The Truth : There is really no quick and easy way to make money online!

by rapidscc 15 replies
Making your initial 100$ or more in the internet is really not that easy for a newbie. Others would surely react to this statement. A lot, specially authors of secret "money making in a breeze" ebooks would definitely disagree.

There are authors out there declaring you can become a thousand richer in a few hours and my statements in this post will not be congruent with their promises.

But then again, the truth has some sting to it.

How can I dare say this. Some of you may ask. Let me get you in on what I've done for one month.

I made a challange to myself to make money in 30 days in the internet.
There are several conditions.

1. I won't use credit cards - coz I don't have one
2. I will only use free hosting and free sub-domain names - since I can't afford to buy them.

These are my motivation for making myself a challenge:

1. I'm presently out of work.
2. I'm running out of cash.
3. I have tons of bills to pay.

And these are my limitations:

1. I'm here in asia, Philippines in particular.
2. I worked for 4 hours or more in the internet everyday for 30 days.
3. I have my own computer and DSL connection.

Let me summarize what happened.

in 30 days I was able to gather a lot of information on the different systems of earning in the internet, namely:

1. Adsense/advertisement
2. Affiliate marketing
3. Data entry/Surveys
4. Website flipping
5. Ebooks marketing
6. Freelance job

This is what I learned:

In takes a while for your adsense account to generate cash. You must have a good traffic to your site to gain some nice cash from adsense.
This does not come overnight. You can create as much blog as you want but you must take the necessary time and effort to properly write articles and promote the site. Which will also take time.

You can submit your site to bookmarking sites, yet you still have to sign up. Which will definitely take up more that two days, even up to a week just to sign up into about 45 of the biggest bookmarking sites.

Further, you can submit your articles to ezinearticles and other directories like goarticles but that will still take a day or two. Nothing "Instant" baby.

All this time, traffic is still small. Adsense, NADA!

Affiliate marketing!

This is very promising, imagine being able to earn from other peoples products. Some even give very high commissions. Only when I applied in clickbank, they don't offer in my country. :-( Same goes for a lot of the paid surveys site. Also you can't do affiliate marketing in one day from a newbie standpoint.

This will involve getting into the adwords program and advertising, as a newbie it would probably take a week of two before the program starts earning!

Website flipping!

The hottest, it promises to make you big bucks. Imagine selling your site for a thousand, two, three of even half a million. Although for all of the methods and system of making money this is the most time consuming and can't be done in a day if you're flat broke like me! :-)

If you have several hundreds of dollars in reserve it may be possible to buy a website now (www.sitepoint.com) and sell it after two to three weeks for a higher profit margin. But then again that still took some time and money.

Ebooks marketing!

You may do this as an affiliate or as an author yourself. As an author, forget about making money in a week unless of course if you are a copycat. Writing ebook takes time and talent. And cash to start marketing.

Im just wondering how the old folks do it, like "Robert Allen" or others who said they were able to make it work within hours just using a pc and internet. Any input on this will do..

I have a pc and internet and yet I have been killing myself for a month in hard work and yet I can't see the light! :-) or maybe again those were just good sales copies I've read.

Freelance job

Go to elance.com or getafreelancer.com and you will definitely find jobs which pays in dollars.

Although you must bid and wait. After that comes the work, and then the pay. Which is still about a a week, two weeks or month or two. Still no easy way baby!

Now, why is there soo much hype in making instant money in the internet?

The truth is that instant money goes to those who have already establish their niche or system of earning! Imagine once you buy an ebook, at that very moment money is being made in an instant, although it doesn't go to you. It goes the other way.

Therefore, the truth! as a newbie there is no instant way to make money in an hour, in a day or two. A week maybe if you have a credit card.

As a newbie, it all boils down to this, due diligence and patience. Proper motivation and equivalent action! Sites like these will be a great help but then again if you are worried about money to buy your food tonight or some cash to pay your bills tomorrow the internet can't give it to you. That's not how the way things work.

If you know an easy way to earn right now! please share it with us.

