I have read a few different articles about the 'industry standard' for sales page conversion being at around 2% for PPC traffic. How can this be true? I mean, if it were the case, products would need to be sold for $50+ in order to break even in the MMO niche (based on around $1 per click). I would imagine that $50 is very close to being priced out of the market, given the general consensus on the MMO niche.

Eric Louviere states in one of his WSO's, that if a page has a conversion rate of 2%, that will go up to around 10% if the visitor has opted in to a squeeze page before landing on the sales page.

Any opinions on this?

PPC all depends on your keywords.
So its all about keyword research, if you can find a keyword that is not so much in high demand but that people search for your cost is lower.

Now I will say some big companies pay for ppc and lose money but on there affiliate program and customer loyalty program ect they make money.

Such as dish and direct tv I actually had to stop promoting these because of the high value of ppc on the keywords. I actually stopped doing most ppc all together because I was spending more time on keyword research than it was worth and have better alternatives now.

When I first started building a list on my very first site(many years ago), affiliate sales went up 400%. On top of that, EVERY time I've used a list first, I've had better conversions.

    The Why?

The average buyer needs to see your offer 8 times before they buy your product or service. Some people buy immediately (impulse buyers), but most people need warmed up. They need to know who you are, that they like you, and they need to trust you.

Think of this. When was the last time a new restaurant came to your town? Did you run in and eat there the first day? Some people did. Did you go once you heard your friends and family telling how good it was? Maybe. Did you finally go when you got a coupon in the mail? Maybe again.

But more than likely you waited a few weeks until you knew about it, trusted it was good and 'felt like it', am I right?

    But why?

Because you needed to know, like, and trust the place before your purchase. It's wasn't anything personal, just human nature.

When you build a list, you're the friend who shares the testimonials and recommends a product until someone buys it. And it converts better because you build a relationship with people first and once they know about your product, trust it's a quality product, and 'feel like it'.. they'll likely buy it. Or atleast, MORE people will buy it.

      Hi

Very nice input.. At the moment i have 1k subcribers.. But only made $40 on affiliate commisson (paid). I'm going bored actually..

Could you please more details how to build relation ship with them? I know some people will tell give them value (info or freebie) but it's not enough i guess?

It's more to build a relationship with our friends. Like hang out together, drink together. But how to make it happens with our lists?

That's a very general consensus.... one that really depends on the market, the product/offer/service, etc.

Some of my offers have a 10% conversion on PPC traffic.

    Others only a .2 percent.

Offers range from free trial to over $5K.

CPC is also going to be different for each network... some you can get anywhere from .001 per click to over $5 per click... but really, it doesn't matter what niche it is... even the IM niche... what matters is your ad and targeting.

So the key here is to examine your offerings (products/services)... and then going to market to test... but it isn't all about CPC... you'll understand that once you start testing and seeing conversions.

There are people who would give their left nut for a 2% conversion rate.

I don't think there's an "industry standard." Sounds made up.

Different kinds of traffic will yield different results.

It also matters where you send your traffic.

Are they going to the main front end offer? Presell? Squeeze page? Maybe they received an email swipe? All this stuff matters.

There definitely is no "industry standard." (:

There are too many variables surrounding every individual campaign.
