Choice of Free Autoresponder

I am starting out with the IM business, making a website with unique content and an opt-in form to build an email list. As I'm just starting out and learning I plan to use a free autoresponder service. I have come across the WP plugins GWA Autoresponder, Mailpoet and Listwire. They all seem decent, are any of these better than others and what are the main differences? Any advice will be much appreciated.

For me, Aweber is a paid AR. But it has one of the best AR. Free AR is good but will the mail you sent will be in the JUNK or INBOX?

I recommended for you is AWEBER. Sorry, I do not know any free AR.

Imagine if you collected 1K list, if the AR does not work as you wanted, isnt it a waste?

Thanks for the replies, they sound very wise. From my reading I am more inclined towards GetResponse than Aweber, partly as it is cheaper. Any specific reasons why it has to be Aweber and not a different paid service like GR?

Hi Paul, I'm just starting out as well and wanting to spend as little money as possible but I think that an autoresponder is one of those things that you get what you pay for.

If you are really strapped for cash then work out your blueprint and get everything else (niche selection, product selection, squeeze page etc) completed and sign up for an autoresponder as the very last thing you do.

You can get a month of Aweber for a $1 then switch to GetResponse and get another month for free.

Be warned that if you want to move an existing list to Aweber then they will insist on emailing everybody on your list to confirm opt-in. GetResponse doesn't have this limitation and thats why I would go with Aweber first.

I prefer GetResponse for ease of use but I think it down to personal preference between the two.

I agree with this brother warrior.you also have to admit i really comes down to your real needs and prefererances.rule of thumb you get what you pay for.

I took a look with getresponse before and personally I am a little confused on how to use it. Aweber is simpler and more user friendly for me as compared to getresponse. This is the reason why I vote for Aweber.

As for free autoresponders like listwire, it can work but you will not be alone in marketing to your list. The owner has the right to present some offers to your list too. I think this is true for all other Free AR but if this is fine with you, then it is okay to use. It is just that you will have a little control of your list as compared to paying premium ARs like aweber.

      Use Aweber.

It's $1 for the first month and then $19 per month.

If you can't make $19 per month you should
start reading and figure out how to make
      money.

Hint: here is how it goes
      1. get autoresponder for $1
      2. get a report to give away and build a squeeze page
      3. Start collecting subscribers
      4. Find some decent products to recommend to your
subscribers and get paid a commission for doing it.

Ah, the traffic part: Make some helpful posts here on the forums and
you should not have a problem paying for your autoresponder.
      What hpgoodboy says. Super true.

You do NOT want to skimp on your autoresponder. Free services will often tack on their own ads to *your* messages which kinda sorta defeats the whole entire purpose of you selling, aye?

I personally use aWeber AND GetResponse AND SendReach. Redundancy!

Another quick thing you can do is give yourself permission to learn how to create quick quality short reports, sell them as a WSO to get the leads, and then have your autoresponder sequence followup to continue with the sales process. Heck, when I was just starting out, I'd launch products at 97 cents just to build the my list (for the first hour that is, then bump it up).

The main thing is.... just START. Start doing *something* that as far as you can tell, should see success at the end.

      And then learn from that.

      Hope this helps!

I say go name brand. Sign up with aweber. Who can beat a dollar for the first month? And anyone can make $19 their first 30 days.

Free auto responders are almost as wise as free traffic.

SOrry but do you want another guy producing crap just to try to build a list to spam with even more crap around ? That's why this forum is full of useless offer and coming from experience warrior it's really a shame ...excuse me ,just my opinion but i would like to see a better forum if possible and stop the crap and really start to help people.....maybe i'm a dreamer but i'm not alone . But i'm sure we don't need more short report from unexpert people i guess we have enough altready from expert/gurus taking dust in the HD.....

Mail Chimp is free and easy to use. Untill you reach 2000 subscribers you can use all of its features free and send emails 12000 times.

