Listing Web Service Prices

I'm in the initial stages of my web design business and I am wondering if it is a good idea to list pricing online. The more I study the competition, the more "it seems" that the higher the quality of design for the site, the more that company does NOT list online pricing. (do not be offended if you do list your prices online, it's simply a recurring observation.) However, listing prices online weeds out individuals who can not afford your services who will therefore not waste your time. What would you guys recommend?

Thank you in advance.

I hate services that do not list their prices. I will always go elsewhere.

I agree. I know there are a lot of 'variables' that could cause different prices, but for heavens sake at least give me a ball park #. We all know what our budget is before we start looking for the service.

You can always do the "starting at XYZ". You don't have to publicly say what XYZ consist of but at least know for yourself. This way when you find out what someone needs and you quote them a price and They say "but I thought your site said it would cost XYZ", then you can have a standard reply for what XYZ gets them so you can help them understand why their cost os higher than XYZ.

I also do not like it, they know this though and know that people who don't care will inquire. If you have great prices list them, be proud of them and let them know your prices are the best because of what you offer.

I agree with the others: no prices makes me go somewhere else because I want to place an order, not haggle prices back and forth in e-mails.

There are times that companies have their own pricing scheme and not enlisting their prices could be effective for them or just part of their strategy.
