I'm trying to configure my genesis wordpress site similar to entrepreneur on fire, in that, the home page lists the latest podcasts, plus there is another link in the navigation that goes to the regular blog which contains non podcast posts.

Is this possible to do without hacking the code? Tks

In reading (in the wordpress) settings menu, I usually create a static page Home, and then set my recent posts to Blog.

From the sounds of it, you would need to do the exact opposite.

Another words, set your recent posts to Home, and your static page to Blog. -I think

    or

In settings, keep Home as the static page

Blog for recent posts, and add a widget on the sidebar that displays your recent posts (or in your case - podcasts)

Thanks, but what exactly do you mean "set your recent posts to Home"?

When you want a static page to show as your main URL, for example yoursite (dot) com you need to go into the WP Dashboard under Settings> Reading. There you will see

    Front Page Displays

1.) Your latest posts (Set to BLOG)
2.) A static page (Set to Home)

If you choose HOME as your static page your main URL will be yoursite(dot)com without the yoursite(dot)com/home extension. So, if someone types in your direct URL it will automatically take them to your designated "Home" page

Now, if You create another "Page" entitled; "Blog" by default that page will NOT show any content, until you write your new 'posts' and 'publish' them... the new posts will automatically be displayed to your "Blog" if you choose options mentioned above.

However, if you create a post 'entitled' blog after creating the main page "Blog" - I've noticed it often causes conflict with the WP engine being able to properly publish new posts as blog posts. *If you've done this, you'll need to change the post name 'permalink' to something other than blog. Same can be said if you have a Page and a Post both titled as Home. You only want 1 page title Home, and 1 page titled Blog...NEVER create a post using either title again, especially in a new post.

Generally, I create a page simply titled "Home" and set that as my STATIC home page in the Settings>Reading options

And then Create a Blank Page Titled "Blog" and publish it. Then, by default everytime you create a New Post, it will automatically be displayed under the Page you created called; "Blog" - You can add the Blog Page in Menus whereby it will show on your navigation bar, but won't display any content, until you start creating posts.

Also, it's good practice to set your permalinks (again in the wordpress dashboard menu) > Permalinks to display as /%postname%/ so the WP engine will read and display them accordingly.

I hope that answers your question, as I am just assuming you have these settings misconfigured.

Thanks Terril, but I'm trying to do something similar to entrepreneuronfire.com
If you look at that site you will see the home page has *only* posts about podcasts, while their blog page has only non podcast related posts.
I do know how to set up a static home page and a seperate blog page.
I'm getting closer to getting it done but I think I'm either going to need to do a lot of stuff with widgets or have this coded for me by a programmer. Thanks for your help.
