Why edit a PDF? Why not the straight source?

Kindle takes .mobi files I believe.

I'm the author of the Ultimate Google Hangouts Marketing Roadmap (published that last August) and the process I followed was:

1.) Write book in OpenOffice (word processing).

2.) I used Kinstant Formatter to format it. I think it's $27. Definitely a worthwhile investment.

3.) Uploaded the resulting goodie to the book sites.

Unless things have changed, Kindle does not require your upload to be in PDF. Check out the Kindle site for upload options and you will be surprised to see how many options you have. OK, good luck, Edward Smith.

Kindle formatting can be a pain, and when you upload your document as a PDF or Word document, it's hard to get the formatting right unless it's a really simple book. The way that gives you most control is authoring your book in HTML/CSS and using Amazon's kindlegen to convert it to Mobipocket. That's what most people who offer Kindle formatting services do anyway. If you can't do it yourself, use a Fiverr gig. Don't know about the other platforms, but it's probably pretty much the same as with Kindle.

Yeah, just follow the steps above,
edit it first with OpenOffice, save it
then press the "convert to pdf" button.

Then follow the steps above & turn it
      to mobi or kindle ready.
