You will need a website - domain and hosting.
If you use wordpress then you can create a landing page using a plugin. I show you how to here:

Wordpress is the de facto standard tool. An easy way to get up and running fast with WP , or almost any software is to subscribe to Lynda.com for a period of time. Their online video instruction is superb for every title

If you do not have a site and want to start driving traffic to an offer while you learn check out 90second squeeze page

Can you use it to make sales pages?

What's the difference between using 90second and any other way? I mean, why is it free?

Focus LPO or Landing Page Optimization to create your pages. Make sure it is hands on. Work with optimizing body copy. Also, try different images. I have found certain colors sell more.

if you use a software called lead pages, you don't need to worry about hosting. I do still suggest getting a domain, but they look great, are easy to make landing pages with and convert very well

I'd recommend a tool like OptimizePress that makes creating landing pages as easy as falling off a log.

I got that when I first started and have never looked back since.

because Landing pages are so basic, I code mine natively in HTML, and it really doesn't take very much to do this, I really wouldn't even call it coding, just look for a good HTML Editor and some tutorials online.

LeadPages is the way to go.

"Done For You Templates" - No need to mess around with coding & they will even host it for you on their servers (They use the Google Servers, great for when you send mass traffic).

    $37/month or $297/year - no domains/hosting required.

I would use instabuilder. For $77 you get a developer's license, and it has a ton of great features.

There are free squeeze pag builders out there, but they may not have as many features as a paid one

If you are serious about starting out online, then the least you need is some cheap, shared hosting.

Then grab yourself a free WordPress theme if money is tight, and create your landing page with some of the ideas above.

HOWEVER. While it's great saying you want to make money online, and you want to create a landing page, have you asked yourself WHY you want to do this, WHAT value you are going to provide, and HOW you are going to provide that value.

If you don't know the answers, then you are pissing in the wind.

A landing page is simply a web page where people come to learn about an offer. It can be a paid offer, or a free offer in exchange for an email address (sometimes called a squeeze page). Usually you need a Domain and Hosting to get a site for people to visit. I would recommend Hostgator for the hosting, and Dynadot for the domain.

Creating a landing page is very simple--but creating one that converts well is quite an art. You might want to study a little copywriting or pay a copywriter to help you craft the right message for your landing page.

I would recommend Wordpress for your site, unless you are very proficient with HTML or plan on paying someone to maintain your site.

    I hope this helps.

If you absolutely can't be bothered to part with the $5 - $10 per month for a simple website (there are WP landing page plugins up the wazoo) then there is little chance you will ever make much money online. IMHO.

      Imaan,

you need domain + hosting + autoresponder

for the page itself, you can have someone do it for you,
or use template (& edit it), or use a tool like optimizepress
      which has pre-made templates.

C'mon, Imann has two posts and has been on the forum for a few weeks. He probably doesn't even know what a landing page is, never mind where to get one.

I've been away from IM for over 3 years. I have, just today, tried to upload a web page. I couldn't find the darned c-panel, never mind know what to do with it once I did. I have simply forgotten how it all works. What's easy for some is a nightmare for others. Plus, I have no idea about Wordpress or how to use it. Reading and studying time I think, for both me and Imann!

      Katie,

either learning time or just hire it up.
important is to get it done, then you
      just send traffic to it.

I use optimize press for creating landing pages without needing a designer to do it. However when it comes to advanced landing pages, it is best to develop a custom one with proper info, lead form and call to action.

    1. Set up web hosting. In order to create a landing page, you'll need to have a web hosting service, a server that will keep all your data available and let your pages be accessible to the Internet. Web hosting services abound, and you can easily make a simple contract with one of these companies to get your own online space for presenting landing pages and other aspects of your site.

    2. Acquire a domain name. The domain name is also an important part of a web project. The domain name is the name of your URL or web address, and choosing the right ones is important. Find the right web real estate to give your project visibility.
Check with nationally recognized domain name sellers. An elite group of organizations is involved with selling the rights to different domain names. Find out what is available and what will fit your business needs.

    3. Use web design tools to create basic page design. Start building your page, adding text, images and whatever else you need to make your landing page work.
Use graphic design to create a visually compelling web page. You may want to rely on graphic design professionals, or put much of your own work into the visual appeal of the landing page. Using high-contrast color graphics and text, as well as stylized fonts or borders, can help make your page more appealing and draw in more visitors.

Optimize your web content. The text that you put on your landing page matters a great deal to the success of your web project. You may want to optimize your SEO, or search engine optimization, with certain keywords, but be sure that your text is reader-friendly and sounds natural to get the best chances of success.

Build in elements according to your type of landing page. For a reference landing page, work on elegant graphics and slogans. For example, if you have a landscaping business with an existing color logo and a slogan related to your craft, try to make sure that both of these can be reproduced on the reference landing page in the same way that they are printed on a business card or other promotional materials. This will make your reference landing page a more effective way to increase your brand visibility.

    4. For a transactional landing page, make sure that you have included code modules that present a usable form or application for visitors to complete. The code modules on your functional transactional page should be pieces of computer code that allow users to do the things that you want them to do on your page. They need to be written flawlessly in order to work well.

Build in functionality to your landing page with an auto-responder. The auto-responder can send out email messages based on who visits your site. This is a way to use information compiled from your web visitors to your advantage.

Add pay per click (PPC) items or other monetizing functions. In a pay per click scenario, a web page owner places advertisements from other companies on their site. These outside or "affiliate" advertisers pay the web page owner when the ad is clicked into by a user. Some web builders can use these kinds of programs to get more money out of their web project. Take a look at PPC or other helpful elements of site design.

    Hello friends,

Just my 2 cent, if you are newbie, dont have much money to invest, cheap landing page is a good choice. But if you drive much more traffic, organic search or ppc, ppv... cheap landing page wast your money. Why?

With my experience, similar landing page or simple landing page seem not attractive to visitors and give you lower ROI. Think about 20-30% better conversion rate for a good landing page, if you make about $100 a day, the new good one can help you to make $25 buck, a month is $750. For a professional guy, he can spend $1000 a day or much more so good landing page can save much money. A regular good LP can cost some hundred to a thousand but it worth to invest

WordPress is great for making landing pages. Choose a theme that isn't going to be too distracting from the thousands available for free (or build your own one using free software like Lubith), create a page, add your content, and set WordPress to display it as a static page. Add a plug-in to optimize it for SEO (All in One SEO pack would be my choice) and another one so people can easily share it on Facebook and Twitter et. al. (shareaholic is best IMHO) and you're good to go.

If you don't want to go down that route, you can build a simple HTML site using free tools like SeaMonkey SeaMonkey: Download & Releases (not an affiliate link).

You might want to buy a landing page creator like OptimizePress 2 or something. You do need your own hosting and domain (hostgator, godaddy, bluehost, yahoo, 1&1, etc). Or simply go to fiverr or a professional landing page designer create one for you. Or use a service that Wordstream has.

As previously mentioned if you use Leadpages you don't need your own hosting or domain name if you don't want it

I have Optimizpress and Instabuilder and prefer Leadpages to both of them for ease of use with building squeeze and landing pages

    Just my 2 cents
