Ugh Im not liking Amazon now

For some reason I am starting to trust Amazon less and less. The books being published there seem to all be dim 30 pagers focusing on profit instead of value.

Im thinking of just making a paperback book and going to a real publisher and creating something really valuable.

Im also open to suggestions on more credible places to present books. Not amazon. I think kindle publishing is going to the gutters now..

If you use createspace, also owned by Amazon, you can simply upload a copy of your Kindle book there and offer a 'paperback' version for a higher price under the same Amazon listing.

Visitors will get the impression that you offer a 'Kindle version' of your hard copy book.

If you have a good book and cover you will sell a lot of paperbacks as well as digital copies.

Edit: If you really don't want to use Amazon, many online book sellers, like Barnes and Noble have readers. You can also sell your books through iTunes.

Sure, a lot of people upload junk to amazon kindle but they will eventually get weeded out. A couple bad reviews and those books won't even be ranked.

I think it would be foolish not to use Amazon, considering they are the biggest platform out there by a long shot and the gap is only getting wider.

Its just like, who will take anyone who writes for amazon seriously? Im not talking about the best sellers, but I mean isn't the fact that people are turning to self-publishing a good opportunity to brand yourself through a publishing company?

Less people are begging to publish crap through publishers, so the people who put value and are sincere will have a better chance of getting published.

Look at Tim Ferris. I don't think he went and uploaded himself to Amazon.

Brian Tracy and Tony Robbins definitely don't just click and upload to Amazon.

Now back in the day when Amazon wasn't as congested, I could understand, but there is an issue when you search for a book and the top result is a book that you can know what its about without reading it and is only 29 pages with obviously incentived reviews.

This is a trend I am noticing since eyeing in on e-book publishing.

The legitemite way to make money that I know of is:

1)make an ebook of massive value and outsource the marketing and website to another person. Upload it to clickbank and have affiliates drive traffic.

2)Same as the first way but eliminate the middle man by doing everything yourself

3)consistently writing books and getting them published through paperback. Paying for the marketing etc.

Im very pessimistic about Amazon. Its becoming like google pre-panda.

Im thinking in the future it will get so bad that Amazon will give everyone a spanking and everyone's 6 figure ebook empires will fall.

Look at all the courses on how to game Amazon and get junk written through o-desk. It just seems like a fly by night opportunity. The real valuable gems have to be promoted through already authority blogs etc.

Its not Amazon's fault the authors are selling worthless books. I would just say they lack quality control in what they allow in the market.

I would guess that a lot of the low-quality content comes from people who have read a WSO or two and are trying to make "easy" passive income via KDP. But just like the web has been flooded with low-quality content that is subsequently de-ranked, this kind of crap will go away as Amazon's algorithms get more intelligent. Amazon and Google both want to please their customers, and you may be able to make some quick bucks fooling them for a minute, but only relevant, informative and useful content that people actually want will end up having any staying power.

      I hear what you're saying.

I'm sure Amazon is watching it. They seem to pay a lot of attention to balancing sales with customer satisfaction. But we'll see, right?

You're right on with creating value. There's always a place for value (as so many website owners found after google started cracking down on garbage)

      Ideas/ alternatives:

      > Publish print books
      > Apple
      > Audio
      > Specialty stores (example: if you write books about fishing, sell electronic and print versions direct to/through fishing shops. )
