SUPER niche. Is it possible?

Hello again,

I am starting out in internet marketing and decided to focus first on what I know and enjoy. Well, it just so happens that this area is a super niche. The niche is preparation for a special test that is taken in the UK to enter selective secondary schools.

Now, I know there is good money in this niche, because I used to prepare students for this test and the parents are willing to pay good money for tuition, books, mock tests, practice papers etc. However, after looking at some keywords for this niche, the total monthly searches in the UK came to about 500-600 (perhaps more for longer keywords). I would say maximum 1000.

This is super small, but could be profitable if I offer excellent value (which I can in the form of quality materials) and sell my own products and affiliate products.

My question is, with such a small search volume, is it possible to reach these people? I was thinking of using Google ads and Facebook ads. In your experience, is it really worth my time and effort to go after this, or should I focus on larger markets?

Thanks.

  • Go for it my man!

This could be a lucrative local business for you... but you never know unless you go out and test it.

So yes, start off with Google and FB and start driving traffic to your own website where you collect leads that you can market to over and over again.

And keep in mind... if these people are interested in your service, they might be interested in other related (and even non-related) offers/products/services.

So don't wait... get on it right now.

    • Understand that search volume is not necessarily a good indicator of market size, competition, nor monetization potential. For this niche, I would start with local offline advertising and offer something like a free assessment or simple aptitude evaluation.

This will provide you with immediate feedback for establishing a strategic marketing plan, attainable goals, and the optimal marketing mix to attain these goals.

It is imperative to realize marketing strategies are dynamic and interactive. You may find that as with many of the most lucrative niches, prospects seldom use online searches when making their final buying decisions.

The probability of maximizing conversions is more of a direct correlation between marketing and demographics rather than high levels of traffic.

What I have found to be quite effective is to first identify profitable demographic profiles rather than niches. It appears you have an understanding of your prospective customer base who share common characteristics.

Focusing on marketing by developing an affinity within specific groups of people who share a commonality of interests can dramatically increase conversion rates and open up a broad spectrum of other niches and opportunities for cross-sales.
  • How many keywords are we talking about here? Ten? 20? I can almost guarantee you there are keywords in this niche that you probably haven't thought about.

It also depends on what database you are using. There are also "hidden" keywords that get decent amount of traffic that never show up on some of they keyword databases.

What are you using for research?

    • The keyword planner can be misleading at times. Go for those buyer kewyords and attack your market right, you won't have a problem.

I have seen search terms that the keyword planner says they dont have any to little stats on, and I have been killer results.

Need help finding a tuition book, I need a tutor for my son/daughter.

Go that route maybe not the exact terms I listed above. What would you type into the search engine when your looking for info on your chosen niche, and go with that.

  • Fantastic replies everyone, thank you for all your input. I will get this started before the end of this week and hopefully I can return with positive news!

This is my first shot at IM so your advice is really helpful.
  • I would absolutely go for it, especially when you have some knowledge about this niche. They are many 1000 keyword niches that are profitable, but people don't pay any attention because they think money is made on big keywords.

    Good luck!

Check for related keywords and words that closely relate to your niche.
