Creating a List Before Launching a Website

Hey guys, I've recently heard that many companies are building their email lists before they actually launch their website. How do you do that? I mean how can you convince people that your site will solve a particular problem, when you don't have anything for them yet? People sign up for newsletters when they see that there is some valuable information on the page, and they want more of it. Please explain me! Thank you.

They're probably doing a pre-launch where they are giving away a report or video related to the niche. People sign up for the freebie.

Is that the only way? To give a freebie?

You can also set up reverse optin pages that give people free info. To get the final page of the complete series, they have to opt in.

You convince them your newsletter will help them.

I did this before I launched my first natural health website in 1998. I took out ad space on niche newsletters and had them sign up by sending an email to my appropriate aweber email at that time (which was not double opt in at that time), which got them on the list, as I remember.

You have to offer something of value that will get them to give you an email address.

Just watch out for freebie seekers that will take your content and then unsubscribe. This is not uncommon in the world of internet marketing.