I understand you're a Senior Warrior Member HP, but that's just not an honest statement and your post sounds more like you're trying to present yourself as an authority (instead of the truth which is that it's just your "opinion", even if a professional one at that.).
Use one of the recognised ARs (eg. aweber) otherwise you're asking for your emails to end up in the spam box.
    ~lukeblower

    From the ListWire Homepage Video:

"Is your email going to get delivered?" "Yes absolutely your email will get delivered. List wire is 100% confirmed opt-in system". ... "We're also whitelisted with as many ISP's as we can be."..."We've got it handled for you so that your email, when you send it gets where you intend."
~He really makes a big point out of the fact that they don't end up in spam boxes. As your 3 advisors above had suggested.

The Listwire Features page has a whole section about it:
    Hit The Inbox
List Wire has configured feedback loops with all of the major ISPs that support them. This includes services like MSN/Live/Hotmail, Yahoo, AOL, Comcast, Road Runner, and many more. We are a whitelisted sender where available, and automatically remove any unsubscribes, bounced and invalid email addresses, and anyone who marks your message as junk, or spam.

Our bounce management platform is extremely robust, actively monitoring more than 5,000 unique bounce codes, while scanning, and reporting on any signs that could potentially create delivery issues. We also measure the "engagement" level of your prospects, which is one of the newer ways that larger ISPs are using to determine which messages end up in the inbox, and which ones go to the spam folder.

We are a 100% double-optin system, and all messages sent through the List Wire system are authenticated using Sender ID/SPF, and DomainKeys. These authentication systems are used by services like Gmail, AOL, and Yahoo! to make sure that your email wasn't forged, and to verify on the reputation of the sender. Don't worry about changing your DNS and TXT records, or modifying your mail transfer agent though - we've taken care of all the technical stuff so that you can just click send, and be done with it.

Now of course it's not aweber, it's not some paid solution that's highly optimized for a smooth user experience. But it is effective; it is free (great for beginners who got started because they were struggling financially in the first place); and the few really bothersome things like the ListWire logo embedded in your optin forms can be removed by deleting a few lines of HTML in the form code.

It's not perfect, but for beginners I highly recommend it.

No autoresponder fits everyone's needs. Even Aweber has successful users who hate it so much that they find other AR's. Just last week I read someone's comments (perhaps here in this forum) who had decided that after using Aweber for a long time he just didn't want to pay for an AR when he didn't have to and was moving to ListWire.

So don't be afraid of getting started with "the best free AR on the web." It may be a bit more effort to figure out how to use, and it does not have ALL the bells and whistles -- but it does have everything you need.
    ------

P.S.- This is my first post on the WarriorForum and I kind of came out swinging. Have I been too offensive by challenging people's presentation of the subject matter? Are we not to call out other sales-people on their B.S.? (even if my calling out was just my perception or opinion?).

        No, it's not your ignorance.

I am not big into emailing but Mailpoet works great - unfortunately with GoDaddy you will have to use their SMTP servers. If you aren't with GoDaddy, you can configure it with Mandrill for 12,000 free emails, or Sendgrid for 400 free emails per day. Mailpoet is the best free autoresponder I have found - it's important to note that I say autoresponder - meaning you can set up a sequence of emails. NOT a newsletter. Mailchimp's free account, for example, does not include an autoresponder service.

If you are on a tight budget I recommend adding MailJeet to your toolbox. I got it when it was $13 and it has had it's ups and downs at first but is now stable and awesome. Reason: you don't have to log in and out of different email responder accounts or waste time waiting for web page loading or any of that - manage all the lists you want from the one interface. It sends through a choice of 5 different providers - I have found Mandrill to work excellently.

I need to get started with a AR, I am not using one now but awhile back I tried the aweber trial and its awesome. I did read somewhere that you should pick the service that you will stay with because its a pain in the ass to transfer lists between services and people may have to re opt in.

So even if there is a decent free one up to 2000 subscribers or something and then they start charging close to what you would be paying on aweber anyway, then you are stuck with the lesser service paying the same as you would be with aweber.

