If I link to the amazon homepage as someone buys any product on the website within 24 hours, will I get the commission?

The reason I ask this is because I have linked to the homepage, clicked on a product and my amazon associates tag is not in the url of the product.....

thanks

If your affiliate id is not in the link then you can not be credited for the sales. You can create your affiliate link to any amazon page. Just Click on the link "links and banners" and you will see "link to any page" from the drop down menus. Click on it and fill in the appropriate dashes and create your affiliate links to any page even the homepage.

that's exactly what I did. I created the link to the homepage and my ID is in that link. However the actual products that I click on do not contain the ID...

I have double checked on one of my other amazon websites and I have seen that the products I direct link to contain my associated tag. However other products on the site which I still get commission for do not contain the tags.

        Is this correct then?

Yes, to the best of my knowledge, this is correct. Your ID will show up on the initial URL, but then Amazon will just "remember" it for 24 hours- even if a user closes the site and comes back to it within 24 hours (assuming they did not clear cookies or click through another affiliate link in the meantime.)

Yes, the link with your affiliate ID sets a cookie. Other links do not have your ID because they are not links you created.

However, if the buyer has an active cookie set by a link with your Affiliate ID, then you will get affiliate credit for any sales up to 24 hrs.

Linking to a main page, a search page or review page will set the cookie even though no specifc product is linked. Once the user is on Amazon other links will not have your ID but the sales will be linked using the cookie on the buyer's machine.
