How Exactly Do You Take Full Advantage Of Your Email List?

New to internet marketing so bare with me please.

I have a website where I am trying to sell dog training videos for streaming. Someone told me I need to create a squeeze page to get peoples email address and that it was a huge mistake to not be doing that. I am having a page made, but here is my question:

Once I start getting peoples emails, what should I be doing exactly? Do I just send an email once a week with new content I added to my website, or new blog posts? What is the best way to monetize your list is what I am after I guess.

    Hi, there are many ways you can monetise your list. The rule of thumb is to give them value/content. In your emails you can include some personally story that includes links to your latest blog.

    I suggest you narrow down your niche, or at least segment it (i.e. are you targeting people with really bad dogs? are you targeting rich people? young? old?) this means you can speak to your audience in language they relate to.

    To make money, CPA may be a good starter point (There's a whole forum here devoted to that). Check out Donald Wilson The Blueprint on Youtube (this is actually training for Facebook fanpages but a lot of it is relevant to your business).

    You can promote relevant offers (you can a ton on sites like ClickBank) or sell any dog related products for that matter.

    Just as a rule of thumb always provide value in your emails. They don't have to be long in fact short and to the point is better) but even if the reader doesn't click the link to the recommended product at least teach them something.

    Provide value to your subscribers, bottom line. No one wants to recieve promotional material (unless thats what they signed up for) to their inbox, if subscribers begin to think you are just there to market to them they'll dump you. Leave the promotional stuff on your website, where you write reviews or provide insight into your own experience with products that you are affiliated with.

    You will hear. "Build a relationsip with your list", all over WF, so be the guy who gives readers what they want instead of just another guy who is trying to sell the next best clickbank product...

      Hi there,

      One thing you should keep in mind before sending emails to them everyday is to test would be:

      - Make a Sample test to check which subscribers react the most;
      - Arrange a A|B Split test, so you'll know which campaign forma would work best on your Database;
      - Try and engage with those subscribers with an advanced sending segmentation. Then, you'll be able to reach higher deliverability rates and enhance your %open %clicks.

    The short answer is that you should be delivering what you promised them when you enticed them to sign up. And you should start doing that as soon as they sign up.

    Too many folks here tell sad stories about how they waited until their list reached some magic number before emailing the list, only to find a stack of unsubscribes, spam complaints or being ignored.

    If you promised them some type of premium for signing up (report, video, etc.), you need to deliver on that promise first and foremost. A weekly email listing new content and why it's worthwhile spending time on is a good start.

    Here's something many marketers, especially beginners, get wrong. They believe that in order to be an authority on a subject, they need to pretty much pretend that other authorities don't exist. Hate to burst that bubble, but your name isn't the only one on your prospect's dance card.

    So make it an advantage. Don't be afraid to link to other peoples' content. Just make sure you assert your own authority by telling people why they should check it out.

    For example, you said you were promoting dog training videos. Find a YouTube video of an AKC obedience trial and share it with your subscribers, as an example of what's possible with solid training methods. The same would apply to a video of a dog act in a circus, etc.

    "Providing value" doesn't have to mean just providing endless lists of generic tips. Put yourself in the dog owner's shoes. What would you find valuable?

    Here's a hint. People love to spend money on their canine 'kids'. Monetize by helping them do just that. Training videos, paraphernalia, toys, treats, special foods, even events are all possible routes to monetization. I've never gotten into CPA stuff, but I imagine you might find a warm reception for offers related to canine medical insurance, recovery databases, and so on.

    I repeat: Put yourself in the dog owner's shoes. What would you find valuable? If you are really in tune with your market, your market will find those offers valuable as well.

    Of course, if you're only doing it because someone told you "dog training" was a hot market, or you found some golden keyword, none of this will work for you.

    Send them content covering every aspect of your topic to cover every selling point you could have. Provide continuous value via different modalities. Send plenty of different offers at different price points. Segment your list. If people buy, cater to that minority more. Don't treat all your list the same.

    I have steered away from gathering "freebie" leads. I'd much rather have a buyer. This is how i build my list. Much more valuable leads, i make more money, no crazy autoresponder costs, and a super low unsubscribe rate.... and they buy again and again.

    My Suggestion

    The whole point of being an Internet Marketer is via various ways to get subscribers.

