Hi Warriors,

I am going to launch a wordpress website and looking out for a better hosting service company. My requirements:- a handful number of plugins, pictures. Which company would give the best service?

Thanks in advance.

Robert!!!

  • I'm on HostGator right now and it seems to be getting slower and slower. I'll be moving to interserver (interserver.net) sometime when I have the time to mess with it.

    Hey Robert,

What you're asking is a fairly popular question here on the forum, and the answer is usually the same.

When it comes to hosting, the words 'best" and "cheap" don't usually go together very well.

The good news is, you have a lot of choice. The bad new is, the majority of hosts aren't very reliable, nor do they have very good customer service.

For me, I use WPEngine. Sure, they cost a lot but I know that I'll get quality WordPress hosting and it's one less thing I have to worry about.

If you're looking for a cheaper option, I'd recommend A Small Orange.

One thing I can't stress enough, stay away from the big industry names like "GoDaddy" or "HostGator", a lot of people will disagree with that comment but I've never had a good experience with them.

    Hope this helps

    - Joe,

I chose entrepreneurship over further education despite being laughed at by my friends and family..

I recently hit the "RESTART" button on my life, read my personal blog to find out how I did it :)

I totally agree, best and cheap don't mix well
Besides, you really don't want to get cheap, when your complete business relies on this.

I can suggest you ipage as a hosting company. Then install wordpres and you can use seo by yoast as a plugin for seo purposes. Also install sitemap plugin, w3 total cache plugin, si captcha plugin, rss plugin.

I have just moved from iPage to d9 Hosting because ticket support at iPage is a joke, speeds are very slow (shared hosting) and php access is unuseable.
      d9Hosting has been fab!

Were you wanting suggestions of "must have" plugins too?

Word on the street is wpengine is the bomb. However I've used Bluehost for years and never had a problem (knock on wood).
Intuitive, 1 button wordpress install, 24/7 online support.

I can highly recommend D9 Hosting to you. I've been using them for almost 4 years now and I've NEVER had any problems with them - whatsoever.

Their service is awesome and their prices are affordable.

    Hope that helps

Use hosting service from leapwebhosting.com, or a2hosting.com or hostgator.com.
These companies are quality and their plans are good for hosting Wordpress blogs with.

WP Engine is fantastic if you have the money/vision for it. You have professionals looking after your site, ensuring it is secure, backed-up, and runs blindingly fast. So when I say 'vision', I mean it is worth looking into if you are committed to developing and succeeding with one flagship site.

If you are just noodling around a bit or have a bunch of Wordpress sites, then there is a range of decent hosts out there. FWIW, I've used and like StableHost.

I would recommend Crocweb which was my hosting service of choice until my mentor advised me to switch to D9, I promised myself that if this mentor told me to jump off a bridge then so be it, no more tweaking their advice to my failing tastes.

Both are great services run by dedicated and passionate people.

by the way If John get to hear of this then hopefully he will have the decency to choose a low bridge

I have the personal plan with WPengine for my blog. It is rapid, and the features (such as staging area) are fantastic. That's $29 a month.

All my other sites are on Bluehost shared. To get the most out of shared hosting, you will need to make sure your site is tight and optimized for speed (with plugins/cloudflare free this can be achieved). I paid $180 for 3 years of hosting, I have never had a problem.

I use hostgator because I can call them and drill them with questions.

This is how I learned about cpanel and such was from asking them a gazillion questions.

I started small now I have VPS server. The thing I like about the VPS plan is if you have any concerns you can call 24/7 and they usually do everything for do everything for me.

It's sad how many forget (or never knew) about the issues of EIG from 2013:

    - http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...s-traffic.html
    - http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...-all-down.html
    - http://www.warriorforum.com/internet...hostgator.html
    - http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...-want-out.html
    - http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...-hour-now.html

    Bluehost = Hostgator = same company = EIG = 50+ other brands

Those that claim to have never had problems are simply not paying attention to their sites. The damage done has been catastrophic to many website owners.

Bluehost. They are my no. 1. Maybe a bit more expensive than others, but very good support and reliable servers.

How can you say that? EVERY site was down MULTIPLE times last year. The entire datacenter was down for the count.

And Hostgator is not the same Hostgator anymore. A new company bought it out in June 2012, so anything that happened before that is null and void. "Hostgator" is just a brand now, and exists in name only. The actual host is EIG.

Very interesting replies, but I will give you a real advice.

It does not matter really who you working with. They all offer the same service. Now the hosting you want to take is the one you can afford, and allows you to run your website without restrictions.

Look for a hosting company that will offer you at least the minimums to work:
    - cpanel (the easiest one) or plesk (more tech) avoid proprietary panels as they will probably limited the functions you can do.
    - plenty of space (we are not in 1999 a video can be up to 200mb)
    - support, try their support system over email, phone, live talk.
    - upgrade options, make sure you can upgrade your account to accommodate more traffic. You don't want to be stuck with something you can't upgrade.
    - avoid WP engine, is just over paying for regular hosting
    - avoid shared hosting, get a small business one, a few bucks more for more security

Long story short. Do your due diligence and research what hosting company you think would work great for you. Give them a try, many have a 30 day money back guarantee.

      Baloney.

Something as simple as CloudLinux vs BetterLinux (not better) vs plain CentOS matters.
Or Apache 2.2 vs. Apache 2.4 vs. nginx vs. LiteSpeed.
And there's many more factors here that differentiate performance.
Better technology ones cost more because of licensing costs.
Companies like EIG cut corners, skimp on enterprise-grade software, and thus perform like crap.
Beyond the tech, there's also concepts like overloading servers.

Things are NOT the same everywhere. Not ever close. To say that all hosts are the same is naive, to say the least.

It does matter when you are tech savvy, for an average joe yo think they understand the difference between apache 2.2 and apache 2.4? do you think the average joe care that you using water cooling or that your servers uses only solar power?

For the average joe, the hosting service is all the same.

I must say one thing here, Every hosting company can have the technical issues. However, a big giant like Hostgator, You can at-least imagine top class support with any critical issues at their or your own end.

WP Engine hosting is very very costly in comparison with pricing of conventional hosting companies. However, I can certainly recommend a service like WP Engine to a Newbie, as they have customized their service to support all aspects of WordPress.
Just asking because sometimes my logic does not seem on par with the rest of the world. You say you host with Hostgator for 6 year, and then you recommend WP engine to a newbie? Why will you not recommend a newbie to use something more friendlier like hostgaotr or even godaddy?

I've been on Hostgator for 7+ years now. Never had an issue with them.

One thing I don't understand is why people don't start with a reliable, cheaper option and then if their traffic builds, switch to a service like WPEngine.

What are the disadvantages of this strategy?

After the infamous "Host Merging" I was considering switching from HostGator.

But, to be honest, I haven't encountered problems enough to warrant a switch.

Truth is - I'm too lazy to seek a worthwhile alternative.

I think if you want cheap hosting, HostGator is solid enough.

Though, as an IT nerd, I don't appreciate the centralization of help desk support.