So bottom line use the $1 1st month on aweber and if it takes you 3 months to build up a decent list then it only costs you $39 and you have all your subscribers opted in on the best service and you are good to go.

The thing is with asking a question like this on here, is almost everybody is in the IM niche, and only paid auto-responders work for this niche.

So most of your answers will be aweber and getresponse.

I'm using mailchimp for my niche, it's free and its works perfectly. You can send affiliate offers directly in your emails with mailchimp as long as it's not spam. Although i generally send my list back to my site.

So it depends what niche your in. If it's IM then yes your going to need a paid service.

You just took this out of my mouth and it took me long and Dollars to find this out.

Paid Autoresponders for non-IM niches are a waste of money.

The guy looking for how to increase his member or the lady trying to clean her face of acne do not need to be written dozens of memo. And once the pimples are gone, she may not open the mail again. I found this out late.

Some members here are not the IM market and unless you are discerning you may take the wrong advice.

Marketers should understand this and newbies should know as well.

If you are not in IMK niche, use a free autoresponder.

Yeah MailPoet is nice, they finally got a multiple lists feature, but they still don't have a signup redirect. They use a javascript message instead .
I do wish more internet marketers wold develop wordpress tools, because I don't think those programmers know what to build. They know how to build, but they're always leaving critical features out of the mix!

Recently Aweber has been delivering to far less then 50% of my subscribers. Canning Aweber and going for a self hosted solution and Amazon SES.

Yeah aweber lately seems been going down.

As to the OP. Here is what I have to say. FREE is not always best. Sometimes is better to hold something off and work on something else than using a "FREE" tool witch can end up actually costing you everything.

To make money, you have to invest and do it legit. Many of this kids and their freebies, at the end you will see them opening threads about how their account has been banned, or limited, they will claim they have done nothing wrong. But when you check was using free tools.

Show me one business that is successful without 0 (zero, nada, zip, nothing) of investment or cost and I will give you Gods direct phone number.

Honestly, I am dissapointed you are looking for a free autoresponder service.i won't blame. But I want you to get something straight and that is no matter how hard you try if you don't believe you can make money online you will not.
It is obvious you are limiting your chances by looking for an anbsolutely free service.
A free service will only cause you pain and make you very unserious.
Anyway you can get started with getresponse and pay just $15 whjen ur list increase.
Be absolutely certain that you will earn once you start building your list. But you must believe that you can.

Personally, I've looked at all, and signed up with several. I think it is reasonable to say that 'Free' auto-responders are not all their cracked up to be. ListWire for instance advertises 'no ads', but they will try to get your sign-ups to join other lists in their ad network when they join your list. The big names of course are reputable, and won't show ads, but they can get expensive fast, and can have 'paid only' features pop up at inconvonient times. MailChimp for instance, only allows an autoresponder with their paid plans, and it's not readily apparent when you start their service that this is the case.

The service that I ended up using is Imnica Mail. They're a great service that starts out free, and really the only drawback is the double opt-in at the free level, which is no longer required at the $3/month (for up to 1000 subscribers) level. It's a simple platform, it's dashboard isn't as pretty as MailChimp or some of the others, and it's templates are minimal, but it's functionality exceeds the others with auto responder, filters and practically everything else available at the free level, and scales to larger list at a lower/reasonable price!

Ummm... there are other alternatives besides what is mentioned above (such as the biggies aWeber & getResponse). If you want to continuously pay a higher amount as your subscriber list grows - go ahead. However - I chose Trafficwave with a successful 14 year track record with unlimited subscribers at a low flat rate. I know there are others who switched from aWeber over to Trafficwave because of the price issue (note GR & AW obviously have a great product).

If you want free, you only have a few autoresponders to pick from like ListWire. Listwire will send you, the list owner, lots of emails but they won't touch your list.

Another option these days is to run your own email autoresponder server from WordPress. There are several free and low cost options that are very well built. It requires a bit more work in the setup, but you'll be saving quite a bit on monthly fees.

