Open Office file won't convert to PDF, help!

Hi guys,

I've been exporting open office files as pdf for a long time now, and I never had any problem, until now..

I was converting an open office file into pdf format, but it's always turning out to be an unknown file instead of a pdf.

Anyone encountering the same issue? Would appreciate any help.

Thanks a lot,
Michael

I use OpenOffice just about everyday, haven't had that problem yet.

I'd try restarting your computer, and if that doesn't work, a reinstall of OpenOffice should fix it.

Do you use a PC or a Mac? I was using open office on my mac, but found it a bit 'woolley', so I found a 'fork' of it. It's called NeoOffice. Give that a go if you're using a Mac. It works exactly the same, but seems more robust.

    Michael,
do you know what's changed between when it worked to when it didn't work? Somewhere in those changes probably lies the answer. New software, printer driver, etc.

While Reinstalling is usually the quickest way - if there are still problems afterward I recommend:

    a) checking to see if other pdf utilities are having the same problem (indicates a system level issue or something in the printing subsystem.

    b) run a virus/trojan/spyware scan from another system or from an online system like the one from trendmicro

    c) Check what programs are associated with .pdf extension and see if there's some corruption there.

    good luck!

    best,

Remove and re-install the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader. That usually fixes the problem.

You might have to do a complete uninstall first, then followed by a reInstall of Open Office. Recently, all of a sudden, my Photoshop's "File, Save As" options suddenly became limited as to the types of files I could save my images to. GIF, PNG and some others were missing....
Those options just sort of "disappeared" from the drop down selection list. I believe it to be something related to the registry....
Oh, don't forget to scan for viruses, trojans, or malware to be absolutely certain.

Does it do this with all files, or this file? You could save the file as .doc, open in word, save as... with a different name and import it back into OO. This would force reformatting and potentially correct the corruption that may be causing your problem.

If it does it with all files, then go the reinstall route.
