Best Video Plugin for Wordpress

Hi guys,

Quick question - whats the best video embedding plugin for Wordpress in your opinion?

    Need a bit more information about what you actually want.

    Embed which videos? Your own hosted or youtube or something else?

    I used to use all sorts of simple plugins to embed videos that are on YouTube and Amazon S3.

    But then... I used Wistia.

    Wistia is more than a plugin though. They host, optimize and offer INCREDIBLE customization options to your videos that you won't get anywhere else.

    Give it a shot. You won't be disappointed.

    I always prefer to use a video sharing site (youtube, vimeo etc...).

    There tend to be issues with videos on different platforms and browsers. For example, Apple stopped supporting Flash a few years ago, so Flash presentations will throw an error if a visitor hits a Flash site on a Mac, Iphone or ipad...

    If you upload the video to Youtube and simply embed it, Youtube will handle all of the compatibility issues.

    Note: if you are worried about your video appearing in the Youtube search (for some reason) you can upload it as "private". It will still be accessible but it won't go in the Youtube index.

    To answer OP question.

    There is different options for a WordPress Video Plugin. It all the depends on the futures you are looking for. Some players don't allow local videos, some players do, some players allows you to ad tracking codes, some others don't.

    In addition, what I might find to be great it might not be same for you. Take Chris link for example. After reviewing no one in their right mind will use this service, with just a little research you can find better service for cheaper.

    So to really answer your question, the best option would be the one that would fill your needs.

    For a few years I used TrafficPlayer and thought that's the best it can get but I found a few weeks ago a player which does all that and a bit more.

    Include Social sharing in the video, include an optin and you can customize the player very much like you want. It plays YT or any other video.

    Google for "Hero Caster".

    It's not available yet, I got a Beta version, so I guess you have to signup to a waiting list.

    Oh, and it was a cheap plugin, differently to the others I got

      Recently went thru looking at lots of these and testing them. A lot of these players/plugins don't work on all the platforms, especially mobile.

      Even when I tested the Flowplayer one...I had issues with it playing on my Kindle. Yeah, I know there are ways to fix that on my Kindle, but am I supposed to expect my customers to go thru some detailed steps to get their videos to play?

      JWPlayer worked the best for me. They have a free plugin, but it's branded with their logo. You can buy a $97/yr license to remove it.

      Also look at Custom Video Player 2.0...there are WSO's for it. Of all the players I tested, I felt it was the smoothest and it worked on every device I tested it on...and it was a few. It's also got lots of "bells and whistles"...really cutting edge stuff for list building and marketing.

      I was THIS close to buying this plugin...except it wouldn't play on my Kindle and had lots of issues in the Safari browser when trying to view the videos on my Mac.

        I had some issues at the beginning but they updated the plugin and now it works fine.

        Never used Safari and can't tell anything about the browser but not playing in Kindle is a bit funny.

        Can you assist regular YT videos? If so it should work IMO as it streams from there.

        Can maybe be an issue if you embed over HTML or shortcode.

        What got me was the features I mentioned to catch leads and let them share the video from inside the video, and it's simplicity. I think that's missing in Traffic Player so that's why I got it.

        Was only $27 bucks, fairly cheap if you look at the other player's.

          Okay...that's good to hear.

          They had me SOLD...with my finger on the BUY Button...then I checked the Demo and had issues with Safari. I will find the email and checkout the sales page again.

    In my experience, it is better just to use the plain old YouTube embed code.

    As I found out recently (with leadPlayer), these things can work fine one day, then be totally broke the next day.

      I just think that you loose a lot of traffic to Youtube using their raw embed code and you can't fetch leads or benefit from the visitors in any other way.

      There are a lot of tricks to change the way the videos look like using some of Googles tips here https://developers.google.com/youtube/player_parameters if you don't like to buy any tool

    I came to the realization last year that all WordPress video plugins are terrible.
    Get a standalone app for streaming from your own servers.

    Note that Youtube/etc embedding is still fine in WP.

    If you want to collect leads, I think leadplayer.com is a good option. If you just want to embed videos, I would recommend embedding youtube videos directly.
