Amazon Associate application denied -- any advice?

I've been a longtime lurker on these boards, but never had a need to post before. I've run into a bit of a problem, however, and am hoping you can give me some advice.

I've been working on a shopping comparison and price tracking website called PriceWombat: Home – PriceWombat

I applied for the Amazon Associates program in early January and today received an email saying:

Hello,

Thank you for applying for the Associate program. Upon review, were unable to accept your application. A part of our criteria is that your site has to be established with enough unique content. We rejected your application due to one or more of the following reasons.

- Lack of content which is original and beneficial to your visitors
- Pages that are mainly empty when advertisement content is removed websites containing mostly images, videos, or Flash animations will not be approved

Unfortunately, we arent able to review an application once its been rejected. If your website has been further developed and now contains appropriate content, youre welcome to submit another application by using the following URL:

http://affiliate-program.amazon.com/gp/associates/join

Thank you for your interest in Amazon.com Associates.
I was very surprised to have my application denied, since three very similar websites are in the Amazon Associates program:

CamelCamelCamel
Hukkster
Nifti

A shopping comparison website depends on affiliate revenue, so I need to figure out what I should do before reapplying so that I can be approved.

Any advice you might have would be greatly appreciated.

You can use similar sites with Amazon but you can`t apply with these sites. As soon as you have been accepted you can start building this kind of sites. To get accepted buy a domain, get some articles (you can even use Spin Rewriter or similar with one-click-spin) and apply. Within an hour or two you have a good looking site and have applied to use Amazon. In a few days you will get a response that you have been accepted. As soon as the site is done you can even start sending the traffic to Amazon and it makes the acceptance even easier for you. Easy!

    Cheers

I would highly recommend against article spinning. The letter said "original content," articles that have been spun are in no way original - the words have just been moved around. Plus, spun articles read like crap.

Take your time to make a quality website that you can be proud of. Invest in original content. Keep the content fresh and current. This will not only help you get accepted to Amazon's associate program, but it'll help you get visitors to your site.

Just say NO to article spinning!

I suggested it to get accepted asap. I didn`t say it would convert well. I suggested it cause it works and the creator of this thread had problems getting accepted. This method guarantees to get accepted and after that you can create high and low quality sites as many as you like. Amazon is a numbers game.

        Cheers

I have a suggestion, don't try again. Is it really worth 4.5 percent or whatever it is now.
Why not hop over to jvzoo and warriorplus and find the top products selling and promote those. You keep it in the family that way and earn a heck of alot more.

First of all, it's 6% after the 7th product sold, and it can go up to 8.5%

Second of all, Amazon has higher conversion rates that can justify the smaller commissions offered.

If you really want to get approved open a blogspot blog write a few posts (original of course) and apply using that. I was approved the same day of course that was a few years ago so they may have tightened things up a bit since then.

I'd seriously just consider using the feedback from Amazon to put up some great original content, then apply in other marketplaces.
Amazon's great but they're not the 'be all and end all'. Plenty of marketplaces with tons to offer out there, and without the complicated and ever-changing terms of service. With the benefit of often higher commissions.

It seems Amazon have already advised as to why your application has been denied -

We rejected your application due to one or more of the following reasons.

    - Lack of content which is original and beneficial to your visitors
    - Pages that are mainly empty when advertisement content is removed websites containing mostly images, videos, or Flash animations will not be approved
It looks like they want some original useful content. So all you have to do it give them what they want. They've said you can submit a new application once you've fixed the problem, so I'm not sure what it is you need help with?

I was confused because of the reasons they gave:

      - Lack of content which is original and beneficial to your visitors
      - Pages that are mainly empty when advertisement content is removed websites containing mostly images, videos, or Flash animations will not be approved
One of the reasons they gave for the denial is that pages are "empty" when ads are removed, but there are no ads on my website, not a single one.

The second reason is "lack of content which is original," which was confusing to me because the website is a shopping comparison website, which means that I get data from retailers and use it to help people out when shopping. The content is extremely "beneficial" to visitors, but I supposed it's not technically "original" since the data comes from the retailers (although the presentation of the data is original).

I still don't think that I should have been denied, especially since there are three other similar websites that are Amazon Associates, but I'm going to take all of you guys' advice and put a bunch of articles/content on the website. It's a total waste, because people aren't going to be using the site because of articles or what not on it (they'll be using it because of the shopping comparison and price tracking service it provides), but I guess I'll just do whatever I have to in order to make Amazon happy

All those product images are ads, remove them and your page is in fact empty.

I haven't tried reapplying yet. Before I do, I plan on adding a blog and articles to the website, which will hopefully appease them.

Good advice, that's what I plan on doing before I reapply.

At a cursory glance, it may look like they are ads, but they are not. The website is a price tracking and notification website. Click on one of the images and it gives you useful information on the pricing history, as well as a way to receive email or SMS alerts when the price drops below an amount you enter. It's not an ad, it's a service.

They seem to have got a bit more strict, when i applied my website was a domain with an image and no text and I still got approved. I'd suggest putting an informational site up first with 10 informative articles relating to your niche

    Here's an example

    http://authorityzonedemos.com/triathlon/

Something like this but obviously without the Amazon Links or plugins.

Once you have been approved you can set up as many sites as you like that don't need subsequent approval

My advice will be very simple and straightforward.

    Make changes to your site.

Since Amazon wants to see more content, do exactly what they said.

A lot of marketers - especially those doing SEO - come into this simply wanting to make more money without considering what their site visitors aka prospects will benefit if they are to buy from them.

4 Critical Points To Take Note Of Besides Just Putting Banners, Product Images And Payment Links:

    1. What is your site all about?

    2. Who is it for?

    3. And what do your prospects get if they are to buy from you?

    4. Why should they buy from you instead of your competitors?

To answer these 4 questions, you might want to write 4-5 500-600 word articles addressing these questions very clearly as a way to presell them before getting them to click on the link.

Learn to look at your site from their perspective rather than yours.

If you have to, look at your competitors sites - the ones that got to the top of the Google.

Read the content, take note of their good selling points and even comments from readers if they have and then used them to your advantage.

        Great to hear that,

Content is the main thing networks want to see before accepting you.

Try moving your blog post to under the products. Having just text above the fold will likely to cause bounce rates to increase.
