I'm a newbie and have been reading heaps and totally confused but have some idea of a website with published articles with advertising on my site. I have a website through GoDaddy but their web site creator is totally confusing. Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced web site creation software? Easy to use as well. There are plenty of free ones but they want you to be a subdomain and I don't want that, but I don't mind their name at the bottom of the page.

    Hi Ben,
I recommend learning wordpress. You can make a website that does not look like a blog. You can find some good looking themes. You can sell anything you want. I recommend hosting at hostgator because their uptime is reliable and support is 24/7. Go to wordpress.org NOT wordpress.com Plan on spending a week getting to know what wordpress can do.

I've never used the website builder on Godaddy, so I can't comment or help with that.

However, it sounds like you'd like to get a blog started up. Blogs regularly updated with fresh content + people who like the content + ads for the people to click on = revenue!

I always host my sites with Hostgator, so in the Hostgator control panel, there's a thing called Fantastico which allows one-click installations of the Wordpress blogging platform. No complicated HTML required unless you want to have some wacky formatting in your posts.

A free HTML editor which you can use to create websites is Kompozer. I think you're confusing website creation software with free sites like webs.com and weebly.com which allow you to host sites on their servers. You can download Kompozer at KompoZer - Easy web authoring

I hope this is what you're looking for.

  • First thing you should do is write a business plan and figure out what you are doing. Building a website is last.

But for most people it's pretty easy to learn WordPress... if you'll just take the time to read the provided Docs. It's FREE by the way. And if you really need help with it try using YouTube to search for "How to" videos. Good luck.

I would also vote Wordpress but set up a sub domain and practice first.

Here are all the video training you need.
