Where to get quality proofreading for ebook good price?

I have a 23,000 word ebook that could use some good proof reading (grammar spelling rewording). I looked at fiverr but $25 only gets me 11,000 word proofreading.

What's a good price for proof reading and where to find it? What can I expect?

    For a book I haven't chosen for myself I wouldn't read this many words for $50. For proofreading I'd want a great deal more. Is it really this badly paid? I'd want £150 min.

    Look for competitive proofreaders in Odesk. You can always negotiate your price depending on your budget. I'm sure there'll be a contractor somewhere in the world who can do this job well for a reasonable price.

      Sure there is - they just can't read English as well as you need them to be able to.

      For proof reading, you need someone who can 100% understand any and all of the nuances and multiple meanings likely to occur in a literary work. IMO, only someone for whom this is their mother tongue can do this properly. And they would probably want paying properly too.

        Great point!! I'm going to take it one step further, though... There are plenty of native English speakers that mess up affect/effect, to/too, their/there. So, what the OP really should be looking for is a *professional*, not just someone who has been speaking English for their entire life.

        And, yes, a *professional* editor is going to cost you more than the Elance/Odesk crowd. However, you're much better off paying more to get the job done right, rather than paying peanuts to someone who's likely going to leave a bunch of errors -- or, worse, create new ones in his attempt to "fix" your content!

    I agree with Pete. Your budget is too small for any quality editor to do such work. Unfortunately, editing is a classic case of "you get what you pay for."

    But since you asked where you can get quality editing, please see my signature line. I charge $3.95 USD per page for books over 50 pages. A page is defined as 300 words. So for your project of 23,000 words (77 pages), the total cost would be just over $300 USD.

    You can expect similar prices from other quality editors. Good luck!

    You could also look on Warriors For Hire, but it will depend upon your budget.

    Don't forget to look for someone who is native to the country you are targeting the e-book at. Even in English, there are many variations of words and spellings depending upon where you are situated. British English and American English, for example.

    oDesk or eLance, but you'll pay more than $25 for a good one. Good proof reading takes time and talent.

    Or just break up your ebook in 10,000 chunk words, and buy 3 fiverr gigs.

    Most proofreaders charge at least $1 for 100 words. It might be possible to find someone who will want to do it for a lower rate but he or she could make the eBook worse. If I was you, I would test out a couple of different writers. Pick one, break the eBook into different sections, and have the writer proofread one section every week or month, depending on how much you can afford to pay. It will be easier.

    On another note, 23,000 words is a bit long for an eBook, don't you think?

    I sent you a pm but I suspect from your first post that you don't want to spend much, but you expect to get good quality. It won't work like that but good luck. Good proofreaders are worth their weight in gold ( I have had customers tell me that so it is a direct quote.)
