What should I promote with my PR9 site?

I recently acquired a PR 9 site (verified) and intended to use it in my blog network to help increase the rank of a financial money site. But in my first few articles I am noticing this site is ranking fast, and without any backlinking at all. In fact the site had no backlinks to speak of when I bought it.

Why it was a PR 9? No idea. Last I saw from waybackmachine it just redirected to a foreign university. Before that it had some obscure incoherent content.

But the articles I added recently are being ranked, often times on the first page. I am not even using tags on these blog posts!

So now I am thinking that the PR 9 should be a money site itself.

I am starting to wonder if I could rank any keyword if I optimized it better and directed some high quality backlinks to it.

Google obviously gives favor to high PR sites, even those with no backlinks at all like mine. Will it downgrade it someday? Who knows. But I am trying to keep it somewhat consistent to what it was before by at least linking to the university that once owned it (presumably). And also copied the exact text that used to be on the site before that years ago and used it as the first few posts.

I am thinking of having an article written once a month about the university in question, just to make it look to goog that I am still "associated" with it somehow... even though I won't directly state that I am.

Anyhoo, just looking for a few opinions on what to do with it, money wise. Like I said I am leaning toward financial/gold, but want to really look at my options.

The site name has no real meaning that I am aware of btw. My tag line is the same as it was before the redirect to the university site, which was just meaningless and weird.

Probably why no one else bid for it and I got it cheap. It was just one of many sites I won in auction and figured what the heck maybe it will be a decent backlink to my gold site. I thought it was strange too but I keep checking at Fake PageRank Checker and Google PageRank Checker - Check Google page rank instantly and it keeps checking out.

The reason why nobody else bid for the site was that they did not think it was genuine. The 301 re-direct trick for acquiring a false PR is well known. There are lots of PR7-10 sites who had acquired this PR in this manner. This has completely messed up the link sales market. You will be shot down by nasty comments the moment you put it up for sale in Flippa.

Most likely the Page Rank is not genuine. 301 redirect is a common method used by scammers to fake the page rank of a website.

I think it is temporary. You should start making money from it if it's articles ranking well. Register with ad-sense and publish quality content and earn money before you loose your PR and ranking too. That is the way I can see it.

      Possibly worth developing... definitely fake.

But here is a trick I did a couple years ago, that someone may actually want to test out again. I did this on 3 different domains.

I pointed 3 domains to various high PR sites.

Of course they inherited the fake PR number.

They then can drop to 0 on their own within a matter of days.

      But...

Then I tried this... I pre-populated a couple niche blogs locally. Moved them over to those domains. Next PR update they were PR 2, 3, and another 2 or a 1 I forget.

      No backlinks, etc...

So anyone feels like testing that, since I let them expire later anyway... I say give it a shot.

Although I haven't really paid much attention to PR in a few years. Such a small element in the overall ranking equation. But if you can get that trick to work these days, you could probably flip a lot of PR1,2,3 sites on flippa anytime.

Worth a shot for those that still have time to experiment.

No that isn't why... it plain and simply isn't a PR9 domain.

Sounds like it had links that were temporary or something.
I got a PR5 that then slipped to PR4. But, it sounds a bit like your domain.
Maybe best to do a permanent re-direct to your own site.

Or, yeah, make it into a blog and sell it on Flippa!
You could add a load of good content with your links, then sell it on Flippa.

Then, you might get the best of both worlds....?

I bought it knowing full well it could be a scam. But the fake and other PR checkers say it is real. Who would point a "real" PR 9 site a worthless site just to make a few bucks on Godaddy auctions? It was just an expired domain I bid on, no one was advertising it.

Here's the best I can do as to a screenshot without giving away the site URL completely:

Could be? Honestly, there should be no doubt whatsoever that any site with a PR9 page for sale (unless it costs tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars) is a complete fake.

But the fake and other PR checkers say it is real.
Just about all of those PR checkers are completely useless when it comes to detecting invalid PR.

The best tools out there are back link checkers and a good dose of commonsense.

Who would point a "real" PR 9 site a worthless site just to make a few bucks on Godaddy auctions?
You misunderstand the redirection. It is the worthless site that redirects to a high PR page and once the PR is gained, the redirect is removed.

This is a very common technique that people use to sell links or flip domains. Buyer beware.

Bottom line, if it seems to good to be true...........

I agree that the pagerank shows as 9 and was probably acquired using a 301 redirect.
I'm also sure it's page rank will vanish on the next update.

What I'd like to know is this: Could this site really have the power of PR9 whilst it lasts?
Does it fool Google or does Google just see the missing back links?
Defacto says its ranking articles on first page.
Or, does Google see right through it and the articles he's getting ranked for just happen to be for low competition keywords?

I used a PR 3 domain to get a relatively new site to a PR 3. I understand how the 301 redirect works in that capacity, when you direct the real PR site to a site with lower PR. But I would hope you cannot just 301 a PR 0 domain to a real PR 9 site to fool google that easily. Not to mention fool all the PR checkers out there.

I am having a financial article written right now, with a mid level competition (IMO) search phrase, and will direct some quality backlinks to it to see if it ranks.

Defacto, I think you are right! What would be the point of doing a 301 from a PR9 site to your domain?

How are you going to use it, though?
        1. 301 to your own site?
        2. Set-up a blog (and, we can all become guest authors)? ;-)

Once again, another person looking for a short cut. Even if you have a site with a PR9 that will be around for awhile, if you have no market, market experience, or product that is compatible with that rank, I really don't see where it will help you.

For example, if you had an online music publishing business that you were working for a few years and you had EXPERIENCE in that market and the PR9 site you purchased was a site in that market, I'd say fine, at least you can work with that for awhile. But, just randomly acquiring a site like that without a clear set of objectives congruent with a business model ahead of time is not smart.

One other thing I would like to say is that this marketing plan (if you could call it that) is predicated on the idea that your whole business is online, which is difficult. You should not focus all of your efforts on one marketing vehicle. It is OK to do that if you are just going to make quick money in markets and digital products online you can get in and out of, but it has been my experience that most people will not make significant money that way, or at least money that you can bank on for years to come. (Remember, I said MOST PEOPLE. Yes, there are exceptions, but few.)

Anyway, just my thoughts. I wish you well, my friend.

    God Bless!

The original reason for me buying the fake pr 9 site (along with other sites) was to support my main money site that earned me $10,125 since January so far. I made the top 10 affiliates last month for this company so while I am still a newbie in many respects my site is earning.

That said I will probably take off my backlinks on the PR 9 site now that I am convinced its PR is fake. So I do want to thank all of you that contributed to this thread.

Most website with no contents but have high pagerank is getting fake pagerank because they redirected the domain to a high pagerank site such as a university website (in your case). Try to check your pagerank on SEOMastering (i believe someone provided the link on this thread). If it is fake PR, then it will drop one day.
