Okay, I have to first admit that I have ZERO idea of how many new people sign up to the WF every day and therefore have zero idea of how feasible this idea really is. But what if someone's first post to the WF has to be approved by a moderator.

Okay, I have to first admit that I have ZERO idea of how many new people sign up to the WF every day and therefore have zero idea of how feasible this idea really is.
But what if someone's first post to the WF has to be approved by a moderator.
DO NOT say that has to happen when someone signs up. This way if their first post is spam you delete the spam and IP ban the jerk that posted it and the spam never even hits the forum itself.
It seems that the vast majority of spam comes from new signups with a single post to their name. I'd even be willing to help with the task of "vetting" someone's first post and I'm sure there are a lot of other long time members that would do it also.
Anyway, it's a thought.
