Now I'm really confused...

I know all about blogs. Blog carnivals, feeder blogs, meshup blogs...etc...

But...

What are Fake Blogs?

I went to about.com to read an extended article that stabbed at explaining what fake blogs were. And now, as a result, I am really confused.

How are they implemented as a marketing tool?

A "fake blog" are the ones that you see like

      www.someonesnamegetsmoney.com

You can put just about any name in there:

      Tom
      Jeremy
      Gary
      Barry...

Whatever name and you will find a site made by someone claiming that they made a ton of loot posting links on Google or whatever. They set the blogs up like that to try to add to the legitimacy of "If I can do it as a laid off carpenter anyone can do it"

It is also popular in the weight loss niche as well...

        Oh...k..

Looks like to me like that would be concidered deceptive(lying) marketing. Possibly bordering on illegal activity.

In any case...it has no place in my marketing plans. Lifes stressful enough even without the BS. Know what I mean.

Looking like a blog, it adds to the impression of the person just sharing their experience. Then they add a bunch of fake blog comments so it looks like a bunch of other people are having the same success..

This forum is full of people who market and do reviews via blogs - so is a 'fake' blog really any different? nope - the problem is with all the fake comments.

But heck, this forum also has it's share of members who've faked testimonials on their sites, as well a ton of people who write fake reviews - all of which are no different then these 'flogs' in my opinion.
