Do we need to have a blog and a website?

Hi,

Do we need to have a website and a blog? Some says you need it both, some says all you need to have is a website.

Your thoughts?
#blog #website

It's not necessary, but it is important to have it when you want long term success with you list and affiliate comissions.
Website/blog increases chances for incresed sales.

Nope. Not for Adsense. Just for building web image and for generating more traffic.

    Have em both.

Your home page and pages house your permanent offers while with a blog you make new post, pages, announcement as well as interact with your visitors..

It doesn't cost anything to have em both.

It isn't absolutely mandatory. Neil Patel covered the subject in his latest blog post.

However, it is still an excellent way to expose your brand, knowledge and usefulness.
    I blog! It's worth it.

Hi Aaron - you can see from the responses so far that you won't get the answer you need with such a wide-open question.

And even then, either a blog or a website or both - or even neither - could be the answer!

Until you're specific about what your aims are and the context of your marketing - audience, competition, niche, etc - you'll be left wondering...

So maybe start by focusing on what you're tring to achieve first.

Aaron, a website may have a "blog" page. It is a single page where all your "blog posts" appear. Things such as Services, About Us, Contact Us and Blog are samples of pages. Those daily, weekly or monthly posts that appear inside your Blog page are called posts.

I am explaining these things because I feel that you believe that a website and a blog are two separate entities.

I would say that it really depends on what you want to do with it.

If you want to make a simple sales or squeeze page to promote it offline, via emails, social medias,... than you can make it without blog functionality.

But if you want to establish an authoritative webpage, to be ranked high on Google for generating organic visitors, than having a blog would be a great idea. Specially if you do it on Wordpress basis.

Hi, blog and website are different.

Blog is like a digital magazine. It is usually designed to engage an audience with fresh content – just like a magazine. You educate, share info and build product image through your blog.

Website is like your digital storefront. You sell your product or provide services to your website.

Anyway, thanks for your comment. Appreciate that.

Have a blog separate from your website i.e on it's own url or a sub-domain of your main url. If anything, it acts as redundancy is your main ecommerce/corporate website goes down.

From a marketing perspective, it obviously helps to sell your mission (products) and will drive traffic which in-turn should result help business.

Wordpress is the obvious choice as a blogging platform. If you are going to keep your visitors updated then I would use a blog on my site. You will be able to combine daily or weekly updates with static info pages that way.
It does as previously mentioned depend on your market and what the site or blog is for though.

There's no right or wrong answer to this.

Which one you start with depends on you. Due to the way people read blogs, it's best to create a blog if you have a lot of "newsy" and fresh information to write about on a topic or product, and you should be able to produce new content on a consistent basis.

Websites tend to have more evergreen information and there isn't as much pressure to keep writing new content all the time.

The information on a website is more static and often contains reference information that people would want to bookmark and return from time to time.

Whatever you do, start with one or the other. Don't try to create both because you'll be overwhelmed with trying to market them. Take one thing at a time.

It really boils down to your preference. Weigh the Pros and Cons. I prefer having a website and integrating a Blog in one of its pages. In this way, I don't have to worry updating new information in my site since my blog posts will take care of it.

Thank you for all your comments.

We can use them both. Making your website as your primary "selling" or "store" site. You extend all your service through your site while your blog will build the image you want for your brand.

For me, both are indispensable in your online selling campaign. Blog serves as the bridge in bringing customers to your website.

Most sites I visit nowadays online have a blog (you can find link at bottom of home page). The blog could simply be on a subfolder of the main site. However, if you just like the idea of having only a blog, you shouldn't let that stop you from marketing your products, even if just posting reviews of a product you sell on a blog post and linking to the payment button. Just customize the blog in the way that works best for you.

In my opinion, make both. Having websites will increase your credibility as a company and it's easier to search information about your service from internet than going to your place these days. Blogs also important, you can create articles that has connection with the topic of your sites and expand it more on your blog. Also, you can make a link from your blog to your site to increase the traffics to your site. Internet is a free place for promotion that can net you money many times more than the expensive newspaper and tv ads if you know how to use it.

I, like many others, have moved away from a traditional website to the Wordpress platform.
Our first website was designed by a clever php programmer - trouble was, we couldn't easily add content or change anything without ringing him first. It's fine if you're a web designer.
Wordpress gives you the opportunity to let anyone easily add content - just log in and add what you like - the formatting is pretty much taken care of for you.
You can do like many others, set up a few fixed pages that you treat as your website, including a fixed home page, then set up a 'blog' section for news and articles.
The Wordpress platform is dead easy for anyone to use - there's a plugin for every occasion!
This way you get the SEO benefits of blogs and the benefits of a website in one easy to use package.

Personally, I feel that regardless of the niche
you should have an online presence/platform
that you own, and can edit freely.

    Get both.

Use your blog for more interactivity between
your company and your customers. Use the
website for more concrete content - for
the things that don't change often in your
    company.

Maintaining both gives you the chance to
solidify your brand more (via SERP)

    Question:

How will it hurt you to launch both?

Think of it as an empty lot in your city
that you own. It may sit empty for
months, but you can always expand on
    it. Will it really hurt?

You don't need both, but you do need to figure out how you want to communicate to an audience.

If you want followers (aka a list) and have content you want to share, then a blog is what you want.

If you just want to advertise a product or service, then you just need a website.

Blogs is a great supporter for your products and services' claims. In blog, actual customers who purchased your product or services before can actually post and comment on your blog, giving you the justification that what you are selling is actually effective and proven. Post and comments can't be done by the customer's easily on your site. That's why yuou need blog for you to have more user engagement on your products and services.

    Hi,

Build your list via your blog.

You can link to an external landing page from your blog too that captures
    email addresses.

It all depends what your main purpose is.

Do you just want to use a squeeze page to build your list from the traffic
    that you drive?

Or do you want to do both?

It's all speculative until you've tested to see what works best for your

every single day via my landing pages too.

    What is the difference?

    A blog IS a website.

Just a blog is updated more frequently usually.

You can have a 'blog' section on your website without having 2 separate sites.

Your main page can be a dedicated static page with your information or where you sell your stuff or whatever is relevant.

Then you have a 'blog' page that you frequently update. This is very easy to set up in Wordpress.

I personally have a blog built into my wordpress site. I try to update it as often as possible, as this gives me more relevant pages on my site, with different keywords.

I also use Blogger because it is owned by Google. Whenever I post a new video, I hit the share button and share it to blogger, twitter, facebook, google+, pinterest, and linkedin.

This all adds up to extra traffic to my site.

Nope you don't need both of them... There is such a thing called parasite sites which leveraged correctly can make you money and further does not involve buying domains and hosting... There are plenty of IM's out there that doing this successfully and making a full time income from it... but that's one extreme of the spectrum!

Now being specific regarding inclusion of a blog on a website... I personally use them as a means to attract more traffic to my sites which is based on keyword research... The more content your website has the more traffic it will pull... So not having one for me - means leaving money on the table...

It really depends. Obviously if done right a Website can do nothing but good.

However, some people who are in businesses like Email Marketing and List Building just do not need or find it a necessity. Iam one of those !!

Of course, I do believe I am leaving Money on the Table for making this decision.