    So i suggest, have a proper sales page where you are selling a main product (maybe it could be a video training course) have a popup or a signup bar where they can signup for maybe a PDF file of the same or related content.

    You can also have upsells and downsells or OTO's while they signup free.

    Once they are in your list you could write upto 5- 10 messages explaining them about the advantages of them buying your main product. For example specially like in the niche you are in, they like to see the videos more than reading a PDF file. so you have that advantage.

    Automate it in such a way that if they buy your main product they would be moved to another list automatically where you promote your own or other affiliate programs related to that niche.

    Maybe you could also create an Amazon store where you have related dog products for sale, their 1 click leading to any amazon product sale will get You a commission. Any good dog product would come up and you can also promote to the same list as an affiliate.

    How? By not taking full advantage! Offering valuable content and being mindful of your subscriber's needs in practical forms is the goal here. Serve first; sell only in the most beneficial of ways to all parties. I think that's a good IM motto.

    Hi, I'm not sure you're asking the right question.

    Rather than think about monetizing your list, switch your mindset and ask...

    How can I add value to my blog readers and subscribers. Money is a natural result of that!

    By monetizing your blog with relevant products and services that you recommend and ideally have used yourself, you are adding value IF that product or service helps them solve a problem.

    Share your knowledge on the topic you blog about and don't try to hard sell, just make recommendations 'casually' in your content.

    And focus on building your readership. The more readers you have, the more sales you'll make BUT never promote something just for the sake of making a quick buck.

    I have several types of lists.

    1.) List for morning/evening updates where I say, good morning, here's the latest, etc.etc.etc.

    2.) Solo promo ads where I give bonuses for those who buy thru my links.

    I'm going to start a new list for solely my products soon - that will be an adventure in itself!

    But yes, give value, give humor, give infotainment and you really can't go wrong.

    First of all you have to build a relationship with your subscribers, so that they may trust you. If you’ll start sending them offers without building this relationship, they won't even open your messages.

    Your titles must incite curiosity. Most people get numerous emails everyday. They open only the interesting ones.

    Make sure you provide content and value in all your emails, the most common ways to monetize your list is through aff offers..
    Make sure your personable, relate to your list and write emails that make you stand out form the pack..
    A good way to learn how to do this is to subscribe to the list of a couple successful marketers and pay attention to the content on their emails.

    If you're building a list, you need to be emailing that list... If you don't, then you won't make anywhere near as much money as you could be making.

    So come up with a plan for your list building and email marketing... look at 1 to 3 different traffic sources that you can test with by sending traffic to your landing/squeeze page... and collect those leads...

    Then... email them... consistently. Use email not as another avenue to drive people somewhere else such as an article or blog... but let the actual email be the blog or article... but not in a boring way... and then SELL after giving content.

    This content isn't like articles... because sometimes articles are drawn out and boring... so don't be boring with your emails... put some personality in it and get to work.

    If you ask 1,000 email marketers... They'll all say something different.

    That's because email marketing can be either an art or science.

    Are you an EPC and click-tracking, split-testing freak or someone more artful?

    Are you a raw dog seeking only sales, or do you want to build a solid relationship?

    (There are prominent and successful marketers on both sides of the spectrum).

    So which do you prefer?

    Maybe a mixture of the two?

    Email them every day.

    Ask them what their NEEDS/DESIRES or wants are.

    Then find offers that match their needs and provide them with those
    offers.

    Segment your lists based on what your subscribers best respond to.

    Then match your offers or affiliate offers to best suit those results
    that you need to be collecting as data.

    Perhaps a subtle shift in mindset is necessary. You ask how to take advantage of your list. Now, how does that sound to you?
    Let's say you sign up for someone's list. Do you want to feel like they're looking to take advantage of you? Of course not.
    Provide value, engage, and promote offers designed especially for your subscribers. Ideally products you've used yourself.

    Build a solid relationship with them by using the right way. There are many ways to treat a list wrong and makes them want to unsubscribe rather than buy from you. Of course, people will always unsubscribe but you must know how to treat your list well through providing valuable content and showing that you care.

    Send them good content for free more than you send them offers. Do whatever you can to make your subscribers really feel that you want to help them, that builds trust and make them more likely to actually buy something from you when you go for the hard sell.
