Question on Stats for open rates

I am kind of new at IM and I just started a campaign. I have the funnel all set up but I received some weird stats that I was wondering is the norm.

I received 200 clicks from a swap and had a 80 people sign up which is about 40% so it is OK. The problem is this - hardly anyone downloaded the free report. I checked the links and everything works but out of 80 people like 6 downloaded the free report. To me that sound fishy.

Another thing is that I am on an autoresponder and set up about 7 emails to go out roughly every other day. Your normal auto responder emails like thank you email, don't forget bonus email, and some content email. I checked the stats and like only 3 -7 people opened up each one. One email only 1 person opened.

Is that normal for an open rate and downloads of free reports?

Thanks,
Malik

That is NOT normal, and the most likely explanation is that your emails are going directly to people's spam folders.

Open up email account at gmail, yahoo and hotmail and send your emails to those accounts and see if they get marked as spam. If so you need to do some rewriting to cut down on spam trigger words and phrases.

    Malik,

Results can, will and do differ wildly depending on all sorts of circumstancces which are largely outside your control - for example you can't "force" people do download your stuff after they have opted-in nor ope/read/take action on your emails.

After you have made things as inticing as you can to have them subscribe, after that it's dowm to the individual pretty much.

Overall - numbers game. Get traffic to your squeeze page/opt-in box and they will come. Make your broadcasts/follow-ups interesting/relevant/ and they'll read. Not in the same numbers/percentages each time however - another fluctuating factor is how many of your subscribers will be interested enough in the subject/content of the email to open it and do something with it.

Have you done other swaps and had different (i.e. more positive) results.

Suggest keeping at it (swaps are a great way to build your list), see what works and what doesn't and concentrate on the former.

My open rate for the first email is currently 44%, but it's still not much.

Less than 10% open rate is very low, and you can assume that most of your emails went to the spam folder of the recipients. Another explanation can be that most of your subscribers entered their junk email address, and they haven't checked your email yet.

Open rates are tricky... I don't even really look at them any more. I'm more concerned about the EPC I get from the e-mails I send. (This is coming from someone who has built a list of over 90K + people...)

As far as the whole download your report thing... You're probably going to get about 1-2% response rate on anything you show your prospects after they opt-in. So I'd send them directly to an offer page but at the top of the page I'd have a message letting them know they should check their e-mail later for the download.

Rates are different anywhere, but I would really be suspect to those numbers. I have caught a few sellers using bots for selling solo ads.

It's not hard to get a ubot built to login to email accounts click a link and enter information.

Look at the emails that signed up is there a pattern, like john112 elsi243 joanne356 ect. That is usually how you can tell.

Reasons that you might think of:

      1. Not all people that signed up didn't get the email . Check your software sending feature.
      2. They end up in spam folder and the subscribers didn't think of checking their spam folder. You need to educate them to check in spam folder too. There are many reasons the email might end up in junk folder.
      3. They lost interest so didn't bother to click on the link to confirm their subscription.
      4. IF IT IS NOT DOUBLE OPT-IN Subscription, then bots can enter junk email. Check your subscribers email format. Junk emails looks like vfgtr54@...com
      5. After clicking the confirmation they don;'t know how to download the PDF. May be the process is different or new to it.

You are saying only 6 people downloaded it out of 80 subscriptions. If your opening rate stats are correct, it is reflecting lack of interest to read your email.

Search on Google for - 'improving email opening rate. You will find things like using good subject lines, constant From name, brand name etc etc.

      Good luck!

Great information from everyone. I thank you for taking the time out to respond.

-I did think about the spam issue and when I checked the email in get response spam index it was very low. I did add a check your spam folder and white list my name in the thank you page.

    - I am thinking instead of letting them download the report from the thank you page that I would give the spam and white list information and tell them to check there email. I think I might get a better % on open rates if I try that.

As for bots and things of that nature, most of the email names are regular names but that is what I worry about the most with solo's

I also think the subject lines are very important to get people to open and will work on that also.

I am using Solos to get a good tweaking of everything then I think I am going to hit up FB for more traffic.

    Thanks again,
    Malik