I use Getresponce because it's really good and many companies and people uses them now though there are others using Aweber or GVO but I didn't find them that good.

Mail chimp is a good one to try out if you have never use it they are truly good and I think they are getting better soon you should go have a look at it.

I use get response and Email Marketing Software - YMLP

YMLP is great if your starting out and they are stupidly cheap.

Remember, if your going for free, you'll usually get what you pay for!

If you choose an autoresponder i wouldn't just let the pricing determine my decision if i were you. The most important part is that your emails land in the inbox of your subscribers and not in the spam folder. Obviously the paid options will have a higher inbox delivery rate than the free (or cheap) options unless you want to use double optins for all your squeeze pages. (which will drastically decrease your conversions bc people are lazy)

In my opinion Listwire.com is the best free autoresponder service but
its best to try a paid one like aweber to get the most out of
      your email campaign

Has anyone heard of and/or tried 123Response? It looks like it is $24.95 per year and has "unlimited autoresponders" but not sure if that means subscribers. It also says you can have up to 52 messages on autorespond. It says they are Can Spam compliant but does anyone have experience with whether messages through them get delivered? I'm new to list-building so any help would be greatly appreciated!

123Response was super-sensitive to spam sounding emails, they interpret just about anything as spam and immediately shut down your account even before notifying you, I got the account back up and running by contacting the owner but just was not comfortable trying to communicate any type of offer even alluded to in the vaguest sense.

I've used many in the past, still use more than one (Mail Chimp, Imnica, Campaign Monitor & ARPReach at least), have a couple in the wings waiting to be tested out (I provide email systems to offline businesses, so as to what's best then it depends on what you want to do.

I use ARPReach for self-hosting but have used other self-hosted providers in the past. For me ARPReach gives the best set of features that allow me to configure funnels in a variety of flexible ways. The downside is that if you don't know what you're doing then you are reliant on their support. There are some things that can frustrate, and because some marketers don't develop with HTML formcode and only develop some plugins with the big two or three (aweber, GetResponse & MailChimp), then you have to check if you can use your service with those bits of software.

When it comes to support then no self-hosted company can really compete with paid hosting. A self-hosted provider is not getting the level of regular monthly payments like an aweber or GetResponse is. So if you want complete hands off with some of the more technical sides then choose a service like GetResponse. If you have small numbers at present and want free then go with MailChimp to take advantage of their free plan. Someone also mentioned Imnica and I use them and it's a very well priced service, but like aweber has experienced recently, in the past they've had poor deliverability issues - though I believe after changing out a lot of their server hardware that all has been good again for a while.

Another factor is whether you want to use your email system as a mini-CRM. If you do then look at systems where the email address is the primary key i.e. you can see each and every interaction that this subscriber has made. With systems such as aweber then the last time I used it this was not the case. By this to clarify that it makes more sense financially for the email company to count each subscription of an email as counting towards your email numbers. So if the same email address signs up for the weight loss E-Book, and again for the Pit Bull list then it counts twice. It leads to poorer list management and getting two or three emails to the same person. Whether this has been changed and is still the case I'm not sure. I still get 2 or 3 emails to the same address, all from aweber from some big IM names so if aweber has made it possible to prevent duel sending, then these marketers are not familiar or not bothering with performing list management.!

I am starting out like you and what i do is the following:
I started my blog, start driving taffic. At the moment i am preparing a great offer, i will give away for free for my subscribers. Once that is all in place i am going to sign up with aweber - as i agree to many warriors here.
The list is too important to not go with an reputable service. The 19$ per month should not be an issue after a few months, when starting to earn money.
But - it is your decission - choose wisley! All the best for your efforts.

im just curious, what if you send ads to 4million people and say you only have a 2% optin rate well that is 80,000 emails into your ar.so now the question is now automatically will your mthly charge with a ar company will increase?so I can see where if you do paid traffic then your list will grow very big very fast and your mthly ar charge will skyrocket right?

