Hi Everyone,

I'm confused and dazed, no matter how much coffee I drink. These free day thing in Kindle boggles my mind. I have one non-fiction book enrolled and the price has never shown as free.

So yesterday I launched my 1st short story and looked during the upload...trying to find out how to set the five free days within the 90 day period. Nothing.

I searched the Warrior Forum and found a few threads about Kindle where other warriors jumped into the thread and asked the same question as me but unfortunately their question and mine was not answered. Even the old google search gives me anything but the answer I need. I know I am somehow missing an easy point.

Is there a simple answer or can someone point me to an article/pdf which explains this before I move onto doing some marketing.

Appreciate any help.

Regards,
James

As far as I know there used to be a bump. I mean, I do my free days 3 at the beginning but if you check out the Kindle forum here then you can get a lot better indepth instructions on how to set up your free days etc and what to do before then. I mean, it is hit or miss... but there are a lot of factors that go into whether you make money or sales: price, cover, description, etc. That's why it's good to have a sounding board(that forum or the kindle community in the dashboard on kdp site). I mean, I don't do fiction but I have about 100 nonfiction books on KDP right now... I've noticed last week my free days bumped everything up but I did about 3 days for all of my books. Hope this helps!
There really is no straight answer to this one, lol. I think a lot of our heads are boggling around!

Thanks for your reply. From what you are saying maybe I should concentrate on getting some decent sales 1st from doing my own promotions and then worry about free days later.

I know Kindle is supposed to market your book through its own sales engine but that hasn't happened to me.

I have a follow-up novella to edit and then find a good final editor to make it shine. Once that is done and up, I will be turning my attention back to non-fiction using ALL the ideas I was given through a WSO I bought awhile ago. I am really interested to see if that Warrior's full plan works...it certainly sounds like it will as I have read it over twice.

      Thanks again

Go to your account Dashboard. Then go to bookshelf. You'll see your books there. On the right you'll see a column: KDP Select. Your book needs to be enrolled. Once it is, under KDP Select you'll see: Manage Benefits. Click that link.

There's a tab in there, Kindle Countdown Deal. Click that. Directly under that heading you'll see Free Book Promotion. Click that and you can set up your free Kindle Days.

Thanks I knew I had to be missing something as simple as that. It's strange that when I google the question, I cannot find anything like that, even the Amazon FAQ didn't fully explain it.

Are you asking how to activate the 'free days'? You have to enroll in KDP select 1st and then select your days in the calender.

I spread mine out, 1 free day at a time... seems to work better than doing 2 or more days in a row - but yeah lots of factors involved, it can be hit or miss. Thursdays have been my best days overall but that may depend on niches.

Well, before you do the free days I would do the following:

1.) Get a few reviews. (I can put a review up for your book if you wanna PM me)
2.) Make sure your description is looking good and draws the reader in to want to purchase/download.
3.) Make sure your book cover is top notch.
      * For nonfiction books; 4.) Include a List building method/free gift inside your book to capture the leads. I mean, this is what I do for nonfiction kindle books.

You want to make sure you're set up to maximize on the free days.

Thanks for your help. I don't have a huge description for the short story because it would give away the story and I am using it as a lead in to the novella and hopefully follow up novella's in the series.

I think you're spot on... I think it really is a hit or miss thing. Sometimes one process will work another time something else so I think it takes tinkering with it and testing. Good advice though.

Thanks for reading the pdf and leaving me my 1st review. Going to work on getting more marketing set in motion.

Thanks for helping me out. Yes I am in the program but I didn't see any calendar or anything else to do with setting days. Now that I have some information I can go back and do it.