I mean easy way to earn for us ehh! not earn from us :-)

Great Post !! And you pretty much hit it on the nail with the last part !! It does just take time. Thats all there is to it. There are some exceptions that I have come across where a newbie hits it big in PPC and starts making 6 figures a month. But that is extremely rare !! And even to do that you have to have a good amount of seed money to be competitive in Bidding on keywords wih PPC !!

Yep it pretty much is like everything else in Life. You gotta put in the sweat and time to see the rewards !!

Let me make a keen suggestion here though. You seem to have a decent gift in writing as is evident in this long epic diatribe. And I mean that in a good way. So use that talent in Article Marketing with EZA or Go Articles !!

Andl let me get you in on a little secret equation here! Ready here it is :
A well thought out business Plan + good creative writing abilities + persistence and hard work = MAJOR COIN IN THE BANK PERIOD !! END OF STORY !!! so dammit go buy your beach house in the Bahamas in 5 years why dont ya

First ... congratulations on your willingness to step out there and get started.

Second ... I don't know that your statement of "no quick and easy way" is accurate. What you have done is admirable and if you stick with it, you will see results. But this particular approach is not a quick and easy way, for sure.

That does not, however, mean that there is "NO quick and easy way" to make money online.

My first venture in to Internet marketing was quite a bit different than what you have described here. It was years ago and we didn't have a lot of the tools and resources that are available today.

      All I did (literally) was:

      1) Came up with an idea.
      2) Created some ad copy.
      3) Bought some ezine ads. (I used a credit card)
      4) Started taking orders via Paypal.

When sales started coming in, I didn't have a thing to deliver! (I was honest in the ad and told them that the product was in development. I offered them a discount if they ordered early to help test).

So I scrambled, got a programmer to create what I had sold, and that was that. (I arranged to pay the programmer from proceeds instead of paying in advance).

That was some "quick and easy" money. Many of those first customers are still customers today and have purchased other products and services from me for many years.

All I knew was that this Internet stuff worked! And all I wanted was to do it some more.

And it's not just time. It takes planning, dedication, and a willingness to work. You have to understand that you are laying the foundation for a business that will keep providing for you and your family for a long time to come.

It's down to the old proverb of building your castle on sand or stone. Yes, you can make a quick buck online. You can make a few hundred right away (at times), but without a solid foundation there won't be more of that money.

Making your initial 100$ or more in the internet is really not that easy for a newbie.
          I beg to differ...

          Ebay.

It's dead simple to make money on ebay. All you need to do is find something someone wants, buy low, and sell high.

When I was first starting out online I used to do this with collectables, especially rare and antiquarian books, that I would find at thrift shops, rummage sales, and garage sales.

I also did it with resale rights products which I shipped on physical CDs.

I found it was not hard to make an extra few hundred to a thousand or more a month on ebay.

Its no different today and its dead simple... no special strategy needed. If you have something someone wants and you can buy it low enough to sell at a profit you can make your first $100 online immediately.

          ---

In fact making your first $1000 online does not have to be that difficult either...

What makes it difficult is all the programs and gimmicks being hawked online in the "make money on the net" niche.

If you just ignore what people are saying and instead learn from what they are doing and create your own high demand products services etc.

Well now you get the picture... or do you?

            Hi Rapiscc

Internet marketing has very low barriers to entry, but they're not non-existant.

With no credit card, you won't be able to open an eBay account. So the absolute easiest and quickest way to get a little seed capital isn't available. Maybe you can try to sell something via craigslist or, perish the thought, go offline to offer something (a service?) just in order to get enough for a basic domain/hosting package.

You'll only need $20 for a WSO, for example. Clearly you have writing ability. Why not just pick an in-demand topic/niche and concentrate on writing 10-20 highly targeted articles. Then either put these up on a blog/website to showcase them as an example of your writing while offering your freelance services (include the url in your sig file) or sell the articles as a plr package via a WSO. You'll get enough to start building a bit of momentum.

But you'll need a few things in place. A PayPal account for a start. Do you have one? I can't remember the conditions when I opened my PayPal a/c but I seem to recall a credit card was asked for then - may be different now (and conditions might be different in your part of the world).

It is possible to make quick money via the internet. But you won't win the lottery without buying a ticket.

              Hi y'all

I definitely enjoyed the turn-out of replies here. I made an honest opinion based on my experience and I got honest replies in return.