      Hey...
i'd say that a great deal...

      80K for $800...wow.
      that's a penny a send.

you can send a months worth of daily emails
      for 30 cents per sub...

So, how much is each sub worth per month?
some folks here say $20 each per month,
but even if it's only $1 it's still great, friggin amazing ROI

at a buck a lead per month, ...pretty good pay day, no?

But anyway...here's what I wanted to say.

Eventually, most IM'ers who make a real go of it, WILL switch to one of the big guys...
so that means you will have to re-opt your list, and you WILL loose some that way.
so take a "free" service with a grain of salt.

If you are serious, or plan on it, go with one of the big guys...best in class!
as many here have said, Aweber has a $1 trial and it's cheap to start...
if you do grow to 80K, then you' should be easily able to monetize them
      more than 30 cents each!

      Chris

I would never use a free auto responder...you get what you pay for and you can not expect to get much from a free service. Go with Get Response or Aweber.

"... you can not expect to get much from a free service." That doesn't necessarily apply universally. Many of us have a Gmail account and use Google Search daily. They're both absolutely free yet great services.

If you have paid website hosting, then you already have access to 'free' autoresponders in your control panel. Wordpress might also have a 'free' plug in for auto responder. You can Google this online to find one.

If you are serious about making money building a list then you should invest in an auto-responder service. If however you are only concerned with trying out the waters first then you should try getresponse for 30days free or aweber for just $1 for the first month.

    Cheers.

Wordpress hosted autoresponders are very limited in their options.

    Mailchimp is great (And free)

I recommend trafficwave. They offer unlimited subscribers for $17.95. It is as powerful as Aweber or getResponse. The only downside that I see is they allow only double opt-in.
They also offer a 10 level deep affiliate program, from which I am earning a decent income using my sales funnel! So, essentially, I am getting the auto-responder for free!

  • With Lst Wire you can have 100,000 subscribers for free. And they have been around a couple of years now so your list won't disappear anytime soon.

But eventually you want an auto-responder you pay for. As that is the only way to safeguard your list

One problem with Listwire is: They would show their own ads to the visitors, after they opt-in. But I am not against it, a free auto-responder with ads is fine for getting started.

Of the many email marketing solutions and autoresponders, one stands out from all the rest. More businesses and bloggers use it than any other. So if you're new to email marketing, save yourself a lot of headaches and go with AWeber and other is

I wouldn't recommend using ListWire. Mailchimp is much better and it's free to start with them. Look carefully under pricing and you can see it's free start with them and scale from there if you successfully grow your subscribers.

I tried Imnica which seemed reasonable and cheap, until I decided to test if it was working...
I managed to get just 1 test email through, the others just disappeared somewhere...
I was less than impressed so I gave up on it.

I also tried GetResponse, which I liked but given that I was just testing things out I couldn't justify the expense.

I now use a Wordpress hosted AR which as has been mentioned earlier is very limited - but it does at least work!

Just curious.....to all those who recommend Getresponse or have used it, would you say that it is an autoresponder that is easy to figure out and navigate for someone who has never done something like this before?

I have been trying to narrow down which I autoresponder I am going to use for my very first list that I want to build and have watched some vids about Getresponse, which I am leaning towards because of the price and because I like the look of most of their templates, but I am just wondering how user friendly it is for someone who has never ever done anything like this before?

I do realize that it is free to try out for the first month, but I would rather start with something that I will stick with for the long haul because I just don't want to have to go through the headache of trying to figure out how to move my list to a different autoresponder.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.....thanks!

    Hi

Personally I don`t recommend you to use free auto responder service. You may use any free tools on internet marketing business, but when it comes to email marketing it`s better to choose the right tool that can guarantee your success within your advertising campaigns

I used Getresponse for a while and it does the job perfectly without any hassle.

Stay away from free AR. If your interested in starting a business take it serious. Do yourself a favor and go with a paid service. To many head aches can come free services.
