Hi,

If you want to add hyperlinks to a PDF, there's a great tool I used recently which is free, online (you don't have to download it) and I found it pretty easy to use.

The site is: pdfescape.com (this is not an aff link - don't know if they even have one).

It enables you to do lots of other editing as well, such as adding annotations using arrows, sticky notes etc...

Take a look - hope it helps you.
  • What I do to insert hyperlinks to PDF documents is, I use Adobe Acrobat X (I'm on a Mac most of the time). I simply open the PDF document in the program and use the link tool to create a clickable space within the document which is an actual link.
  • The easiest way acc to me is to get, MS word 2010. Write text, insert images, insert links to your heart's content and just save it as pdf and Done!

    • Just try to use free online service www?freepdfconvert?com
    • or install cutepdf converter. its free
  • Not sure, but you can try if this works:

First add links in the .doc format

Convert that to PDF for free online
  • I tried using Lightning PDF Pro and CutePDF for this.