There is no single truth aside from those that we experience. It's nice to hear of others experience and advice.

I'm going to do another 30 day trial based on the techniques i'm hearing. I'm just sorry I wasn't a member of this forum when I started. I could have done some strategy changes. I might have spread to thinly, maybe its the tuition we all pay to learn.

The heck! I can now write the information I've learned and compile it into a neat ebook tonight :-)

Actually, it is possible to make quick and easy money, BUT, not a lot. Don't expect $1000 in 1 day, $100+ in a week? It's possible.

That would involve trading time for money like writing for people, doing graphics, install script for someone.

So it is not entirely true that there is no quick and easy way to make money.

Having said that, always note that though it is "quick and easy", you can either expand on that by leveraging others, or use the money earned from the "quick and easy" method to make more money.

While jumping in and making $2000+ per month is a bit much to expect, $100 in your first month (or first week even) is not all that uncommon or difficult.

It's simply a matter of having a plan and sticking to it.

The problem with being new at it is you may not have a handle on what works and what doesn't.

Just from what you've written in this post it's clear to me that YOU could easily, if you wanted to, make $100 writing articles for folks right here in this forum. The bigger question is are you willing to do it.

Lots of people come online and express an 'interest' in making money. Being interested in doing something is not the same as being committed to getting it done.

While I may not be the average statistic on results, I started in IM 3wks ago and have made almost enough to make my house payment. I maybe spent $120.00 It takes research, a schedule you do not veer from, and completing each task in its entirety. It is tough but dont get discouraged. I definitly suggest getting a mentor to help you. You maybe able to pay them for there knowledge and assistence with your writting skills. Also could you not use one of the pre-paid credit cards. I did get a paypal debit card when I began getting money in paypal but I think you have to sign up for there business account. I didn't have to give them my bank info but you have that option if you want to use your bank account to back up your paypal account.

The "old guys" part is the key. When Allen started the Internet Marketing Warriors, you had to pay. This was in 1998-1999 timeframe. I purchased the membership. It was a while ago, but I think I paid like $37 or $47. It was a lot of article downloads, some software, and ebooks from his buddies. Some of the other guys had been selling information products you saw in ads in the back of a comic books or magazine. The key was they never really promised making money early on. They focused on effective marketing techniques. Some of these techniques were from books nearly 100 years old. They adapted the techniques to work on internet.

So what did I learn? I set up membership websites too. I found some new friends to run JV's with to move them faster. All of the new stuff like AdSense, lenses, blogs, PPC, etc., are just the things to add once you build "YOUR" core product. The basic marketing principles never change. You just adapt them to fit the current place and time.

SO very true. I try to remember this myself AND remind my clients of this when they freak out about "But this guru says their way is the best way now and that other stuff doesn't work any more."

I have built some pretty solid businesses using so-called "dead" marketing strategies.

                          Sort of.

It depends on the person. I made money the very first day I tried to make money online. I can make some money more or less anytime I want to. I'm a pretty good writer, so I can always do work in that area.

But that's only easy for me. Just like I have trouble getting the hang of adwords, not every one can write.

You said it - so I will react.

You have made a statement - But forgot to add "in my opinion/experience"

There have been people come here and say I need to make $500 within the next 2 days desperately.

According to your theory these people have no hope - however, I KNOW that sometimes they do. How do I know? Because I give them the money in exchange for doing some work for me.

So, while I understand that you're trying to keep a 'realistic' perspective on how it's not always as easy as some people think, and that your experience has confirmed that. I would still advise putting a caveat in your statements that "in your opinion" it's the case.

In reality - it is NOT a rule and some people DO make money quickly and easily. Like I said - I KNOW this because sometimes I make it happen for them, so telling people it's not going to happen is just plain wrong.

The main problem with your approach, and it's a problem most newbies fall victim to, is that you didn't focus on one thing.

4 hours a day spread over all those different ideas means you never spent that much time on any one of them.

If you'd spent all your time and effort on one business model you would have had 120 hours invested.

120 hours of actual work (contrary to popular belief, forums and email don't count as work) is plenty of time to write a short report, write a 4 page salesletter, and do some basic promotion.
